  • To elucidate the preventive effect of oriental medicine Gungchi -hwadamsun (GH) on stress, we investigated the physiological change of rats which were applied immobilization stress. For immobilization stress, rats were placed in restrainer for 12 hours a day for 3 days. During application of stress, body weight of rats was measured. After sacrifice, 8 organs were taken for measurement of organ weight. Brain was sectioned into 4 parts that are Frontal Cortex, Corpus Striatum, Hypothalamus and Hippocampus. Each part was homogenated and its catecholamine and serotonin contents were measured with HPLC. In our study, stress mainly induced increase of concentration of neurotransmitters in brain, but had mild effect on other physical function of rats. GH inhibited stress induced changes of neurotransmitter content in brain.

  • In this paper we propose a logistic regression method to estimate the survival function and the median survival time in interval-censored data. The proposed method is motivated by the data augmentation technique with no sacrifice in augmenting data. In addition, we develop a cross validation criterion to determine the size of data augmentation. We compare the proposed estimator with other existing methods such as the parametric method, the single point imputation method, and the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator through extensive numerical studies to show that the proposed estimator performs better than others in the sense of the mean squared error. An illustrative example based on a real data set is given.

  • The present study explored the dimensionality of children's prosocial behavior. An instrument for assessing prosocial behavior was developed with 8 variables(orientation for prosocial values, caring, comfort and social equality, helping, harmony among peers, cooperation, donation, sacrifice and concession) using a 5-point scale of 37 items. The reliability for the scale of 8 variables ranged from.75 to.86 by Cronbach's. Construct validity was indicated by self-report, peer rating, and teacher rating.

  • Most open magnetic resonance imaging systems have used the planar gradient coils whose inductances were minimized through the magnetic energy minimization procedure in the spatial frequency domain. Though the planar gradient coils have smaller inductance than conventional gradient coils, the planar gradient coils often suffer from their poor magnetic field linearity. Scaling the spatial frequencies of the current density function designed by the magnetic energy minimization, magnetic field linearity of the planar gradient coils can be greatly improved with small sacrifice of gradient coil inductance. We have found that the figure of merit of the planar gradient coils, defined by the gradient strength divided by the linearity error and the inductance, can be improved by proposed technique.

  • This paper proposes an 3D graphics rendering processor for portable device. One the most important factor is chip size for portable device, but the conventional 3D graphics rendering processor is not a suitable because the processor needs a lot of multiplication and division units. So the proposed architecture substitutes single precision floating point by 32 bit fixed point, and uses recursive units for the same operation such as color values(z, r, g, b, a) and texture values (s, t, u, v). In this approach, we reduce numbers of multiplications and divisions by 66.1% and 75% respectively at the sacrifice of performance degradation by 2.12%.

  • This study attempts to provide the main reasons and decision-making processes for marriage migration from a Vietnamese' perspective. For this purpose, in-depth interviews were conducted in Vietnam. Interviewees are those who got married to foreigners but are waiting for visas and parents whose daughters are marriage migrants. According to 23 interviewees, the main reasons of marriage migration are as follows: individual aspiration, sacrifice for others, and the circumstantial effects or love. Individual aspiration, in particular, leads to an active pursuit of international marriage. Parental involvement in the decision-making process is rarely found. Decision seems to be wholly made by the female migrant herself based on an individualistic orientation.

  • Small animal models are extensively utilized in the study of biomedical sciences. Current animal experiments and analysis are largely restricted to in vitro measurements and need to sacrifice animals to perform tissue or molecular analysis. This prevents researchers from observing in vivo the natural evolution of the process under study. Imaging techniques can provide repeatedly in vivo anatomic and molecular information noninvasively. Small animal imaging systems have been developed to assess biological process in experimental animals and increasingly employed in the field of molecular imaging studies. This review outlines the current developments in nuclear medicine imaging instrumentations including fused multi-modality imaging systems for small animal imaging.
