한의사 교의 사업에 대한 학부모의 만족도 조사 연구 (A Survey of Parents' Satisfaction on the Program by School Doctor of Korean Medicine)

  • Objectives The study aimed to examine satisfaction of elementary school students parents' on the program by school doctor of Korean medicine. Methods The program by school doctor of Korean medicine has been conducted in 22 schools in Seoul since June 2017. The program includes Korean medicine health care lecture for the students, the teachers, and the parents, the diet management advice, smoking/drinking cessation, and sex education. The program was varied by schools. This study investigated the parents' satisfaction of the program by school doctor of Korean medicine by a survey. Results A total of 92 elementary school parents participated in the survey, 92.4% of the respondents answered that the school doctor program showed positive effects on students' health. Most of them replied positive regarding the health education about smoking cessation (82.5%). Also, the respondents were satisfied about overall health education from the program (89.1%), and improvements of the students' learning ability through regular health checkups (59.8%). Conclusions Parents who were participated in the program by school doctor of Korean medicine positively evaluated about the program. They also shared their expectations to the role of the school doctor of Korean medicine in improving student's immune system and health counseling for the students and the school faculty.

  • Objectives: Health in adolescent is very important in the whole life. But, students in Korea are very busy and hard to care about their health. This study is aimed to effectiveness and safety of effectiveness of School Doctor program in Korean Medicine. Method: From august to december, 2015, Korean medicine association in Sungnam city conducted school doctor program for 12 middle and 8 high school. School doctor visitied 8 times and treat, lecture and consulting for students and teachers. The number of students participating in health lecture is 1,905. The number of students participating in the school project was 147 students in junior high school and 187 students in high school, totaling 334 students. Results: The overall satisfaction rate of students was very high (83.2%) for school doctor program in Korean medicine. 92.8% of respondents answered that they should continue to school doctor program in Korean medicine. Conclusions: We find that Korean medicine is suitable for the school doctor program. But this study have some limitations. Large-scale prospective study will be needed.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to investigate the adequacy and satisfaction of the school doctor program of Korean medicine (especially sex education) for elementary school students, to examine differences in parents' perception or satisfaction according to the use of Korean Medicine. Methods : The participants were parents of one elementary school that provided sex education as the Seoul school doctor program of Korean medicine. A self-reported online survey was conducted. The questionnaire consisted of parents and children's experience in using Korean medicine, perception of the school doctor program of Korean Medicine, evaluation and satisfaction of school sex education. Results : The survey was conducted on May 14th, 2022 during the school doctor program of Korean Medicine briefing session. A total of 92 parents participated in the survey, and the 88 respondents analyzed who voluntarily gave consent. Of the experience of Korean Medicine, 71 parents (80.68%) had lifetime, 16 (18.18%) respondents had within the last three months, and 40 (45.45%) said their children had. Parents' experience of using Korean medicine was related to that of their children's, but there was no difference in the satisfaction the school doctor program of Korean Medicine. Conclusions : The survey showed that parents of an elementary school where Korean Medicine doctors carried out school doctor program evaluated that the school doctor program of Korean Medicine had a positive effect on students' health. There was no difference between parents' satisfaction on school doctor program by the use of Korean medicine.

한의사 교의사업이 초등학생의 경추 자세 교정에 미치는 영향 (The effect of school doctor program on the cervical posture correction of elementary school students)

  • Objectives The main aim was to quantify forward head posture using POM Checker®, a postural balance analyzer, among elementary school students. Additionally, the study aimed to investigate whether postural imbalance improved following three sessions of the school doctor program focused on body posture correction. Methods The program was conducted as part of the school doctor program in Korean Medicine, featuring lectures by a designated Korean Medicine doctor at an elementary school. The curriculum covered the importance of maintaining correct posture and included posture correction exercises. Pre- and post-program self-reported surveys were administered, alongside postural measurements taken over three months at one-month intervals. The survey included data on gender, grade, lifestyle habits, and awareness of correct posture. Result Out of 73 participating students, 63 underwent body balance measurements from the upper grades of one elementary school. Survey results revealed significant variations in daily sitting hours and weekly exercise levels. Attendance at lectures increased knowledge about correct posture. Initial measurements of forward head posture categorized 41.0% and 1.6% of participants into caution and risk groups, respectively. After the second measurement, the caution group representation decreased to 3.2%, and by the third measurement, only 1.6% of participants remained in the caution group. Conclusions Improvements in the angle and understanding of forward head posture among elementary school students were observed before and after the Korean Medicine school doctor program. However, posture improvement may be temporary, necessitating consistent follow-up management and monitoring.

한의학 교의사업 시범시행 후 교사들의 교의만족도에 관한 연구 - 성남시 중고등학교를 대상으로 (A Study of Teacher's Satisfaction Regarding Oriental Medical Doctor's Student Health and Wellness Program)

  • Objectives This study aims to build the baseline data for school health care program by analyzing the questionnaires about satisfaction regarding Oriental Medical Doctor's (Korean Medicine) student health and wellness program. Methods The association of Korean medicine doctor in Sung-nam city conducted Oriental Medical Doctor's student health and wellness program for 12 middle schools and 8 high schools in Sung-nam from August to December, 2015. The participating Oriental Medical Doctor visited each school for 8 times during 5 months period, and conducted health consultations, health education classes and Korean medicine treatment for the school students and school employees. Teachers and administrators from the participating schools answered the self-reported satisfaction questionnaires and the satisfaction questionnaires results were analyzed. Results 85 people responded the program satisfaction questionnaires; 69% responders were very satisfied and 28% were satisfied about the program specifically about the student's health check-ups, informatory brochures for the parents, good participation enrollment process. Responders were pleased about doctor's consultations regarding 'Advising students about their general health', 'Ways to cure sick students fast', 'Providing students with useful information about health', and 'Teaching students how to manage their health in a good shape'. 92.94% of participants agreed to the needs of the school health and wellness program. Conclusions One of the fundamental national health policies is to provide students opportunities to maintain their good health. We have developed a successful pilot program called, "Oriental Medical Doctor's student health and wellness program". We got positive feedback from the participating school teachers regarding our program. Further studies based on this study are needed to show the benefit of the program to broaden its use.

  • Objectives : The study aimed to investigate the satisfaction, reasons for the progress, and the advantages of the school doctor of Korean Medicine (SDKM) program in the applied Korean Medicine doctors. Methods : The school doctor of Korean Medicine (SDKM) program has been conducted in 21 schools in Seoul since March 2018. The program was varied by school, included the introduction of Korean Medicine, sex education, and anti-smoking/drinking session. This survey was conducted as a paper-based questionnaire after the SDKM. Results : The SDKM results evaluation was better in the Korean doctors who applied for SDKM. The factors for negative progression of SDKM were 'Bad cooperation of the schools', 'Lack of personal capabilities', and 'Lack of motivation'. The factors for the positive progression of SDKM were 'Good cooperation of the schools', 'Support of Seoul Korean Medicine Association'. The question of prerequisites for activation SDKM Program included 'Active cooperation of school', 'Expand teaching materials and programs', 'Support of Seoul Korean Medicine Association'. Conclusions : In order to activate the SDKM, it is necessary to cooperate with the schools, to support of Seoul Korean Medicine Association, and to expand the education program.

한의사 교의사업이 초등학생의 한의학 인식에 미치는 영향 (The effect of school doctor program on elementary school students' perception of Korean Medicine)

  • Objectives We aimed to investigate the experience of Korean medicine use among elementary school students and their perception of Korean medicine and to determine whether the school doctor program improved the perception of Korean medicine. Methods This study was conducted as part of a school doctoral program in Korean medicine. A Korean medicine doctor was dispatched to the school to conduct a program that included career education in Korean medicine. Self-report surveys were conducted before and after the program. The pre-program questionnaire assessed the experience of using Korean medicine and the perception of Korean Medicine, whereas the post-program questionnaire measured the perception of Korean medicine and satisfaction with the program. Results A total of 82 students from an elementary school participated in this survey. Among them, 32 sudents (41.0%) reported having used Korean medicine in their lifetime, and 8 (10.4%) had used Korean medicine in the last three months. There was no statistically significant association between the experience of using Korean medicine and perception of Korean Medicine. However, perceptions significantly improved after the school doctorate program, and students who were more satisfied with the program evaluated Korean Medicine more positively.

한의사 교의 사업을 통한 소아청소년기 금연 교육의 효용성 연구 (A Study on the Effectiveness of Youth Smoking Cessation Education through the Program by School Doctor of Korean Medicine)

  • Objectives Childhood & adolescence is the most crucial period in a lifetime to learn ability to maintain one's health even though this period usually has the least death rate or illness. Smoking is the one of the most common cause of one's death and illness, but can be avoidable. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the smoking cessation education through the program by school doctor of Korean medicine. Methods In 2017, the Seoul metropolitan office of education and the Seoul Korean medicine association implemented the program by school doctor of Korean medicine including smoking cessation education for 2 elementary schools (470 students) and 3 middle schools (1,106 students). And we carried out questionnaire to 211 people (1 elementary school and 1 middle school) and analyzed the results. Results The score in regards to smoking knowledge, before and after education, was increased from 3.35 to 4.22. The score in regards to negative perceptions about smoking, before and after education, was increased from 17.62 to 18.08. Conclusions After the smoking cessation education through the program by school doctor of Korean medicine, participants were highly satisfied because their knowledge about the smoke was increased as well as negative perception of the smoke. Therefore, development and application of smoking cessation programs will be needed.

한의사 교의사업 활성화를 위한 한의사 교의 대상 설문조사 (Survey of Korean Medicine School Doctor for activation Korean medicine school doctor program)

  • Objectives : This study aimed to investigate the satisfaction of Korean medicine doctors (KMD) who conducted Korean medicine school doctor program (KMSD). We are going to use study as a foundation for activation KMSD program. Methods : Seoul Korean medicine association and Seoul metropolitan office of education conducted KMSD program for 22 schools in 2017. The program included health lessons, health counseling, and health care programs. After program finished, we carried out self-administered questionnaire survey to KMD who participated in KMSD program and we analysed it. Results : A total of 45 people answered the questionnaire, and 56% of respondents answered as 'Good progress' and 44% answered as 'Bad progress'. The reason for good progress was 'Good cooperation of School' (47.4%). 'Personalized program for participant' (23.68%), 'Support of Seoul Korean Medicine Association' (21.1%). The reason for 'Bad progress' was 'Bad cooperation of School' (37.8%), 'Lack of personal circumstances' (32.4%), 'Lack of motivation' (16.2%). The advantage of KMSD program included 'It is helpful for positive perception of the Korean medicine' and 'Korean medicine can contribute to improving public health, which is the health of schools' was 25%, 'It is helpful in expanding the services of Korean medicines to children and adolescents' was 17.6%, 'Highly satisfaction in participations' was 15.7%. The question of prerequisites for activation KMSD Program included 'Active cooperation of school' was 35.05%, 'Expand teaching materials and programs' was 20.62%, 'Support of Seoul Korean Medicine Association' was 15.46%. Conclusions : We will organize and activate programs of KMSD program and conduct program based on harmony of local community and school support, research of school health program. The program will contribute to improve student health and develop Korean health support program.

한의사 교의(校醫)가 진행한 서울소재 일개 초등학교 학생 대상 성교육 프로그램의 효과 (The Effect of Sex Education by School Doctor of Korean Medicine on Some Elementary School Students in Seoul)

  • Objectives: This study is to identify the effect of sex education by school doctor of Korean medicine on elementary school students from fourth to sixth-grade. Methods: Eighty three students who received four sex eduction lectures by school doctor of Korean medicine were assigned as experimental group while 132 students who did not receive any sex education were assigned as control group. This study observed the changes in students’ sexual knowledge and sexual attitude before, after and three months after the sex education program. Results: Experimental group showed positive changes on sexual knowledge (male p=0.000, female p=0.046) and sexual attitude (male⋅female p=0.000). Three months after the conclusion of sex education program, the follow-up evaluation showed decline in effect of education, which suggests a need for continuous sex education. As students showed high level of satisfaction, we expect school doctor of Korean medicine can improve knowledge on health and further increase familiarity in Korean medicine by this kind of sex education Conclusions: Sex education by school doctor of Korean medicine for elementary school students from fourth to sixth grade has effectively changed sexual knowledge and attitude. Further, it is necessary to research the effect of sex education on elementary students over long-term period.
