Ultra-wideband antennas are desired for several applications including satellite communications, radars, remote sensing system, telescopes, and microwave imaging systems. There are many types of wideband antenna structures, but the tapered slot Vivaldi antenna is advantageous in terms of cost, weight, scan angle capabilities, end-fire radiation, and ease of feeding and system integration. In this paper, a modified antipodal Vivaldi antenna is presented. A novel AVA with H-shaped parasitic patches has the capacity to improve the radiation characteristics in the whole operation frequencies. A prototype of the modified antenna with RT/duroid 5880 substrate of a relative dielectric constant (${\epsilon}_r$) of 2.2, and a thickness of 31mil is fabricated and experimentally studied as well. It measures a ${\mid}S_{11}{\mid}$ of less than -10dB and gain of 9-12dBi over 7.8-52.5GHz which shows reasonable agreement with the simulated one.
This paper describes the design and fabrication of a high power amplifier which is a component of TDL(Tactical Data Link) aircraft terminal. We applied high-speed frequency hopping technology, cognitive radio technology, and receive filter bank technology to efficiently use limited frequency resources with radar and other communication equipment using the same frequency band. The high-power amplifier is physically composed of a transmitter, a receiver, a mechanical part, and a cable assembly, and is designed to meet temperature characteristics and electrical characteristics such as maximum transmission distance and reception sensitivity. Modeling and simulator were used to satisfy the requirement of high power amplifier. The transmit power and the noise figure were measured at 50.02dBm and 2.682dB, respectively. It was confirmed that all the required specifications were satisfied in the electrical characteristics test and the environmental characteristic test.

In this paper, we investigate the design of three low-complexity joint estimation algorithms(LJEAs) for frequency offset and carrier phase. The proposed LJEAs are based on the interpolation technique of correlation values of the received signal in frequency and phase domains. With these algorithms, the estimation ranges $\Delta$f$_{d}$${\times}$T$_{s}$ . are less than 1/2N$_{s}$ , and 1/N$_{s}$ which are comparable to conventional algorithms. The Proposed LJEAs require only 2N$_{s}$ or 4N$_{s}$ complex multiplications which are very simple compared with the conventional algorithms. Nevertheless the estimation accuracies of the LJEAs are as good as those of the conventional algorithms. Suitable areas of application include joint estimation of frequency offset and carrier phase in burst-mode digital transmission such as satellite communications.
It is a mistaken impression that the midlatitude ionosphere was a very stable region with well-known morphology and physical mechanism. However, the large disturbances of midlatitude ionospheric contents in response to global thermospheric changes during geomagnetic storms are reported in recent studies using global GPS TEC map and space-born thermospheric UV images, and its importance get higher with the increasing application areas of space navigation systems and radio communication which are mostly used in the midlatitudes. Positive and negative storm phases are used to describe increase and decrease of ionospheric electron density. Negative storms result generally from the enhanced loss rate of electron density according to the neutral composition changes which are initiated by Joule heating in high-latitudes during geomagnetic storms. In contrast, positive ionospheric storms have not been well understood because of rare measurements to explain the mechanisms. The large enhancements of ground-based GPS TEC in Korea were observed on 8 and 10 November 2004. The positive ionospheric storm was continued except for dawn on 8 November, and its maximum value is ~65 TECU of ~3 times compared with the monthly mean TEC values. The other positive phase on 10 November begin to occur in day sector and lasted for more than 6 hours. The O/N2 ratios from GUVI/TIMED satellite show ~1.2 in northern hemisphere and ~0.3 in southern hemisphere of the northeast Asian sector on 8 and 10 November. We suggest the asymmetric features of O/N2 ratios in the Northeast Asian sector may play an important role in the measured GPS TEC enhancements in Korea because global thermospheric wind circulation can globally change the chemical composition during geomagnetic storms.

In this paper, we present a microstrip-to-substrate integrated waveguide(SIW) transition and microstrip-to-hollow SIW(HSIW) transition for Ku-band satellite communication systems. For the complete utilization of the HSIW, a structure filled with air instead of a dielectric material, a microstrip-to-HSIW transition is designed, fabricated, and compared with a microstrip-to-SIW transition. A back-to-back microstrip-to-SIW transition is measured in the range 12~18 GHz; it exhibits a return loss ${\geq}20dB$ and an insertion loss of $1.5{\pm}0.2dB$. In contrast, a back-to-back microstrip-to-HSIW transition exhibits a return loss of at least 15 dB and an insertion loss of $0.55{\pm}0.2dB$ in the same frequency range.

Modern information technologies continue to provide industries with new and improved methods. With the rapid development of Machine to Machine (M2M) communication, a smart container supply chain management is formed based on high performance sensors, computer vision, Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites, and Globle System for Mobile (GSM) communication. Existing supply chain management has limitation to real time container tracking. This paper focuses on the studies and implementation of real time container chain management with the development of the container identification system and automatic alert system for interrupts and for normal periodical alerts. The concept and methods of smart container modeling are introduced together with the structure explained prior to the implementation of smart container tracking alert system. Firstly, the paper introduces the container code identification and recognition algorithm implemented in visual studio 2010 with Opencv (computer vision library) and Tesseract (OCR engine) for real time operation. Secondly it discusses the current automatic alert system provided for real time container tracking and the limitations of those systems. Finally the paper summarizes the challenges and the possibilities for the future work for real time container tracking solutions with the ubiquitous mobile and satellite network together with the high performance sensors and computer vision. All of those components combine to provide an excellent delivery of supply chain management with outstanding operation and security.

Recently, the radio navigation method utilizing the GPS(Global Positioning System) satellite information is widely used as the method to measure the position of objects. As GPS applications become wider and fields based on various positioning information emerge, new methods for achieving higher accuracy are required. In the case of autonomous vehicles, the INS(Inertial Navigation System) using the IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit), and the DR(Dead Reckoning) algorithm using the in-vehicle sensor, are used for the purpose of preventing degradation of accuracy of the GPS and to measure the position in the shadow area. However, these positioning methods have many elements of problems due not only to the existence of various shaded areas such as building areas that are continually enlarged, tunnels, underground parking lots and but also to the limitations of accumulation-based location estimation methods that increase in error over time. In this paper, an efficient positioning method in a large underground parking space using Fingerprint method is proposed by placing the AP(Access Points) and directional antennas in the form of four anchors using WLAN, a popular means of wireless communication, for positioning the vehicle in the GPS shadow area. The proposed method is proved to be able to produce unchanged positioning results even in an environment where parked vehicles are moved as time passes.

This paper presents an integrated packaging antenna-diplexer module for wireless communication systems in the Cellular and SDMB band. The design and the realization of the proposed one are experimentally analyzed and discussed. It consists of a dual-resonance antenna and a diplexer with a multi-layer LTCC(${\varepsilon}_r=7.8,\;tan\;{\delta}=0.0043$) technology with integration capability and low loss. The dual-resonance antenna of the proposed module has the meander line structure for size reduction and has the shorting structure of an inverted F antenna to achieve good impedance matching. The diplexer of the proposed module was designed with the combination of low pass filter(LPF) and high pass filter(HPF). Decreasing the mutual interference between them provides a high isolation characteristic. The proposed antenna-diplexer module with dimensions of $27.5{\times}12.0{\times}2.2mm$ operates within a range from 813 MHz to 902 MHz for the cellular band and from 2,586 MHz to 2,655 MHz for the SDMB band. And the measured gain of the fabricated module is -1.96 dBi for Cellular band and -5.43 dBi for SDMB band. The parameters for the antenna-diplexer module are investigated and the several performances are discussed.

The traditional broadcasting services over terrestrial, satellite and cable media have been unidirectional mass media regardless of TV viewer's preferences. Recently ich media streaming has become possible via the broadb and networks. Furthermore, since bidirectional communication is possible, personalcasting such as personalized streaming services has been emerging by taking into account the user's preference on content genres, viewing times and actors/actresses etc. Accordingly, personal media becomes an important means for content provision service in addition to the traditional broadcasting service as mass media. In this paper, we introduce a user profile reasoning method for target advertisement which is considered an important application in personalcasting service. The proposed user profile reasoning method predicts an unknown TV viewer's gender and ages by analyzing TV Viewing history data. Based on the estimated user's gender and ages, a target advertisement is provided with TV Anytime metadata. A proposed target advertisement system is developed based on the user profile reasoning and the target advertisement selection method. To show the effectiveness of our proposed methods, we present a plenty of experimental results by using realistic TV viewing history data.
Joining the WTO in 2001, China became a number of the global economic system. China succeeded in vying to host Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and World Expo 2010 Shanghai. It is China's honor and opportunity to have high economic growth in the coming future. In 2007, the total cost of public logistics decreased by 18.2% than 2006 to 4540.6 billion RMB, accounting for 18.4% of the GDP. So, China logistics is a huge industry and a growing market full of charm. The statistic ratios of China's logistics and growth trends show us it is an important issue to build and run an effective logistics system. However, research on China's logistics systems and supply chain is lacked. This study is focus on the logistic location strategy in China including the study of factories and warehouses geographic strategy concerned with SCM. The core of this study is to propose a New Multi-Facilities Location Decision Model. This study banded the revised gravity center, the standard single facility location decision model(Gravity Center Model) and the transportation model into a new Multi-Facilities Location Decision Model. In addition, this study suggested the gravity center of population, the gravity center of each industry, the location decision graded-list of each industry of china using the gravity center model and the revised gravity center model. The new Multi-Facilities Location Decision Model proposed in this study can be used to solve the location decision problem of more than two facilities. And it can be used in the fields such as the location decision of production facility and service facility, the location of distribution and logistics, the location of broadcast and satellite communications, the location of wireless communication tower and so on.
