  • High temporal-resolution and accurate measurement of skin impedance locus provides useful data for the identification of the physiological/psychological changes and also the identification of acupuncture point. An impedance spectroscopy method using digitally constructed current waveform consisting of many frequency components (multiples of 1Hz) was reported3. The time resolution of the method depends on the lowest frequency used in the waveform construction, and therefore, the measurement would be faster if the lowest frequency is the higher. However, it was not clear that how many and how low frequencies must be used for the estimation of the skin impedance parameters from which the impedance locus can be drawn. This study shows the relationship between the estimation error of the impedance parameters and the frequency coverage of the spectroscopy. The results of this study are expected to serve as the reference of the frequency selection in the impedance spectroscopy.

  • We present several biosignal measurement results and analysis algorithms or the visual stimulus from International Affective Picture System. Since human body is nonlinear dynamic system, we investigated both linear and nonlinear methods. We found that the chaos was diminished when unpleasant picture is presented relative to pleasant picture, and the alpha wave of EEG was slightly augmented in pleasant picture, but was not convincing result. These can be used as the parameter or the measurement of human sensibility.

  • So far, many kinds of researches on the ceramic chip components and MCM-C RF module especially on the 3-dimensional ceramic module using embedded passives have been performed. LTCC system has many kinds of advantages, like low lass, low cost of process, stability of process etc.. But it's so hard to adjust the characteristics of passives in ceramic module after fabrication. So the exact prediction of behavior of components in high frequency region upper than 2 GHz must be made. In this procedure, the exact measurement is need. In this study, many kinds of measurement Jigs are compared and optimized, and measurement methods of each parameter are designed.

  • In this paper, multi-functional measurement module for RTD and 4-20mA Analog input is presented. As you know, In many industry field, RTD has been used for measuring a temperature. Although It have good properties such as wide measurement range, accuracy, the hardware or software compensation methods were applied to better linearity in many applications. According to this paper, a simply approximation method and various measuring technique are proposed to compensate large lead's resistance influence in RTD temperature measurements. As the experiment and simulation results, it is proved that the proposed method has good performance of measuring temperature. Additionally, with the CAN based communication, remote monitoring and parameter setting functions are realized.

  • This study proposed an improved spike detection algorithm which automatically detects suitable spike threshold on the amplitude of surface electromyography(SEMG) signal during isometric contraction. The EMG data from the low back muscles was obtained in six channels and the proposed signal processing algorithm is compared with the median frequency and Gabriel's spike parameter. As a result, the reliability of spike parameter was inferior to the median frequency. This fact indicates that a spike parameter is inadequate for analysis of multi-channel EMG signal. Because of uncertainty of fixed spike threshold, the improved spike detection algorithm was proposed. It automatically detects suitable spike threshold depending on the amplitude of the EMG signal, and the proposed algorithm was able to detect optimal threshold based on mCFAR(modified Constant False Alarm Rate) in the every EMG channel. In conclusion, from the reliability points of view, neither median frequency nor existing spike detection algorithm was superior to the proposed method.

  • A design and DSP-based implementation of robust nonlinear speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) under the unknown parameter variations and speed measurement error is presented. The model reference adaptive system(MRAS) based adaptation mechanisms for the estimation of slowly varying parameters are derived using the MIT rule. For the disturbances or quickly varying parameters, a quasilinearized and decoupled model which includes the influence of parameter variations and speed measurement error on the nonlinear speed control of a PMSM is derived. Based on this model, a boundary layer integral sliding mode controller to improve the robustness and performance of the nonlinear speed control of a PMSM is designed and compared with the conventional controller which employs Proportional plus Derivative(PD) control. To show the validity of the proposed scheme, simulations and DSP-based experimental works are carried out and compared with the conventional control scheme.

  • This paper presents a residence time distribution (RTD) measurement method using a radioisotope tracer and the estimation method of RTD model parameters to analyze a submerged bio-reactor. The mathematical RTD models have been investigated to represent the flow behavior and the existence of stagnant regions in the reactor. Knowing the parameters of the RTD model is important for understanding the mixing characteristics of a reactor The radioisotope tracer experiment was carried out by injecting a radioisotope tracer as a pulse into the inlet of the reactor and recording the change of its concentration at the outlet of the reactor to obtain the experimental RTD response. The parameter estimation was performed by the Levenberg-Marquardt optimization algorithm. The proposed scheme allowed the parameter estimation of RTD model suggested by Adler-Hovorka with very low deviations. The estimation procedure is shown to lead to accurate estimation of the RTD parameters and to a good agreement between experimental and simulated response.

  • The primary aim of the paper is to solve an unstable axisymmetric initial value problem of wave propagation when given initial data that is deteriorated by noise such as measurement error. To overcome the instability of the problem, Tikhonov's regularization, known as a non-iterative numerical regularization method, is introduced to solve the problem. The L-curvecriterion is introduced to find the optimal regularization parameter for the solution. It is confirmed that fairly stable solutions are realized and that they are accurate when compared to the exact solution.

  • In this paper, we study the network structure that can guarantee the end-to-end quality of service in the Explicit multicast network. In order to guarantee the end-to-end quality of service, we adopt the end-to-end measurement based admission control (EMBAC) scheme. For the effective measurement of the network state and minimum influence on the current data traffic, the queue structure, which the drop precedence in assured forwarding (AF) Per hop behavior (PHB) of the differentiated service (Diffserv) is applied to, is proposed. Through a simulation, we show that EMBAC can make tile controlled load service in tile AF PHB applied Xcast network, and the qualify of the admitted traffic is guaranteed. In addition, the performance of the EMBAC is changing according to the selling parameter of AF PHB.

  • Background and Objectives: We aimed to measure the head dimensions on computed tomography (CT) images, to compare them to directly measured head dimensions, and to predict a new parameter of bone thickness for aiding bone conduction implant (BCI) placement. Subjects and Methods: We reviewed the facial and mandibular bone CT images of 406 patients. Their head sizes were analyzed using five parameters included in the 6th Size Korea project, and they were divided into age groups (ranging from the 10s to the 80s). We compared the head length, head width, sagittal arc, bitragion arc, and head circumference in the CT and Size Korea groups. We also added the parameter bone thickness for aiding BCI placement. Results: All the head size parameters measured using CT were significantly smaller than those measured directly, with head length showing the smallest difference at 7.85 mm. The differences in the other four parameters between the two groups according to patient age were not statistically significantly different. Bone thickness had the highest value of 4.89±0.93 mm in the 70s and the lowest value of 4.10±0.99 mm in the 10s. Bone thickness also significantly correlated with head width (p=0.038). Conclusions: Our findings suggested that the CT and direct measurements yielded consistent data. Moreover, CT enabled the measurement of bone sizes, including bone thickness, that are impossible to measure directly. CT measurements may complement direct measurements in the Size Korea data when used for developing bone conduction hearing devices (BCIs and headsets) for the Korean population.
