To measure the children's and mothers' self-esteem, SEI(Self-Esteem Inventory) was to used. To measure mothers' facilitative communication levels, "Mothers' Facilitative Communication Scales" was constructed by the researcher. The statistical procedures used for collected data analyses were correlation, one-way ANOVA, multiful regression. The findings are as following: 1. A significant static correlation was found between mothers' self-esteem and children's self-esteem. 2. Also, a significant static correlation was revealed between mothers' facilitative communication level and children's self-esteem. 3. The level of mothers' facilitative communication discloses a significant difference depending upon the mothers' self-esteem. 4. The 2,451 subjects were selected randomly from 4, 5 and 6th grades of elementary schools and the first and second grades of middle schools in the city to Taegu. Factor analysis, Pearson's r, Cramer's V, and Cronbach's αwere conducted for the statistical analysis. It was found that (1) Factor analysis showed that SEI consisted of 4 factors (global, social-peers, home-parents, and school-academics), (2) The discriminant coefficients of the items (Cramer's V)ranged from 0.25 to 0.71, (3) The reliability coefficients of the scale (Cronbach's α) ranged from 0.69 to 0.84, and (4) The correlation coeffcients of the SEI with RSES and CSEI ranged from 0.47 to 0.78.

The Study was conducted for an hour, 1 times a week. In the present study, the whole program consisted of 7 sessions. Other than the Oriental Medicine Music Therapy, the patient had never been cured by other treatments. Results: 1. According to the result of STAXI analysis, the patient with anger scale of 36 (before treatment) became to have anger scale of 31 after the treatment, indicating that the therapy had positive effect on curing the anger symptom. 2. Moreover, the analysis result of BDI showed that the patient with depression scale of 17 (before treatment) turned out to be non-depression state, which he had the depression scale of 8. Regarding the results above, it was observed that the treatment cured the depression symptom. 3. Based on the result of SEI analysis, the patient with a SEI score of 139 (higher the SEI score, more the self-esteem one has) became to have score of 142 after the treatment. The purpose of this study was to develop an Imaginary Audience Reduction Program and examine the effectiveness of using the program on improving female adolescents' self-esteem. Based on the results from the study, 10-session-Imaginary audience reduction program was developed. Then the researcher conducted the Imaginary Audience Reduction Program for 72 female adolescents from 4, May 2000 to 7, July 2000 at the girls'middle school in Daegu. For examining the effectiveness of using the program, the research instruments were Self-Esteem Inventory(SEI; Coopersmith, 1967) and New Imaginary Audience Scale(NIAS; Lapsley, FitzGerald, Rice & Jackson, 1989). The research instruments used for pre-post-follow up tests. The Data were analyzed by Repeated Measure ANOVA. There were statistically significant differences in self-esteem and Imaginary audience. Results revealed that adolescents who took the Imaginary Audience Reduction Program consistently reported the improvement of their self-esteem level and the reduction of their Imaginary audience level. The implication of study findings will be discussed.
The present study was designed to answer the following questions : The first overall question had to do with the relationship between sex-role identity and self-esteem-more specifically, is androgyny or masculinity more importamt in explaining the variation in self-esteem? The second overall question had to do with the degree to which the relationship between sex-role identity and self-esteem is a universal or a culturally specific phenomeon-more specifically, is the relationship between sex-role identity and self-esteem the same in Korean and American cultures? The Bem Sex Role Inventory and the Coopersmith Self Esteem Inventory were administered to 208 American college students and 207 Korean college students, respectively, in introductory sociology classes. The BSRI and SEI are standardized for American subjects and written in English. Prior to administering these instruments to Korean subjects, they were translated ito the Korean Language. In order to fully explore the data, qualitative as well as quantitative measurement of the BSRI were used, and both factorial and regression analyses were performed in this study. The most important cross-cultural differences found in the present study are directly related to the two research questions. In the U.S. sample, masculine attributes were found to be more important in explaining self-esteem. On the other hand, androgynous attributes were positively related to self-esteem in the Korean sample. These findings also provide the answer to the second question. That is, different cross-cultural patterns of relationship were found between sexrole identity and self-esteem, providing some support for a culture-bound relationship. These cross-cultural differences were discussed in terms of both confucian values held by Koreans and Bakan's suggestion of a positive relationship between agentic characteristics and modernization.
Purpose : This study was to examine the relations of perception of physique with self-esteem, sociality and problematic behaviors in children. Methods: Four hundred sixty five (231 boys and 234 girls) children were divided into three groups according to their height or body mass index according to the physical growth standard table had been presented in 2007 by the Korean Pediatric Society. The group 1, 2, and 3 was short, borderline and normal or obese, overweight and normal, respectively. Their perception and satisfaction of height and weight were investigated, and their self esteem and behavior styles were examined with Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI) and Korean Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL). We compared the numbers of appropriate perception, satisfaction, self-esteem and problematic behaviors in each group, and analyzed the relationship among perception of physique, self-esteem, sociality, and behavioral characteristics. The collected data were analyzed with chi-square test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient used with SPSS (ver. 12.0). Results : There were significant mismatches among their real physique perception and satisfaction (P<0.05). There were no significant differences of their self-esteem, sociality, and problematic behaviors according to their actual height and weight. There were significant differences of their self-esteem according to their perception or satisfaction of their height and weight (P<0.01). Conclusion : The children who considered themselves have short stature or obesity had problematic behaviors or low self-esteem. Therefore, children should be educated to have the appropriate perception of their own body image.
