  • Objectives : This study was performed to compare the effect of two Cudrania tricuspidata cultivars; Sancheong native (CT) and varieties in china(SCT) on immediate hypersensitivity of the anaphylactic type and Ova-induced allergic asthma mouse model by calculating serum cytokines and IgE. Methods : We investigated the free radical scavanging effect and quantify total phenol contents and total flavonoids of two Cudrania tricuspidata cultivars; Sancheong native(CT) and varieties in china(SCT). The sample was extracted by 80% EtOH. To induce the allergic asthma, in the control group and the CT group, mice of each group were sensitized intraperitoneally with ovalbumin (OVA) solution at the 1st, the 7th and the 14th day. After then, sensitization was performed by aerosol allergen challenges with 1% OVA solution intratracheally at the 21th, the 23th, 25th and the 27th day. At the 29th day, the mice were killed and the changes of interferon-${\gamma}$, interleukin-4, 5 and 10, total IgE and OVA-specific IgE in serum were checked. Results : CT inhibited compound 48/80-induced systemic anaphylaxis 90% with a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight at 1 hr before injection of compound 48/80. In the allergic asthma mouse model, IFN-${\gamma}$ was did not increased in the CT and SCT group than that in the control group. IL-4, IL-5, the total IgE and OVA-specific IgE were decreased in the CT group as compared with the control group and these results were statistically significant. Conclusions : Considering the above experimental results, this study showed that Sancheong native cultivar could reduce the allergic reaction.

  • The Hadong-Sancheong Proterozoic anorthosite complex occurs in the southwestern region of the Ryongnam massif. The geology of the area mainly consists of metamorphic rocks of the Jirisan metamorphic complex as basement rocks, charnockite, and the Hadong-Sancheong anorthosite, which are intruded by the Mesozoic igneous rocks. Hadong-Sancheong anorthosite complex is divided into the Sancheong anorthosite and the Hadong anorthosite which occur at north-southern and south area of the Jurassic syenite, respectively. The Hadong Fe-Ti-bearing dike-like ore bodies developed intermittently in the Hadong anorthosite with north-south direction and extend about 14 km. The Hadong Fe-Ti-bearing ore bodies consist mainly of magnetite and ilmenite with rutile, titanite, and minor amounts of sulfides(pyrrhotite, pyrite, chalcopyrite and sphalerite). The Hadong Fe-Ti-bearing ore bodies show a paragenetic sequence of magnetite-ilmenite ${\rightarrow}$ magnetite-ilmenite-pyrrhotite ${\rightarrow}$ ilmenite-pyrrhotite-rutile-titanite(and/or pyrite) ${\rightarrow}$ sulfides. Equilibrium thermodynamic interpretation of the mineral paragenesis and assemblages indicate that early Fe-Ti-bearing ore mineralization in the ore bodies occurs at about $700^{\circ}C$ which corresponds to oxygen fugacity of about $10^{-11.8}{\sim}10^{-17.2}$ atm with the decrease tendency of sulfur fugacity to about $10^0$ atm as equilibrium of $Fe_3O_4-FeS$. The change of ore mineral assemblages from Fe-Ti-bearing minerals to sulfides in late ore mineralization of the ore bodies indicates that oxygen fugacity would have slightly decreased to ${\geq}10^{-20.2}$ atm and increased sulfur fugacity to ${\geq}10^0$ atm.

  • The anorthositic rocks of the study area are divided into the northern Sancheong and southern Hadong anorthositic rocks depending on the different distribution patterns and lithologies. In order to evaluate the characteristics of the hydrothermal systems developed in the study area, oxygen and hydrogen isotopic compositions of the anorthositic rocks were measured. Oxygen isotopic values of the plagioclase exhibit an interesting spatial distribution. Plagioclase collected from the Sancheong anorthositic rocks in the northern part tends to have a relatively restricted range of $\delta$$^{18/0}$ values between 7.3 and 8.8$\textperthousand$, which are heavier than 'normal' $\delta$$^{18/O}$ value (6-6.5$\textperthousand$) typical for plagioclase of the fresh mantle-derived anorthosite, whereas plagioclase from the southern part is characterized by a wide range of $\delta$$^{18/O}$ values between -4.4 and 8.2$\textperthousand$ and much lighter values than 'normal' value for plagioclase of the fresh mantle-derived anorthosite. Plagioclase from the middle part has $\delta$$^{18/O}$ values heavier than the plagioclase from the southern part, but lighter than that from the northern part. The spatial distribution of $\delta$$^{18/O}$ values suggests that the decoupled hydrothermal flow systems might have been developed in the study area. Meteoric water dominated in the hydrothermal flow systems developed in the southern area, whereas magmatic fluid dominated in the northern area. The relationship between water content and hydrogen isotopic composition of anorthosites shows a positive correlation. The positive correlation indicates that fluids exsolved from magma during magmatic differentiation caused deuteric alteration of anorthositic rocks involving replacement of pyroxenes to amphiboles. After the deuteric alteration, hydrothermal system developed by meteoric water dominated the southern area, and erased record of the hydrothermal system developed by magmatic fluid at earlier stage. However, the development of meteoric hydrothermal system has been limited in the southern area only, and could not affect the Sancheong anorthositic rocks in the northern area. The abundant occurrences of secondary alteration minerals such as sericite, calcite, and chlorite in the southern Hadong anorthosite relative to the northern Sancheong anorthositc seem to be related to the overlapping of two distinct hydrothermal systems in the southern area.

  • Objective : Two famous medical doctors, Yoo Itae(以泰, 爾泰) and Riu Euitae(義泰), have been well known in academic world and public in Sancheong-gun. Yoo Itae is the progenitor of Majinhak which is the therapy for measles, he wrote a "Majinpyun" as the first book of therapy for measles in Chosun. Riu Euitae, meanwhile, is a fictional medical doctor and a teacher of Heo Jun who became real without confirmation of historical truths by Roh Jeongwoo who heard about a name, Yoo Itae. Roh's assertion was quoted in the report of literatures, papers, novel, and telecast without verification. His assertion is exposed in novel and media and it has seriously distorted the history. The purpose of this study is to rectify the historical distortion. Methods : Various references study was performed. Confirmed a family tree, birth and death year, birthplace, sepulture, words on a tombstone, writing, collections of works anthology and the existence of keepsake. Investigated records of royal family, Sancheong-gun papers, Sancheong Hyanggyo papers, Dongyuhagan, Chosun Hanryuseungram and the record of Sawoo Munjip(anthology). Analyzed Roh Jungwoo's conversation that tells Riu Euitae is a teacher of Heo Jun and contents of an encyclopedia. Listened to testimony of descendants and assertions of historian in rural area. Verified voice recording on books taken from at birthplace and the space of activity. Results : Yoo Itae is well shown in various records and medical writing books, whereas Riu Euitae does not. Riu Euitae is not a real person in the history. Roh Jeongwoo who asserts Riu Euitae is a teacher of Heo Jun admits his mistake. But, the encyclopedia record describing Riu Euitae is a teacher of Heo Jun, government official at Sancheong district office, historians in rural area, historians in rural area who made a family shrine, gravestone, a statue, memorial, historic site of Riu Euitae on Jinju Rui could not suggest any evidences for the existence of Riu Euitae and for record Riu Euitae is a teacher of Heo Jun. Conclusion : Riu Euitae is neither a real person in the history nor a teacher of Heo Jun. Riu Euitae came from pronunciation confusion between 'I' and 'Eui' in Kyungsang province. Riu Euitae is Yoo Itae on Geochang Yoo who was a medical doctor of King, Sukjeong and wrote medical books including , , .

  • The endemicity of zoonotic trematode metacercariae (ZTM) was investigated with total 871 freshwater fishes (19 species) from Deokcheon-gang (a branch stream of Gyeongho-gang) in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea for 3 years (2018-2020). All fishes were examined with the artificial digestion method. The metacercariae of Clonorchis sinensis (CsMc) were detected in 233 (36.3%) out of 642 fish in 11 positive fish species (PFS), and their infection intensity was 27 per fish infected (PFI). Especially, in index fish, Puntungia herzi, of CsMc infection, prevalence was 64.2% and infection intensity was 37 PFI. Metagonimus spp. metacercariae (MsMc) were found in 760 (87.5%) out of 869 fish in 18 PFS and their infection intensity was 228 PFI. In sweet smelt, Plecoglossus altivelis, the prevalence of MsMc was 97.6% and their infection intensity was 3,570 PFI. Centrocestus armatus metacercariae were detected in 209 (29.4%) out of 710 fish in 8 PFS and their infection intensity was 1,361 PFI. Echinostoma spp. metacercariae were found in 293 (42.6%) out of 688 fish in 15 PFS and their infection intensity was 5 PFI. Metacercariae of Clinostomum complanatum and Metorchis orientalis were also detected in 2.7% and 21.2% fish in 4 PFS and their infection intensities were 3.1 and 3.4 PFI respectively. By the present study, it was confirmed that some species of ZTM including CsMc and MsMc are more or less prevalent in fishes from Deokcheon-gang in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea.

  • Mineralogical, textural, and chemical changes of chlorite by weathering in anorthosite in the Sancheong district were stucdied using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and electron microprobe analysis. Chlorite in anorthosite corresponds to ferroan clinochlore with IIb structural type. It weatheres firstly to regularly mixed-layered chlorite/vermiculite(C/V) and then, to halloysite without the intermediate stage of vermiculite. Clinochlore packet cleaves and transforms to several thin packets of C/V, which subsequently change to halloysite developint fan-sharped structures by large volume increase. Direct halloysitization of C/V is attributed to the rapid weathering of anorthosite.

  • The objective of this paper is to analyze management performance of organic farming management organizations in the large-scale environment-friendly agricultural districts, focusing on cases of organic farming organizations in Chungnam Asan city and Gyeongnam Sancheong-gun which are leading regions in Korean organic agriculture. The management performance in Asan Organic Farming Organization showed that ratio of operating gain to revenue in 2008~2009 increased by 1.2% point compared to in 2006~2007. The management performance in Sancheong Organic Farming Organization showed revenue gain by KRW 2 million in 2009 whereas it suffered a loss by KRW 24 million in 2008. The management performances implied that the amount of financial performance was not yet large and would be a symbol for soundly developing organic farming organization. This paper suggested that network system, recycling agriculture, and the enlargement of processing industry would be very useful to maximize synergy effect in organic farming organizations in a large-scale environment-friendly agricultural districts.

  • The Honam Shear Zone, an important feature in the Phanerozoic geologic history of Korea, has attracted much attention due to its potential tectonic significance. However, little has been known about the displacement amount of the shear zone. Here, we propose a possible displacement marker for the shear zone. The geographic position and peculiar lithology of the Sancheong and Gaya anorthosite bodies in the south-central part of Korea suggest a NE-trending dextral strike slip shear zone that has a displacement of ca. 50 km. This hypothetical shear zone is considered as a part of the Honam Shear Zone since the former has the same trend and shear sense as the latter.
