With advancements in satellite technology, interest in target detection and identification is increasing quantitatively and qualitatively. Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) images, which can be acquired regardless of weather conditions, have been applied to various areas combined with machine learning based detection algorithms. However, conventional studies primarily focused on the detection of stationary targets. In this study, we proposed a method to identify moving targets using an algorithm that integrates sub-aperture SAR images and cosine similarity calculations. Utilizing a transformer-based deep learning target detection model, we extracted the bounding box of each target, designated the area as a region of interest (ROI), estimated the similarity between sub-aperture SAR images, and determined movement based on a predefined similarity threshold. Through the proposed algorithm, the quantitative evaluation of target identification capability enhanced its accuracy compared to when training with the targets with two different classes. It signified the effectiveness of our approach in maintaining accuracy while reliably discerning whether a target is in motion.

Recently as large sized urban development and the city ward drifting of population are caused, the urban surface temperature is raised very seriously and rapidly. These artificial developments have destroyed the inner and outer landscapes such as topography and have changed complex local climate such as a sudden rise in temperature, the change of wind field and air pollution. In order to clarify this problem visually, the studies on extracting the thermal infrared and the characteristic analysis of local climate in urban area had been performed by using the sixth band of Landsat TM and ETM+. However, there is a need to alternate Landsat TM and ETM+ because these satellite images are not applied any more. Therefore, in this paper it is proposed to use 2 Aster image (2004.4.17 daily 2b03, 2004.10.10 night 2b03) of EOS AM and to extract the surface temperature. Also, the pattern of surface temperature in urban area and the application possibility in local climate study are proposed by verifying the correlation with A WS data. Also, IKONOS image was used to figure out the artificial development area in visual.
Estimation of snow depth using optical image is conducted by using correlation with Snow Cover Fraction (SCF). Various algorithms have been proposed for the estimation of snow cover fraction based on Normalized Difference Snow Index (NDSI). In this study we tested linear, quadratic, and exponential equations for the generation of snow cover fraction maps using data from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Aqua satellite in order to evaluate their applicability to the complex terrain of South Korea and to search for improvements to the estimation of snow depth on this landscape. The results were validated by comparison with in-situ snowfall data from weather stations, with Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) calculated as 3.43, 2.37, and 3.99 cm for the linear, quadratic, and exponential approaches, respectively. Although quadratic results showed the best RMSE, this was due to the limitations of the data used in the study; there are few number of in-situ data recorded on the station at the time of image acquisition and even the data is mostly recorded on low snowfall. So, we conclude that linear-based algorithms are better suited for use in South Korea. However, in the case of using the linear equation, the SCF with a negative value can be calculated, so it should be corrected. Since the coefficients of the equation are not optimized for this area, further regression analysis is needed. In addition, if more variables such as Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), land cover, etc. are considered, it could be possible that estimation of national-scale snow depth with higher accuracy.
Transverse velocity vectors can be determined from a pair of images successively taken with a time interval using an optical flow technique. We have tested the performance of the new technique called NAVE (non-linear affine velocity estimator) recently implemented by Chae & Sakurai using real image data taken by the Narrowband Filter Imager (NFI) of the Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) aboard the Hinode satellite. We have developed two methods of estimating the errors in the determination of velocity vectors, one resulting from the non-linear fitting ${\sigma}_{\upsilon}$ and the other ${\epsilon}_u$ resulting from the statistics of the determined velocity vectors. The real error is expected to be somewhere between ${\sigma}_{\upsilon}$ and ${\epsilon}_u$. We have investigated the dependence of the determined velocity vectors and their errors on the different parameters such as the critical speed for the subsonic filtering, the width of the localizing window, the time interval between two successive images, and the signal-to-noise ratio of the feature. With the choice of $v_{crit}$ = 2 pixel/step for the subsonic filtering, and the window FWHM of 16 pixels, and the time interval of one step (2 minutes), we find that the errors of velocity vectors determined using the NAVE range from around 0.04 pixel/step in high signal-to-noise ratio features (S/N $\sim$ 10), to 0.1 pixel/step in low signa-to-noise ratio features (S/N $\sim$ 3) with the mean of about 0.06 pixel/step where 1 pixel/step corresponds roughly to 1 km/s in our case.
Forest fire is a critical disaster that causes massive destruction of forest ecosystem and economic loss. Hence, accurate estimation of the burned area is important for evaluation of the degree of damage and for preparing baseline data for recovery. Since most of the area size damaged by wildfires in Korea is less than 1 ha, it is necessary to use satellite or drone images with a resolution of less than 10m for detecting the damage area. This paper aims to detect wildfire-damaged area from a Kompsat-3 image using the indices such as NDVI (normalized difference vegetation index) and FBI (fire burn index) and to examine the classification characteristics according to the methods such as Otsu thresholding and ISODATA(iterative self-organizing data analysis technique). To mitigate the salt-and-pepper phenomenon of the pixel-based classification, a gaussian filter was applied to the images of NDVI and FBI. Otsu thresholding and ISODATA could distinguish the burned forest from normal forest appropriately, and the salt-and-pepper phenomenon at the boundaries of burned forest was reduced by the gaussian filter. The result from ISODATA with gaussian filter using NDVI was closest to the official record of damage area (56.9 ha) published by the Korea Forest Service. Unlike Otsu thresholding for binary classification, since the ISODATA categorizes the images into multiple classes such as(1)severely burned area, (2) moderately burned area, (3) mixture of burned and unburned areas, and (4) unburned area, the characteristics of the boundaries consisting of burned and normal forests can be better expressed. It is expected that our approach can be utilized for the high-resolution images obtained from other satellites and drones.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of urban heat island considering urban space at nighttime. We used to analyze landuse and landcover data of 1:1,000 scale, DTM, and surface temperature extracted ASTER image satellite of nighttime. According to the analytical results, heat intensity in single-family residential is higher than that in industrial area, public facility area, and commercial area because the anthropogenic heat by energy consumption is released. Likewise, the temperature difference were big in the buildings of industrial area depending on operating hours. Meanwhile, green and river area had cooling impacts mitigating the urban heat island. Therefore, we have to mitigate heat intensity through constructing green space and waterfront area. As mentioned above, we think that the results of this study will be used as base data for effective spatial planning when formulating development planning to mitigate urban heat island at nighttime.
A two-axis gimbal-type X-band antenna is widely used to transmit bulk image data from high-resolution observation satellites. However, undesirable microvibrations induced by driving the antenna should be attenuated, because they are a main cause of image-quality degradation of the observation satellite. In this study, a pseudoelastic memory alloy (SMA) gear was proposed to attenuate the microvibrations by driving the antenna in an azimuth angle. In addition, the proposed gear can overcome the limitations of the conventional titanium blade gear, which is not still enough and is vulnerable to plastic deformations under excessive torque. To investigate the basic characteristics of the proposed SMA mesh washer gear, a static load test was performed on the thickness of the SMA mesh washer and the rotation of the gear. Moreover, The microvibration measurement test demonstrated that the SMA mesh washer gear proposed in this study is effective for microvibration attenuation.

The diversity, expansion of human activity and rapid urbanization make modem society to faced with problems like damage of nature and drain of natural resources. Under these circumstances rapid and accurate change detection techniques, which can detect wide range utilization changes, are needed for efficient management and utilization plan of national territory. In this study to perform change detection from remote sensing images, space analysis technique contained in Geographic Information System is applied. And from this technique, the software. that can execute new change detection algorithm, query, inquiry and analysis, is produced. This software is on the basis of graphic user interface and has many functions such as format conversion, grid calculation, statistical processing, display and reference. In this study, simultaneously change detection for multi-temporal satellite images can be performed and integrated one change image about four different periods was produced. Further more software user can acquire land cover change information for an specific area through querying and questioning about yearly changes. Finally making of every application module for change detection into one window based visual basic program, can be produced user convenience and automatic performances.
Tidal channel development is influenced by sediment type, grain size, composition and tidal current. Tidal channels are usually characterized by channel formation, density and shape. Quantitative analysis of tidal channels using remotely sensed data have rarely been studied. The objective of this study is to quantify tidal channels in terms of fractal dimension and compare different inter-tidal channel patterns and compare with DEM (Digital Elevation Model). For the fractal analysis, we used box counting method which had been successfully applied to streams, coastlines and others linear features. For a study, the southern part of Ganghwado tidal flats was selected which know for high dynamics of tidal currents and vast tidal flats. This area has different widths and lengths of tidal channels. IKONOS was used for extracting tidal channels, and the box counting method was applied to obtain fractal dimensions (D) for each tidal channel. Yeochari area where channels showed less dense development and low DEM had low fractal dimenwion near $1.00{\sim}1.20$. Area (near Donggumdo and Yeongjongdo) of dendritic channel pattern and high DEM resulted in high fractal dimension near $1.20{\sim}1.35$. The difference of fractal dimensions according to channel development in tidal flats is relatively large enough to use as an index for tidal channel classification. Therefore we could conclude that fractal dimension, channel development and DEM in tidal channel has high correlation. Using fractal dimension, channel development and DEM, it would be possible to quantify the tidal channel development in association with surface characteristics.
Urbanization due to population growth and regional development can cause various environmental problems, such as the urban heat island phenomenon. A planned city is considered an appropriate study site to analyze changes in urban climate caused by rapid urbanization in a short-term period. In this study, changes in land cover and surface heat island phenomenon were analyzed according to the development plan in Sejong City from 2013 to 2020 using Landsat-8 Operational Land Imager/Thermal Infrared Sensor (OLI/TIRS) satellite imagery. The surface temperature was calculated in consideration of the thermal infrared band value provided by the satellite image and the emissivity, and based on this the surface heat island effect intensity and Urban Thermal Field Variance Index (UTFVI) change analysis were performed. The level-2 land cover map provided by the Ministry of Environment was used to confirm the change in land cover as the development progressed and the difference in the surface heat island intensity by each land cover. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the urbanized area increased by 15% and the vegetation decreased by more than 28%. Expansion and intensification of the heat island phenomenon due to urban development were observed, and it was confirmed that the ecological level of the area where the heat island phenomenon occurred was very low. Therefore, It can suggest the need for a policy to improve the residential environment according to the quantitative change of the thermal environment due to rapid urbanization.
