  • The single image dehazing algorithm in existence can satisfy the demand only for improving either the effectiveness or efficiency. In order to solve the problem, a novel variational framework for single image dehazing based on restoration is proposed. Firstly, the initial atmospheric scattering model is transformed to meet the kimmel's Retinex variational model. Then, the green light component of image is considered as an input of the variational framework, which is generated by the sensitivity of green wavelength. Finally, the atmospheric transmission map is achieved by multi-resolution pyramid reduction to improve the visual effect of the results. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can remove haze effectively with less memory consumption.

  • Noise barriers are widely used to reduce the sound level propagating from highways, railways or factories to residential areas. The reduced noise level at a receiver point is then determined by the diffracted waves around the edge of the barrier as well as by the transmitted waves through the barrier. 1'or proper usage, many studies either theoretical or experimental have been made with the objective of precisely Predicting the acoustic field and improving the noise attenuating properties of barriers. In this study. a simple scattering model. a line acoustic source scattered by an infinite cylinder, is introduced to simply Investigate the sound attenuation efficiency of a sound-resonating barrier. From this model study, it is observed that the sound-resonating harrier can be used as a good sound-shielding element especially for the pure-tone noise generated from the transformer. Large sound-attenuation is achieved by applying the sound-resonating barrier to the large transformers in a substation.

  • Photocatalytic degradation using $TiO_2$ Particles suspended in a reactor was experimentally performed to degrade the formaldehyde of indoor pollutants. Exponential increase of degradation appears to prove light availability due to the scattering of W light by particles themselves. Comparative removal studies of formaldehyde were done in both cases of dipping and spraying immobilized techniques of $TiO_2$ Particles suspended in solution. Experiments were performed under several different experimental conditions such as initial concentration of formaldehyde, UV intensity and concentration of photocatalysts. Optimal conditions to degrade formaldehyde were obtained under the conditions of $30\;mg/cm^2$ concentration of catalyst and UV intensity of 30 Watt at the distance of 30 cm using immobilized technique by dipping coating.

  • The synthesis of a series of poly(POSS-NBE-b-MTD) copolymers was successfully accomplished, taking advantage of sequential, ring-opening, metathesis block copolymerization using $RuCl_2(=CHPh)(PCy_3)_2$ catalyst. By using cyclopentyl-POSS-norbornene (POSS-NBE) monomer as the first block in the block copolymer, living poly(POSS-NBE) with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution was produced. Then, poly(POSS-NBE-b-MTD) copolymers were successfully prepared, in which sequential monomer addition of methyltetracyclododecene (MTD) to the living poly(POSS-NBE) chain ends was utilized to achieve quantitative crossover efficiency. Characterization by $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy and GPC confirmed the high definition and structural integrity of the poly(PO$S-NBE-b-MTD) copolymers. Thermal properties-and morphologies of the POSS-containing block copolymer nanocomposites were also investigated by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS).

  • In this paper, we present the possibility of quantification analysis for $A{\beta}$ captured by micro beads using Near-filed detection. In order to evaluate detection efficiency, detected signals were compared with different sizes of micro beads and a varied number of micro beads. Also, $A{\beta}$ deposits and $A{\beta}$ binding to micro beads were measured, therefore, we observed the $A{\beta}$ deposit and light scattering around the surface of micro beads induced by attached $A{\beta}$. This method can be used for quantitative analysis for not only the number of $A{\beta}$, but also the binding ratio of $A{\beta}$ to micro beads.

  • The spray characteristics of GDI(Gasoline Direct Injection) injector affects on engine efficiency and emission of a GDI engine. Thus, many researchers have investigated the spray characteristics and the mixture formation of GDI injector. In this study, it was tried to provide the fundamental data for GDl injector design which effects on the spray macroscopic characteristics such as penetration and spray angle. In addition, the mixture formation analyzed by using entropy analysis. The entropy analysis is based on the concept of statistical entropy, and it identifies the degree of homogeneity in the fuel concentration. The results show that as injection pressure increases but as ambient pressure increases, spray penetration decreases and spray angle doesn't affected by increasing injection pressure and ambient temperature. From the entropy analysis results, we could find that the direct diffusion phenomena is a dominant factor in the formation of a homogeneous mixture at downstream of GDI spray especially in vaporizing conditions.

  • We have demonstrated a highly efficient cladding-pumped ytterbium-doped fiber laser, generating $>$2.1 kW of continuous-wave output power at 1.1 μm with 74% slope efficiency with respect to launched pump power. The beam quality factor ($M^2$) was better than 1.2. The maximum output power was only limited by available pump power, showing no evidence of roll-over even at the highest output power. We present data on how the beam quality depends on the fiber parameter, based on our current and past fiber laser developments. We also discuss the ultimate power-capability of our fiber in terms of thermal management, Raman nonlinear scattering, and material damage, and estimate it to 10 kW.

  • In this paper, spherical Luneburg lens antennas have been systematically analyzed using the Eigenfunction Expansion Method (EEM), The developed technique has capability of performing a complete 3-D analysis to characterize the multi-layered dielectric spherical lens with arbitrary permittivity and permeability. This paper describes the analysis technique, and presents the results of the parametric study of Luneburg lens antennas by varying design parameters suoh as the diameter of the lens antenna (up to 80 wavelength), number of spherical shells (up to 30 shells), air-gaps between spherical shells, and dielectric loss of the material. Many representative engineering design curves including the far-field patterns, wide-angle sidelobe characterizations, antenna efficiency have been presented.

  • Three-dimensional simulator for the ion implantation process is developed. The simulator based on an analytical model which would be a choice with high computational efficiency and accuracy. This is an important issue for the simulation of a numerous number of processing steps required in the fabrication of ULSI or GSI. The model can explain scattering and bulk channeling mechanism (1D). It can also explain depth dependent lateral diffusion effect(2D) and mask effect(3D). The model is consist of one-dimensional JPD(Joined Pearson Distribution) function and two-dimensional modified Gaussian functions. Final implanted profiles under typical mask structures such as hole, line and island structure are obtained with varying ion species.

  • Medium Energy Ion Scattering (MEIS) has been successfully used for ultrathin film analysis such as gate oxides and multilayers due to its single atomic depth resolution in compostional and structural depth profiling. Recently, we developed a time-of-flight (TOF) MEIS for the first time, which can analyze a $10{\mu}m$ small spot. Small spot analysis would be useful for test pattern analysis in semiconductor industry and various thin film technology. The ion beam damage problem is minimized due to its improved collection efficiency by orders of magnitude and the ion beam neutralization problem is removed completely for quantitative analysis. Newly developed TOF-MEIS has been applied for gate oxides, ultra shallow junctions, nanoparticles, FINFET structures to provide compositional and structural profiles. Further development for submicron spot analysis and applications for functional nano thin films and nanostructured materials are expected for various nanotechnology and biotehnology.
