  • Neurilemmomas are benign tumors originating from Schwann cells, and may occur in various nerves; however, they rarely originate from the lingual nerve. When a lingual nerve neurilemmoma develops in the submandibular space, it can be challenging to diagnose it preoperatively, and this tumor can be misdiagnosed as a usual submandibular gland tumor owing to the rarity and a lack of knowledge about lingual nerve neurilemmomas. Therefore, it is important to consider neurilemmoma in the differential diagnosis in cases where the characteristics of the tumor do not correspond with the typical findings of submandibular gland tumors, in order to avoid inadvertent sacrifice of the nerve because of incorrect diagnosis of a salivary gland tumor. Herein, we report a lingual nerve neurilemmoma in the submandibular space, along with a literature review, to highlight the clinical significance and improve understanding of this type of tumor.

  • Hyundai Motor Company developed the second generation of fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle based on Tucson SUV in 2004. This vehicle has cold start capability below -10C and its driving performances including maximum speed and accelerating time are almost similar to conventional Tucson SUV's performances without any sacrifice in terms of cabin space. Especially. the cold start capability was realized by utilizing only internal power sources such as fuel cell power and high voltage lithium ion polymer battery. In this paper, we will briefly introduce specifications of Tucson FCEV and its driving performances based on field test and simulations.

  • We investigated whether controlled dynamization enhanced regenerative bone healing of the tibia in 12 adult mongrel dogs. An average of 2 cm (∼ 10% of bone length) lengthening was obtained. The left hindlimb was allowed dynamization of 1 mm, 2 mm, and 3 mm in magnitude when 1 cm (∼ 5%) of lengthening was achieved, whereas the right hindlimb was not dynamized and served as a control. Bone mineral density (BMD) of the regenerative bone was measured periodically until nine weeks after the end of distraction. After sacrifice, uniaxial compression testing was performed. Relative BMD ratio and

  • Poly(p-phenylene pyromellitimide) and poly(4,4'-biphenylene pyromellitimide) are representatives of fully rod-like polyimides. Their structure and properties in thin films are reviewed. The polymers exhibit some excellent properties such as high molecular packing coefficient, high mechanical modulus, and low thermal expansion coefficient, and low interfacial stress, so that they are very attractive to both industry and academia. However, these polymers are very brittle and thus practically useless. Some chemical modifications to improve such drawback with a little sacrifice of the high modulus are described: i) incorporation of short side groups into the polymer backbone and ii) insertion of proper linkages into the polymer backbone.

  • Mobile telecommunication service is one of the most competitive and rapidly growing industries in Korea. In competitive environments, it is essential to measure and improve customer satisfaction(CS) levels. However, there are a few problems in existing methods of CS measurement. First, sacrifice such as price is not included properly. Thus, the CS is not expanded into the value concept which is important to customer's behavioral intention. Second, CS measurements are not benchmarked with other competitive companies and CS index cannot reflex it properly. AT&T experienced these problems and suggested customer value added (CVA) for CS measurement. In this study, we try to introduce the CVA concept into our mobile telecom services. CS attributes were constructed, an survey was conducted for 5 mobile telecom companies, CS survey results were presented, and the validity of CVA concept was discussed.

  • Acute toxicity of standardized extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge was examined using male and female ICR mice. Mice were treated with standardized extract the intragastrically at 5 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg or 2,000 mg/kg and observed for two weeks. At the doses used, no mortality or abnormal clinical signs in animals were shown during at the observation period. Also there was no difference in net body weight gain, gross pathological findings at the terminal sacrifice among the groups mice treated with different doses of the test substance. The results suggested that acute oral toxicity of standardized extract of S. miltiorrhiza in mice is very low at the conditions employed in this study.

  • To elucidate the preventive effect of oriental medicine Gami-Ondamtang(GO) on stress, we investigated the physiological change of rats which were applied immobilization stress. For immobilization stress, rats were placed in restrainer for 12 hours a day for 3 days. During application of stress, body weight of rats was measured. After sacrifice, 8 organs were taken for measurement of organ weight. Brain was sectioned into 4 parts that are Frontal Cortex, Corpus Striatum, Hypothalamus and Hippocampus. Each part was homogenated and its catecholamine and serotonin contents were measured with HPLC. In our study, stress mainly induced increase of concentration of neurotransmitters in brain without other significant physical change of rats. GO inhibited stress induced changes of neurotransmitter content in brain.

  • The incidence of breast cancer, the second most prevalent cancer type in South Korea, has increased by 6.8% annually in the last six years. The higher number of breast cancer patients has led to an increase in the cases of skin-sparing mastectomies, thereby increasing the need for reconstructive procedures. The reconstruction options include alloplastic techniques such as implant or autologous reconstruction with numerous flaps. The abdominal area is the preferred donor site for the harvest of autologous tissue for breast reconstruction. Breast reconstruction using abdonimal tissue is commonly accomplished using the transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (TRAM) flap. The establishment of microvascular surgery led to the development of the free TRAM flap because of its increased vascularity and decreased rectus abdominis sacrifice. The muscle-sparing TRAM, DIEP, and SIEA flap techniques were later developed in an effort to decrease the abdominal-donar-site morbidity by decreasing the injury to the rectus abdominis muscle and fascia. This article summarizes the various abdominal flaps for breast reconstruction.
