Research design, data and methodology: Data were collected via online survey of participants in marathon events of United States. Descriptive statistics and Chi-square test were conducted to compare demographics and psycho-behavioral outcomes among SNS information users and non-users for running-specific contents. Multivariate hierarchical regression was next employed to examine research hypotheses. Results: A mass-participant running event was used to test seven hypotheses related to the potential role of SNS for running content in promoting running engagement and life satisfaction. In general, findings revealed that use of SNS for running content along with frequency of use can perhaps facilitate running intensity and influence participation in running-related outdoor activities. Furthermore, while overall life satisfaction did not appear to be influenced by use of SNS for running content, there was a demonstrated influence on the individual satisfaction domains. Conclusions: The findings of current study suggest that sport SNS is information distribution media enhancing users' engagement and their six life satisfaction domains. • This research aims to examine the effects of various types of social comparison in SNS on users' life satisfaction. For this, this research posited four types of social comparison including upward contrast, upward identification, downward contrast and downward identification that might affect SNS users' life satisfaction. Several other factors including demographic variables, SNS usage time, offline social capital and social comparison orientation as control variables were taken into account and the moderating effects of social comparison orientation in the relationships between four types of social comparison and users' life satisfaction was also examined. An online survey was employed for collecting data and the date collected were analyzed with hierarchical regression analysis. The results showed that ages and marriage status have influences on SNS users' life satisfaction. It was proven that the degrees to which SNS users participate in family activities and club/group activities in which they are interested have correlations with their life satisfaction. The findings also revealed that only upward contrast and upward identification among four types of social comparison have influences on the life satisfaction and there is the moderating effect of social comparison orientation on the relationship between upward identification and life satisfaction. On the basis of the results, the necessity of new perspectives in understanding social comparison experience in SNS as compared to the existing literature were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how social motivation, functional motivation, playful motivation, and psychological motivation affect SNS user satisfaction in order to find out what factors are important to Korean high school students in using SNS. As a result, playful motives, functional motives, and psychological motives except social motives have an effect on SNS user satisfaction, and this satisfaction has a positive effect on students' value formation. These results suggest that the reason why Korean high school students use SNS is that they need it and enjoy it, that is, they use SNS from a personal point of view, and are not related to social phenomena. However, social motives were found to have a positive effect on functional and playful motives. In other words, various social phenomena, which are social motives, provide an opportunity and theme for the use of SNS, and functional motives have positive effects on playful and psychological motives. In other words, the various functions provided by SNS have a positive effect on the selection and use of SNS.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the key factors affecting satisfaction of the visually impaired SNS users so that they may use SNS more effectively in the future. This study has used three factors such as the information factor, the relationship factor and the speed factor and the usability as independent variables. The social presence factor was used as a parameter and the SNS user satisfaction as a dependent variable. For the research, 195 visually impaired SNS users have participated in this survey. The major findings of this study are that the relationship factor has strong effects on the self-identification factor, the social presence factor and the SNS usage satisfaction among the factors affecting the visually impaired users to be satisfied with SNS. On the other hand, the information factor and usage factor have no effects on the self-identification factor and the social presence factor. However, they have effects on the SNS usage satisfaction. Additionally, the self-identification factor has no effect on the SNS usage satisfaction, but the social presence factor has effect. Based on the above study results, this paper proposed for the government to enhance the educational program on the use of SNS for the visually impaired and to increase its financial and political support on this subject. Additionally, technical supports on SNS service accessibility and usage by the government are vital for the visually impaired. Academically, this study provides a concrete groundwork for the research on the use of SNS by the visually impaired by providing a solid research direction for further study on this subject. Socially, this study helps the visually impaired use SNS more effectively by increasing the general public awareness of the importance of SNS usages by the visually impaired so that the information gap of the society may be diminished in the future.

  • This study examined the effects of perceived value (functional value, social value) and stress (complexity, insecurity) on continuous intention in SNS. In particular, this study examined the direct and indirect impacts of SNS type on the intention of continuing to use SNS. The research model was tested for 461 respondents that used SNS. SPSS 21.0 and PLS 2.0 techniques were used to perform reliability, feasibility, path and hierarchical regression analysis. The summary of the research results is as follows. First, the results indicate that functional value and social value have positive effects on satisfaction. Second, the results indicate that complexity had a negative effect on satisfaction. Third, the results indicate that insecurity and satisfaction have positive effects on continuous intention. Fourth, the results indicate that SNS type had a negative effect on continuous intention. Fifth, it was shown that SNS type had a moderating effect in the relationship between insecurity and continuous intention. Specifically, Insecurity had a stronger effect on continuous intention at closed-type SNS than open-type SNS. These findings suggest that closed-type SNS companies will have to address the anxiety of SNS users by providing various items and system devices.
