  • In this paper, a hybrid algorithm for well detecting both abrupt and gradual scene changes is proposed. This algorithm examines only the candidate intervals for speedup using the binary tree method and skips the intervals that are not candidate. For accuracy, the temporal difference of variance is used to detect the gradual scene changes while the temporal difference of histogram is used to detect the abrupt scene changes. Experimental results show that the proposed hybrid algorithm using the binary tree method works up about 10 times faster that the sequential method and is effective in detecting abrupt scene change and gradual transitions including dissolving and fading.

  • In this paper, an efficient automatic video parsing technique on MPEG-compressed video that is fundamental for content-based indexing is described. The proposed method detects scene changes, regardless of IPB picture composition. To detect abrupt changes, the difference measure based on the dc coefficient in I picture and the macroblock reference feature in P and B pictures are utilized. For gradual scene changes, we use the macroblock reference information in P and B pictures. the process of scene change detection can be efficiently handled by extracting necessary data without full decoding of MPEG sequence. The performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed based on precision and recall. the experimental results verified the effectiveness of the method for detecting scene changes of various MPEG sequences.

  • The paper presents a method to detect dissolve shots of video scene change detections in an MPEG compressed domain. The proposed algorithm uses color-R DCT coefficients of Ⅰ, P-frames for a fast operation and accurate detection and a minimum decoding process in MPEG sequences. The paper presents a method to detect dissolve shot for three-dimensional visualization and analysis of Image in order to recognize easily in computer as a human detects accurately shots of scene change. First, Color-R DCT coefficients for 8*8 units are obtained and the features are summed in a row. Second, Four-step analysis are Performed for differences of the sum in the frame sequences. The experimental results showed that the algorithm has better detection performance, such as precision and recall rate, than the existing method using an average for all DC image by performing four step analysis. The algorithm has the advantage of speed, simplicity and accuracy. In addition. it requires less amount of storage.

  • This paper proposes a tree-based hierarchical image mosaicing system using camera and object parameters for efficient video database construction. Gray level histogram difference and average intensity difference are proposed for scene change detection of input video. Camera parameter measured by utilizing least sum of square difference and affine model, and difference image is used for similarity measure of two input images. Also, dynamic objects are searched by through macro block setting and extracted by using region splitting and 4-split detection methods. Dynamic trajectory evaluation function is used for expression of dynamic objects, and blurring is performed for construction of soft and slow mosaic image.

  • There is the temporal correlation of a animation sequence between the motion vector of current block and the motion vector of previous block. In this paper, we propose the scene change detection algorithm for block matching using the temporal correlation of the animation sequence and the center-biased property of motion vectors. The proposed algorithm determines the location of a better starting point for the search of an exact motion vector using the point of the smallest SAD(sum of absolute difference) value by the predicted motion vector from the same block of the previous frame and the predictor candidate point on each search region. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better detection performance, such as recall rate, then the existing method. The algorithm has the advantage of speed, simplicity and accuracy. In addition, it requires less amount of storage.

  • In this paper, we propose detection methods for gradual scene changes such as dissolve, pan, and zoom. The proposal method to detect a dissolve region uses scene features based on spatial statistics of the image. The spatial statistics to define shot boundaries are derived from squared means within each local area. We also propose a method of the camera motion detection using four representative motion vectors in the background. Representative motion vectors are derived from macroblock motion vectors which are directly extracted from MPEG streams. To reduce the implementation time, we use DC sequences rather than fully decoded MPEG video. In addition, to detect the gradual scene change region precisely, we use all types of the MPEG frames(I, P, B frame). Simulation results show that the proposed detection methods perform better than existing methods.

  • A radiometric correction method is developed to apply multi-temporal KOMPSAT-1 EOC satellite images for the detection of land-cover changes b\ulcorner recognizing changes in reflection pattern. Radiometric correction was carried out to eliminate the atmospheric effects that could interfere with the image properly of the satellite data acquired at different multi-times. Four invariant features of water, sand, paved road, and roofs of building are selected and a linear regression relationship among the control set images is used as a correction scheme. It is found that the utilization of panchromatic multi-temporal imagery requires the radiometric scene standardization process to correct radiometric errors that include atmospheric effects and digital image processing errors. Land-cover with specific change pattern such as paddy field is extracted by seasonal change recognition process.

  • In this paper, we propose novel scene change detection and key frame selection techniques, which use two feature images, i.e., DC and edge images, extracted directly from MPEG compressed video. For fast edge image extraction. we suggest to utilize 5 lower AC coefficients of each DCT. Based on this scheme, we present another edge image extraction technique using AC prediction. Although the former is superior to the latter in terms of visual quality, both methods all can extract important edge features well. Simulation results indicate that scene changes such as cut. fades, and dissolves can be correctly detected by using the edge energy diagram obtained from edge images and histograms from DC images. In addition. we find that our edge images are comparable to those obtained in the spatial domain while keeping much lower computational cost. And based on HVS, a key frame of each scene can also be selected. In comparison with an existing method using optical flow. our scheme can select semantic key frames because we only use the above edge and DC images.

  • This paper proposes a robust scene change detection technique that uses the weighted chi-square test and the automated threshold-decision algorithms. The weighted chi-square test can subdivide the difference values of individual color channels by calculating the color intensities according to NTSC standard, and it can detect the scene change by joining the weighted color intensities to the predefined chi-square test which emphasize the comparative color difference values. The automated threshold-decision at algorithm uses the difference values of frame-to-frame that was obtained by the weighted chi-square test. At first, The Average of total difference values is calculated and then, another average value is calculated using the previous average value from the difference values, finally the most appropriate mid-average value is searched and considered the threshold value. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithms are effective and outperform the previous approaches.
