  • The area of facility horticulture in Korea is increasing rapidly, the single-span pipe house which uses galvanized steel pipe as the main rafters occupies 78.7% of the facility area. Lightweight structures such as the single-span pipe house are vulnerable to meteorological disasters such as strong winds, economic losses of the state, local governments and farmers are continuing as construction does not meet the design standards. In order to minimize economic losses in the horticultural specialty facilities sector, the Rural Development Administration has been operating the horticultural disaster resilient standard for horticultural specialty facilities since April 2007. The only standard for the pipe connector is the disaster resilient standard, there is no standard for the uplift capacity of the house pipe foundation and the research on it is also insufficient. The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of uplift capacity according to the foundation type, compaction ratio and embedded depth through soil box test. The results of the maximum uplift capacity according to the type, compaction ratio and embedded depth can be used as the basic data for the basic design of the pipe house conforming to the disaster resilient standard. Due to the limitation of soil box test, it may be different from the behavior of pipe house installed on site. In the future, the field test and the actual pipe house should be made and supplemented by comparing this result with the field test values.

  • On former days, school has realized as "where teach", but development of a technology and change of paradigm are changing school as "where study". This is meaning that student is more important and be considered than others when make school environment. Due to continuous investment of national level in several decades, in our elementary school's facilities and environment, when compare with advanced nations that we know that have come to the fairly high level. But, it is not really certainly in middle school and high school. Than the reason is, 'College entrance examination' is prior than other certain values in occasion of high school especially, and we ask a question in return whether have persuaded ourselves that school facilities and environment may change later. It is hard to find more important thing than the proposition in fact on present society. However, it is that society and facilities that can correspond to fast change of paradigm, change of curriculum, learner's change and environment have to be changed in middle school and high school now. Departmentalized Class System that applies in national middle and high school now can become an opportunity that can improve school facilities and environment of middle and high school. In such background, I studied space satisfaction and student's moving route and pattern characteristic of Departmentalized Class System high school in Chungcheongbuk-do area. And this study aims at supply the data about efficient Departmentalized Class System School's facilities plan and space use which can meet on request of students.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of sanitation management within school foodservice facilities and utilities in Gyeongbuk province. Data collection was carried out through surveys given to 200 school dietitians from the province. A total of 108 were usable, resulting in a 54.0% response rate. Statistical analyses were done using the SAS package program (version 8.2 for Windows). Of the study population, 58.3% had more than 10 years of work experience, and 64.8% worked in elementary schools. With regard to the style of foodservice system, 47.2% were urban and 46.3% were rural. Also, 89.8% of the school foodservices provided meals once a day. The performance of the sanitation management items of the facilities and utilities used to provide school foodservice was evaluated using a 5-point Likert scale. The average score for the 25 items was 3.35 points. 'HVAC system installed in foodservice establishment' had the lowest average score at 2.20 points. Whereas 'provide adequate storage capacity to allow refrigerating and freezing and an adequate thermometer is installed and temperatures monitored' had the highest average score at 4.19 points. Nine out of the 25 items were lower than the average score. The performance scores of high schools were significantly higher than those of elementary schools or middle schools for 'window materials are provided that are not liable to break' (p<0.001). The performance scores for urban style foodservices were significantly lower than for rural foodservices for 'floor of kitchen is constructed to maintain a dry system' (p<0.05). In response to questions on kitchen utensils and equipment, significant differences were shown according to the number of meals served per day in 21 out of 56 items, and the style of foodservice system showed significant differences in 14 of the 56 items. Foremost, to make better use of the foodservice facilities and utilities in Gyeongbuk province, immediate improvements should be made for management items in which the degree of performance was below the average score.

  • This study was designed to measure the physical, mental-emotional and social health status of elderlies according to rural areas, medium - small cities, and large city environment. Data collection was done from July 18 to August 17 1990. The subjects were a convenience sample after their place of residence was stratified into large, medium- small cities and rural areas. Those who attended elderly centers in Seodaemun, Mapo, and Kangnam districts in Seoul were considered to be residents of a large city and interviewed by trained research assistants and student nurses. Elderlies living in Chungju, Jinju, Chuncheon, and Jeonju cities were coded as residents of medium-small cities and were interviewed by professors of nursing colleges. Rural residents were interviewed by the community health practioners working in community health clinics in North and South Kyongsang, North and South Jeolla, and Kyonggi provinces. The tool used in this study was the health assessment tool developed by Choi, Young Hee in 1990. This tool was organized into 20 physical health status, 17 mental - emotional health status, and 37 social health ststus items. Physical health status items consisted of six factors - personal hygiene activity ability, external activity utilizing traffic, mass media, and spare time ability, sexual ability, digestive system related ability, sexual ability, sensory ability, and elimination ability. Mental - emotional health status items consisted of two factors - mental health factor and emotional health factor. Social health status items consisted of seven factors -grandparental role ability, parental role ability, spoused role ability, friendship role ability, kinship role ability, group member role ability, and religious believer role ability. Data Analysis included frequencies, percentage, mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, and chi - square test. The results of the analysis are as follows : 1. The mean physical health status score for large city residents was 4.1132, for rural residents 4.0787, and for medium and small city residents 3.9565. There were significant differences according to residential area for personal hygiene activity ability, external activity ability, sexual ability, and digestive system related ability items 2. The mean mental -emotional health status score for rural residents was 3.8291, for medium and small city residents 3.7967, and for large city residents 3.7807. There was a significant difference according to residential area in the mental health ability item. 3. The mean social health status score for medium and small city residents was 3.0000, for rural residents 2.9362, and for large city residents 2.8960. There were significant differences according to residential area for kinship role ability and religious believer role ability items. The following conclusion was derived from the above results 1. The physical health status of elderlies residing in medium - small cities and in rural areas was lower than that of those residing in Seoul, a large urban area. Therefore, more medical facilities are needed in rural area so as to monitor their health, prevent disease, and promote their health. 2. The mental -emotional ststus and social health status of elderlies residing in the large city were lower than that of those residing in medium - small cities and rural areas. This may reflect weakening of the strong traditional family bond that may happen with urbanization. Continued support for elderly parents is essential and education should emphasize the traditional cultural norm and value of filial piety. 3. Facilities and programs for elderly are needed so that they may spend their time more valuably in their urban environment.

By the way, social welfare services is less available and accessible to the rural elderly. And we have very limited information about community -oriented welfare services for the elderly. The lack of social welfare services in rural area resulted from mainly geographic isolation and economic deprivation. So, the present research aimed at; 1) to explore what the social welfare service is benefited from governmental or local assembly. 2) to explore what kind of community services is provided for the rural village and elderly. 3) to appear the political propose for the rural elderly. In South Korea, The Rural Development Administration currently operate 'villages which is supported special programs for the improvement of QOL of rural elderly' in 110 villages. It is a model governmental welfare service for rural area. For the purpose, the survey data is gathered from community level data per village (107 villages), individual survey data(881people) who live in the village and qualitative data. Two kinds of quantitative data is combined to form a data. The statistical methods used for data analysis are descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA. The major findings of this study were as follows : It was founded that the majority family type of the rural elderly is elderly-only households(75%). In case of poor elderly, they have very limited social insurance benefit and they can not get medical services with satisfaction. The result show that the welfare facilities per village and welfare service for the elderly is extremely low while the needs of welfare service is greate high. A distinctive characteristics in rural villages is that they receive a lot of services from private sectors, like as Women Farmers Union, Adult Union. • This study aims at analyzing of residents'attitudes and spatial structures in the rural villages reconstructed by the Rural Village Improvement Project(type A), and suggesting the guiding directions for planning rural villages. Six rural villages located in KyungGi province were selected for case study. The Major findings can be summarized as follows : 1) The ratio of type A project(newly planned village) in the total cases of the Rural Village Improvement Project has increased since 1990, In the majority(91.2%) of the type A project, the project area is below 2 ha and density of dwelling unit is below 40 households/ha. 2) The three spatial structures of newly planned rural village, i.e., Loop pattern, Cul-de-sac pattern, and Dendritic pattern, are identified. And the barns in the newly-build houses are categorized into the five types : the vertical addition type, the horizontal addition type, the vertical- horizontal addition type, the no- barn type, and the reused -barn type. 3) In the newly planned rural villages, the level of satisfactions for the quality of house and water & sewer system is remarkably higher than in the existing rural villages. These are the positive effects caused by the Rural Village Improvement Project. 4) The majority of the villagers think the improvement of the existing rural village, instead of redevelopment or newly planned village, is most desirable, which means the improvement of houses, roads, and sanitary facilities while preserving the spatial structures of the existing village.

  • People are making efforts multilaterally to create agricultural landscape beautifully. Still in farming villages, however, large-scale facilities or houses are disharmonized with natural environment because of their outer colors, mostly primary colors, not considering natural environment. The main study is done on experts' color perception. Investigation about perception of color experts ' view according to the existence of the energy business based on the color to set the direction of the rural landscape in the future. The result of the study shows that the image of the rural area is not reflected well, and the symbolic color of the rural landscape is the reverse image according to the energy business. The rural village's image in the future, "Harmonious", "Natural", "Rural" were higher Figure. There were the most important and harmony with nature. Based on such future harmony with nature in the color planning The colors match and is expected to be the color within the scope. Lack of awareness in the current farming town scenery is unsatisfactory. Awareness about the need for further improvement was higher. Therefore, color according to a harmony with nature images in accordance with the type of farming model should be planned.
