  • This study tried to establish a tentative renewal guideline on spatial structure of the Hub-myun's center villages which would be positioned as sub-centers in the rural settlement hierarchy in Korea. Space Syntax Method was used to analyze the locational characteristics of community facilities in the center villages of 8 pilot project areas which were selected in the nationwide scale. The base-maps for spatial analysis works were prepared firstly from satellite pictures and adjusted through field check. Generally, connectivity and global integration values of center villages were calculated as higher than hinterland villages, which would mean better accessible spatial characteristics in the center villages. And a tentative renewal guideline was proposed for road route improvement and relocation of community facilities in the Hub-myun's center villages.

  • The remarkable growth of city population and rate of urbanization are increasing every year rapidly in Korea. On the other hand young people are decreasing and old people are increasing in rural areas. So in 2009, the five Rural New-Town Development Areas were selected by the Ministry for Food, Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries. To provide data necessary for housing types and floor planning and development suitable for rural new-town development to be implemented constantly in rural areas all over the country later, this study used a space syntax program to analyze housing types and space structures within houses in five new-town development areas. After analyzing 33 floor plans for the five areas, there were few houses with separation of communal (integration space) and personal living spaces (segregation space). In particular, 82% had personal living spaces requiring protection of privacy, such as bedrooms and the toilet, classified into communal living spaces. Residential houses for rural new-town development targeting the young population valuing personal life and privacy, which failed to reflect city people's life properly, were expected to decrease residential satisfaction after occupancy.

The physical landscape indicators were derived from document study and questionnaire survey to evaluate visual landscape on landscape agricultural region. In addition, field study was conducted to examine and inspect the physical landscape indicator, managers' interview and photograph was took for evaluating the landscape simulation. Moreover, the important elements for visual landscape planning of landscape agricultural region, the importance of physical landscape indicator and the preferences of each indicator were derived by conducting questionnaire to experts and general publics. The physical landscape indicator guideline was established from the following procedures. In case of the land, flat area had higher preference than steep region. So, planning an agricultural area at a flat region with open space will be better than establishing an agricultural area on a steep region. In case of the kind of landscape crops, For the background of landscape agricultural region, the seashore type had the highest preference and mountain type and non-background type was followed in order. According to the study, facilities built with natural elements such as straw-roofed pavilion received high preference. Therefore, look-out shed and straw-roofed pavilion should be introduced in the landscape agriculture planning to select materials and colors to keep harmony with the nature. • This study investigated changes in the spatial structure of rural villages in Sayang Village, where accessibility restrictions to island areas were improved, and analyzed the spatial composition of houses according to changes in the living environment. First, despite the island's vulnerable transportation requirements being resolved by the completion of the land and bridge in 2018, the local economy continues to stagnate due to a vicious cycle of local living services and job losses. Second, when a survey of residents' changed living services was conducted through the continuation of the specification map, the scope of living areas was expanded by analyzing the frequency and place of visit of fresh food purchases, use of convenience facilities, and medical visits. Third, it is judged that the naturally formed village is composed of small roads to the inside of the village due to the disorganized street system and the form of walking instead of vehicles. Finally, as a result of analyzing the residential space of houses in fishing villages, the aging rate of houses over 30 years old was 62 (91.2%), and the average area of the first house space built was 65.2m2 to 14.1m2, an increase of 17.8% of the total area.

  • In 2011, neighborhood parks occupied a total area of $280,135,257m^2$ in small and medium sized city areas and this excluded the metropolitan regions. In the rural area, the park area per person($22.64m^2$) is larger than the urban area($9.50m^2$). It is a questionable why there is a higher park ratio in the rural area compared to the cities, where the function of the neighborhood parks is not being utilized well. But, there are already a lot of parks that has been constructed in the rural areas and a lot of money is being spent in maintaining them. Hence, rather than reducing the number of "country parks", it can be suggested that these "country parks" ought to be utilized in a different manner than the parks in the city. In that point of view, this study examined the issues of the country park usage along with the utilization of the local festivals within the parks. Firstly in this context, this study compared the amount of neighborhood parks between small and medium sized cities and metropolitan areas, and analyzed those results. Secondly, daily newspaper articles were collected and categorized to find the usage of the rural park which were then analyzed. Then, the extraction of the essential points in composing the festival space was carried out. Also, the general design guides of making the neighborhood parks were drawn. Last but not least, using these two resources, this study suggested design guidelines for using neighborhood parks as a Festival Space in small and medium sized cities.

  • Rural policies in Korea have been changed into amenity-oriented ones recently to enhance the quality of life for villigians, which should be supported by the amenity-oriented maintenance system for rural space or environment too. Although so many studies on the classification system of amenity resources had been carried out, few ones which classified them principally by their spatial characteristics had been tried. From the viewpoint mentioned above, this study tried to propose a tentative classification system of amenity resources focussed on their locational characteristics. By the literature review, its draft was prepared, and after 2-round expert checks, the final table determined, which composed of 3-subsystems; green, production and living environment. Through the field application works in two case villages, its practical applicability was ascertained, from which two regarding points were found; public usability of terms and seasonality of amenity resources, especially green ones.
