A turnout system which permits trains to pass from one track to another is a combination of the switch, the crossing, lead rails which are necessary to connect the switch and the crossing, two guard rails and a switch machine for operating the switch. A turnout is the sole moving part among the railway components and has complex configuration, so the safety has always been raised an issue. In Korea, it is planned to adopt the high speed tilting train, which operates at the maximum speed of 200km/h, at conventional lines by the year of 2010. However, for the application of the tilting train to conventional lines, it is prerequisite to establish a stable turnout system allowing the tilting train to pass through it without reducing speed. Therefore, the improved turnout system for the speed-up of conventional lines has been developed and the prototype of the turnout system has been constructed. In this study, simulation of noise and vibration around the improved turnout system was performed in order to predict the generation level of noise and vibration due to passing of the tilting train through the turnout system.
In the past most major accidents resulted in death, but today there is a dramatic increase in the number of people who survive such accidents but who are left with permanent injury. Particularly, children who are inquisitive about their surroundings but immature in their ability to assess danger, are more vulnerable to accidents and their causes as well as to determine attitudes towards prevention. The main objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of using an accident prevention manual for accident for accident prevention education. The study was a quasi-experimental study using a questionnaire format. The subjects of the study were 393 mothers of children attending six day care centers in Seoul. Data collection was done between May 1 and June 15, 1997. The tools used for the study were a questionnaire developed the researchers and a manual for accident prevention. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS. The results of the study are as follows: 1. Types of accidents included stabbing, bums, falls from heights, choking, falls on slippery surfaces, traffic accidents, drowning, poisoning, and electrical shock in that order of frequency. 2. The main causes of accidents in children were from cosmetics and household medications. 3. The most frequent locations of accidents in the home were the bathroom, kitchen, and stairways in that order. 4. For $90.4\%$ of children safety seats were not used when the ridding in a car. 5. In examining the parents' accident prevention practices, it was found that many parents used only . one electrical outlet for many appliances, tending to overload the electricity lines and that they were not practically concerned bout the flammability of children's pajamas, indicating a less than positive attitude towards fire prevention. 6. The parents had not provided their children with any instruction on accident prevention or on what to do after an accident had occurred. 7. After the use of pamphlet in an accident prevention education program, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference in the degree to which children carried out safety measures (t=14.96, p=.000) and in their safety habits (t=-1.67, p<.1) indicating an effectiveness in this method of education. The results of this study showed that there are many things in a child's environment that can cause accidents and that the possibility of an accident occurring is high. So nurses looking after children should be aware of the need for safety education to prevent accidents in the home and plan to provide appropriate educational material to help parents with this education.

Recently, gusts, typhoon and tsunamis have been occurring more frequently around the world. In such an emergency situation, a moored vessel can be used to predict and analyze other vessel behavior, but if the mooring system is destroyed, marine casualties can occur. Therefore, it is necessary to determine quantitatively whether a vessel should be kept in the harbour or evacuate. In this study, moored ship safety in an exclusive wharf according to swell effects on motion and mooring load have been investigated using numerical simulations. The maximum tension exerted on mooring lines exceeded the Safety Working Load for intervals 12 and 15 seconds. The maximum bollard force also exceeded 35 tons (allowable force) in all evaluation cases. The surge motion criteria result for safe working conditions exceeded 3 meters more than the wave period 12 seconds with a wind speed of 25 knots. As a result, a risk rating matrix (risk category- very high risk, high risk and moderate risk) was developed with reference to major external forces such as wind force, wave height and wave periods to provide criteria for determining the control of capabilities of mooring systems to prevent accidents.
There are currently many research papers on the knowledge, perceptions and actions of radiation-related staff, but hardly any papers on radiation major students in college who are to be staff members of radiation related jobs in the future. It is of course important to understand the perceptions of staff working on the lines and change their knowledge and perceptions, but in the long term it seems more efficient to understand those who are in the stage of being educated to be staff members-their knowledge and perception of radiation so that ultimately they can attain the right kind of understanding. Therefore the aim of this study is to grasp the pre-radiation staff's basic concept of radiation and space dose, their understanding of radiation safety based on this, and whether there is a change in their perception before and after the space dose measurement experiment; in the end this is to see if the space dose measurement experiment is effective in changing perception on radiation safety. This study took as its subject 64 students majoring radiation in college, I.e. pre-radiation staff members, and gauged their basic conceptualization of radiation, understanding of space dose, and understanding of radiation safety; in the X-ray room within the department the students were asked to measure space dose for themselves, so as to see whether there was a change in their understanding of radiation safety before and after the experiment, according to their understanding of the basic concept of radiation and of space dose. As a result of the space dose measurement experiment, students' increased basic knowledge of concept of radiation and understanding of the dangers of space dose were noteworthy, and accordingly their understanding of radiation safety became stricter and more conservative. In spite of this, their work ethic stayed in the lead of their understanding of radiation safety; this implies the need of a more departmentalized safety education program. Therefore instead of safety education that simply uses visual-audial material in a kind of lecture, I suggest here that there be a more experiential safety education program that enables learners to try out space dose measurement experiments for themselves, a work ethic education that aims for a conventional point of view towards radiation safety as well as a stern attitude.
This study aimed to analyze health promotion villages from the perspective of therapeutic architecture, and to provide basic information for planning relevant health facilities. On the basis of a review of previous literature, the characteristics of therapeutic architecture were classified into eight categories: safety, comfort, sociality, autonomy, openness, diversity, privacy, and natural environment. Field study and observation were performed in four health promotion villages that conduct programs for lifestyle improvement, physical fitness, and treatment; these villages were also considered to have a healthy residential environment. The researcher and three assistants visited the facilities and checked utilization of space through interviews with the staff and guided tours. Basic information about the subject facilities, such as the purpose of establishment, was gathered from websites before visits. Two of the villages examined in this study had a traditional Korean wooden structure, while the other two were reinforced concrete and masonry block structures. All the facilities emphasized the use of environmentally friendly material and harmony with nature. Each site was divided into the following areas: office, residence, health/treatment, public/rest, and outdoor. The safety standards of the healing architecture were not completely satisfactory at all facilities. In particular, it was found that they lacked adequate universal design equipment. However, the healing characteristics of autonomy and diversity were strong. With regard to autonomy, the facilities allowed visitors to select indoor-outdoor moving lines and the use of front- and backyards constructed on slopes. In addition, they were equipped with many entries, staircases, void, terraces, and crossroads. The architecture was aesthetically designed using feng shui symbolism, and visitors found the scenes depicted in various spaces in the villages to be stimulating. Besides, the facilities were constructed using natural materials, had a natural indoor environment, and provided a sense of spaciousness and flexibility.

The joint cruises of six times between Korea and China were carried out for a better understanding of the environmental and oceanographical characteristics of the Yellow Sea for 6 years from 1998 to 2003. Zooplankton samples were collected one time per year at 24 stations on 3 lines of the Yellow Sea. The aim of this study is to understand the seasonal fluctuation of zooplankton community in the Yellow Sea. There is no trend on the spatio-temporal distribution of zooplankton. Copepoda, the major taxon of the Yellow Sea, was high in distribution in the eastern part and Chaetognatha in the western part of the Yellow Sea. In this results, the dominant copepods were Calanus sinicus, Paracalanus parvus s.l., Oithona atlantica, and Corycaeus affinis during the study periods. The density fluctuation of these dominant species may be an important factor in determining the fisheries resource of the Yellow Sea.

The unified power flow controller(UPFC) is one of the most effective devices in the FACTS family. This paper concerns about a filtering technique for reducing the computer calculation to determine the optimal location of UPFC in a power system. The sensitivities of the power generation cost for UPFC control parameters are evaluated. This technique requires that only one optimal power flow is run to get UPFC sensitivities for all possible transmission lines. To find out a optimal locating of a single UPFC in power system, an ideal transformer model which consists of a complex turns ratio and a variable shunt admittance was used. In this model, the UPFC control variables do not depend on UPFC input and output currents and voltages. The sensitivity method was tested on a 5-bus system derived from the IEEE 14-bus system and IEEE 14-bus system to establish its effectiveness.
This study was conducted to investigate the application of ATP bioluminescence to measure the degree of microbial contamination from raw meat, meat processing and milk processing lines. Samples collected from slaughter house, meat and milk processing plants were tested for estimation of bacterial number by using ATP bioluminescence and conventional method. The former result was transffered to R-mATP value(log RLU/ml), and the latter transffered to CFU(log/ml). Correlation coefficient(r) between aerobic counts(CFU, log/ml) and R-mATP(log RLU/ml) value was 0.93(n=408). R-mATP of aerobic counts from beef, pork, chicken was 0.93(n=220), and that was 0.93(n=187) between meat processing and dairy processing plants. In addition, Correlation coefficient(r) between aerobic counts and R-mATP was 0.87(n=252) under 1$\times$10${^5}$/ml of bacterial count and 0.74(n=152) over 10${^5}$ respectively.
Oleanolic acid and its derivatives are pentacyclic triterpene acids, which are produced in many plants and herbs. These are considered safe and thus, oleanolic acid is now used for cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. Oleanolic acid affects peptidoglycan in cell wall of bacteria. Hence, the antimicrobial activity of oleanolic acid is not very obvious to Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Yersinia enterocolitica, Shigella flexneri, and Shigella sonnei because the peptidoglycan is covered with outer membrane. However, oleanolic acid derivatives showed improved antimicrobial activity to Gram-negative bacteria. For Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes, oleanolic acid was very effective on reducing the cell counts of the pathogens. In addition, the cytotoxicity of oleanolic acid for human cell lines was minimal. Therefore, oleanolic acid should be considered as an antimicrobial food additive and a therapeutic agent to control foodborne pathogens.

3D positional information of lane can be automatically calculated tv combining GPS data, IMU data if coordinates of lane centers are given. The Road Safety Survey and Analysis Vehicle(RoSSAV) is currently under development to analyze three dimensional safety and stability of roads. RoSSAV has GPS and IMU sensors to get positional information of the vehicle and two road-facing CCD cameras for extraction of lane coordinates. In this paper, we develop technology that automatically detects centers of lanes from the road-facing cameras of RoSSAV. The proposed algorithm defines line-support regions by grouping pixels with similar edge orientation and magnitude together and extracts a line from each line support region by planar fitting. Then if extracted lines and the region in-between satisfy the criteria of brightness and width, we decide this region as lane. The proposed algorithm was more precise and stable than the previously proposed algorithm based on brightness threshold method. Experiments with real road scenes confirmed that lane was effectively extracted by the proposed algorithm.
