Comparison of Experimental and FDS Data for Calculating Heat-Affected Range in Forest Fires (산불 열영향 범위 산정을 위한 실험 및 FDS 데이터 비교)

  • This research deals with the combustion experiment of pine trees, which are the most representative species in Korea. Experimental data are compared with theoretical ones using Fire Simulation Program(FDS). It is considered that horizontal/vertical temperature distribution and radiant heat influence on adjacent areas in fire scenes. The linear function for separation distance to temperature was drawn by applying Stefan-Boltzmann's law; $y=112.13133{\times}({\sigma}T^4)^{-0.52916}$ for calculating the separation distance. In combustion experiment, the radiant heat came to $1.4{\sim}1.5kW/m^2$ in case of the separation distance by one meter. The numerical values mean that human body show the critical level of pain after one minute without a protective equipment.

  • A critical problem in the integration of stores into new and existing aircraft is the safe separation of the stores from the aircraft at a variety of flight conditions representative of the aircraft flight regime. Typically, the certification of a particular store/aircraft/flight condition combination is accomplished by a flight test. Flight tests are very expensive and do expose the pilot and aircraft to a certain amount of risk. Wind tunnel testing, although less expensive than flight testing, is still expensive. Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) has held out the promise of alleviating expensive and risk by simulating weapons separation computationally. The forces and moments on a store at carriage and at various points in the flow field of te aircraft can be computed using CFD applied to the full aircraft and store geometry. This study needs full dynamic characteristics study and flow analysis for securing store separation safety. Present study performs dynamic simulation of store separation with flow analysis using Chimera grid scheme which is usually used for moving simulations.

  • A properly determined separation minima applied in Air Traffic Management(ATM) is critical for safe and efficient aircraft operations. The separation minima is primarily determined by the accuracy performance of surveillance system, and, due to the stringent aviation safety standard, the position accuracy of the surveillance system must be estimated with a high level of reliability. This study proposed a method for estimating the position accuracy of surveillance system with a relatively small amount of data by finding upper confidence limit instead of maximum likelihood values of unknown parameters. Through the proposed method, it is possible to determine a required separation minima with a more reliability in the face of data scarcity which often occurs when we implement a new surveillance system such as Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B).

  • With the recent development of defense technology, various aircraft armaments/equipments are being developed. Among them, cruise guided weapons(missile) for launching aircraft can be installed on aircraft aftersecuring reliability and safety through varioustests. In order to avoid collision with aircraft, missile separated from aircraft must release restraint of wing at the specified time, control wing in the specified direction. In order to confirm this, a test system that can control MIL-STD-1760 according to safety separation procedure and verify release performance is required. test system needs a function to check circuit for release of restraints and a function to check driving performance by controlling MIL-STD-1760. In addition, test system should be simulate environment separated from aircraft. This paper presented a testsystemthat can verify circuit and driving performance mounted on missile according to the safety separation procedure, and it was confirmed that it was normally separated from aircraft through flight tests.

Deterministic Data Communication Architecture for Safety-Critical Networks in Nuclear Power Plants (원전 안전통신망을 위한 결정론적 데이터 통신 구조)

  • To develop a safety-critical network in nuclear power plants that puts more stringent requirements than the competitive commercial ones do, we establish four design criteria - deterministic communication, explicit separation/isolation structure, reliability, verification & validation. According to those design criteria, the fundamental design elements are chosen as follows - a star topology, point-to-point physical link, connection-oriented link control and fixed allocation access control. After analyzing the design elements, we also build a communication architecture with TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) bus switching scheme. Finally, We develop a DDCNet (Deterministic Data Communication Network) based on the established architecture. The DDCNet is composed of 64 nodes and guarantees the transmission bandwidth of 10Mbps and the delay of 10 msec for each node. It turns out that the DDCNet satisfies the aforementioned design criteria and can be adequately utilized for our purpose.

Preparation and Properties of Polymer PTC Composites for Process Safety (공정안전용 Polymer PTC 소재의 제조 및 특성)

  • Polymeric positive temperature coefficient(PTC) composites have been prepared by incorporating carbon black(CB) into high density polyethylene(HDPE), polyphenylene sulfide(PPS) and polybutylene terephthalate(PBT) matrices. A PTC effect was observed in the composite, caused by the large thermal expansion due to He consecutive melting of HDPE, PPS and PBT crystallites. This theory is based upon the premise that the PTC phenomenon is due to a critical separation distance between carbon particles in the polymer matrix at the higher temperature. The influence of PTC characteristics of the PPS/CB composite can be explained by DSC result. HDPE, one of prepared composition, exhibit the higher performance PTC behavior that decreaseing of negative temperature coefficient(NTC) effect and improved reproducibility by chemically crosslinking. Also, PBT/CB and PPS/CB composites exhibit the higher PTC peack temperature than HDPE/CB PTC composite, individually $200^{\circ}C$ and $230^{\circ}C$. These PTC composite put to good use in a number of safety application, such as self$.$controlled heater, over-current protectors, auto resettable switch, high temperature proctection sensor, etc.

  • In this paper propose the new method on desig ESJ(Electrical Separation Joint) of Jointless Track Circuit. ESJ has a capability to saparate track signal electrically but enable connected a track section physically. So It is more proper to high-speed line. Because that demand a critical traveling safety and convient taking a train. In spite of existing ESJ of Jointless Track Circuit, UM7l, S-bond, According to new pole-zero placement and desgining tuining-unit It is possible to prove a independence of track-section and track-signal in new ESJ design of this paper

  • In this paper, we reviewed the spindle system's motor and bearing and its mode safety for optimal design of a high speed spindle system that exceeds DmN value of 1,500,000. We could verify that it has a separation margin during critical speed by performing critical speed analysis. Also, we have selected an optimal sensoring installation location and actually manufactured & installed the sensor by identifying the stress concentration position in the axial load through finite element analysis to install the built-in piezo electric type load sensor to the spindle housing that can measure and monitor the machining load during high speed rotation of the spindle. Reproducibility is also verified by calibrating the error through the sensor's sensitivity adjustment after comparing the output between the plate dynamoneters and the load sensor to confirm the reproducibility of the load sensor.

  • This paper proposes a design verification method based on system dynamics for offshore separation systems. Oil and gas separation systems are key components of offshore oil platforms; these systems determine the competitiveness of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects, especially in terms of added value. However, previous research on design verification has been limited to the process and deliverables of design. To address this, the study aims to develop a comprehensive design verification method and the associated functions from the perspective of project management, for the entire project life-cycle of offshore structures. The proposed methodology for design verification is expected to contribute toward effective and detailed designs as well as improve the competitiveness of EPC companies in constructing of shore structures during the early design stages. We first analyzed the separation system of the FPSO using the design verification method adopted by advanced countries and compared it with the system dynamics process formalized as ISO 15288. Subsequently, a tailored process for the design verification of the offshore structure was derived. It is shown that the proposed design verification method can be applied to the front-end engineering design process of of shore structures. Moreover, it can contribute toward the successful performance of offshore projects in the future and also minimize design changes and critical risks during the construction of these offshore structures.
