  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the applicability of extracted PRMS input parameters by KGIS-Hydrology over Yongdam-Dam watershed. KGIS-Hydrology is a system for automatic extraction and analysis of watershed characteristic data. Input parameters of PRMS were generated from GIS data (DEM, soil, forest type, etc.) using KGIS-Hydrology. Multi-temporal meteorological data from Jangsu station of KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) were used for all simulation periods. Input parameters of PRMS were optimized using observed runoff data of Yongdam-Dam station (1966-2001) and validated using observed runoff data of Yongdam-Dam station (2002-2006, Yongdam-Dam watershed). The results showed that the simulated flows were much closed to the observed flows of Yongdam-Dam (2002-2006) and Donghyang (2001-2004) station by 0.49~0.83 and 0.57~0.75 model efficiencies, respectively.

  • The following is a method of synthetic unitgraph derivation based on the routing of a time area diagram through channel storage, studied by Clark-Jonstone and Laurenson. Unithy drograph (or unitgraph) is the hydrograph that would result from unit rainfall\ulcorner excess occuring uniformly with respect to both time and area over a catchment in unit time. By thus standarzing rainfall characteristics and ignoring loss, the unitgraph represents only the effects of catchment characteristics on the time distribution of runoff from a catchment The situation abten arises where it is desirable to derive a unitgraph for the design of dams, large bridge, and flood mitigation works such as levees, floodways and other flood control structures, and are also used in flood forecasting, and the necessary hydrologie records are not available. In such cases, if time and funds permit, it may be desirable to install the necessary raingauges, pruviometers, and stream gaging stations, and collect the necessary data over a period of years. On the otherhand, this procedure may be found either uneconomic or impossible on the grounds of time required, and it then becomes necessary to synthesise a unitgraph from a knowledge of the physical charcteristics of the catchment. In the preparing the approach to the solution of the problem we must select a number of catchment characteristic(shape, stream pattern, surface slope, and stream slope, etc.), a number of parameters that will define the magnitude and shape of the unit graph (e.g. peak discharge, time to peak, and base length, etc.), evaluate the catch-ment characteristics and unitgraph parameters selected, for a number of catchments having adequate rainfall and stream data and obtain Correlations between the two classes of data, and assume the relationships derived in just above question apply to other, ungaged, Catchments in the same region and, knowing the physical characteritics of these catchments, substitute for them in the relation\ulcorner ships to determine the corresponding unitgraph parameters. This method described in this note, based on the routing of a time area diagram through channel storage, appears to provide a logical line of research and they allow a readier correlation of unitgraph parameters with catchment characteristics. The main disadvantage of this method appears to be the error in routing all elements of rainfall excess through the same amount of storage. evertheless, it should be noted that the synthetic unitgraph method is more accurate than the rational method since it takes account of the shape and tophography of the catchment, channel storage, and temporal variation of rainfall excess, all of which are neglected in rational method.

  • In this study, to estimate the transforming (runoff and leachate) rate of the livestock resources applying to agricultural crop land as fertilizer, field scale test was conducted and the results were obtained as follows. According to results of livestock resources effect to agricultural land, the total amount of harvested crop from testing bed was $0.437kg/m^2$, and nutrient contents were $0.024{\pm}0.006%$ and $0.020{\pm}0.004%$ for N and P, respectively. Dynamics of contaminants in the livestock resources to be supplied to agricultural crop land showed that concentrations were continuously decreased to the level of blank test bed until 60 days of planting. The amount of runoff from farm land showed the tendency to increase according to the increase of rainfall intensity. Run-off ratio of 10mm/h rainfall intensity for agricultural land showed that each contaminant concentration was increased due to rainfall intensity with 8 mm/h, specifically SS showed the highest increase.

  • As the impermeable area increases due to urbanization and industrialization, the influence of non-point pollutants caused by rainfall runoff on the water system is increasing. In the past, the best management practices(BMP) were used a lot to manage non-point pollutants, but recently, technology that naturally treats them through LID (Low Impact Development) technology is widely used. In this study, various rainfall events were simulated through the SWMM model based on the data of rainfall monitoring in bioretention among natural facilities. The characteristic of LID modeling research is that it is difficult to build accurate modeling data with short-term data because real data is the result obtained through natural facilities, and it is difficult to implement an accurate model. In this study, the data monitored for 3 years It is significant in that it has built a precise model. The actual data monitored a total of 18 times was simulated, and the inflow and outflow and the removal efficiency of five pollutants were simulated. As a result of performing the performance evaluation, most of the 7 items showed excellent indicators, and the TN and TP showed relatively low simulation performance. In the future, it is expected that Korea will introduce an integrated water management system in which the water supply system and the sewage system are substantially integrated and operated. Therefore, the results of this study are considered to play an important role in the initial stage of rainfall management in the future integrated water management system, and the extent of rainfall runoff reduction and pollutant reduction in the expected installation area can be predicted in advance. This is expected to prevent overdesign of bioretention.

  • This study aims to develop a regression model that estimates a low-flow index that can be applied to ungauged basins. A total of 30 midsized basins in South Korea use long-term runoff data provided by the National Integrated Water Management System (NIWMS) to calculate average low-flow, average minimum streamflow, and low-flow index duration and frequency. This information is used in the correlation analysis with 18 basin factors and 3 climate change factors to identify the basin area, average basin altitude, average basin slope, water system density, runoff curve number, annual evapotranspiration, and annual precipitation in the low-flow index regression model. This study evaluates the model's accuracy by using the root-mean-square error (RMSE) and the mean absolute error (MAE) for 10 ungauged, verified basins and compares them with the previous model's low-flow calculations to determine the effectiveness of the newly developed model. Comparative analysis indicates that the new regression model produces average low-flow, attributed to the consideration of varied basin and hydrologic factors during the new model's development.

  • After the Total Maximum Daily Loads(TMDLs) was applied, it became beyond the limit of concentration management. However, it does not adequately reflect the characteristics of various watersheds, and causes problems with local governments because of the standard flow set. Thus, in this study, the Han River system is organized into four groups in estimating the Pollution Contribution by applying the Flow Duration Curve(FDC) created by the daily flow of data from the HSPF. And the method of this study is expected to be valuable as basic data for the TMDLs. As a result, Group I contains the main watersheds with no large hydraulic structures and tributary watersheds. There is no specificity in the FDC and the Pollution Contribution is estimated as rainfall runoff. Group II contains watersheds near the city where the FDC is maintained above a certain level during the Low Flow Conditions and the Pollution Contribution is estimated as the discharge flow of large scale point pollution facilities. Group III contains the main watersheds in which the large hydraulic structures are installed and FDC is curved in the Low Flow Conditions. So the Pollution Contribution is estimated as the water quality of the large hydraulic structures. Group IV contains the upstream in mainstream watersheds in which the large hydraulic structures are installed and the FDC is disabled before the Low Flow Conditions. As the flow is concentrated in the High Flow Conditions, the non-point pollution sources are estimated as the Pollution Contribution.

  • In this study, we analyzed typhoon affecting Korean Peninsula and runoff characteristic changes according to the typhoon based on Sumjin river dam, a representative multi-purpose dam. We quantified typhoon flow by applying the typhoon domain, and will provide base data for climate change adaptation and counterstrategy through correlation analysis of the change of typhoon statistical data and Indicators of Hydrologic Alterations (IHA). Korean Peninsula impact typhoon has a great effect on the scale of peak flow and the change of occurrence time. The occurrence frequency and duration of the peak flow were analyzed to be relatively unrelated to the typhoon affected by the Korean peninsula. These changes were also confirmed in the correlation analysis results. Correlation coefficient between the peak flow (0.41) and peak flow occurrence time (correlation coefficient = 0.83) was positively correlated with the Korean peninsula influenced typhoon.

  • Converting the agricultural land-use of rice field to upland has been increasingly conducted as farmers encourages themselves to grow higher value-added crops on rice fields under the policy support. Comparing to rice field, Upland shows different characteristic of discharge due to the slope, scale, and shape of field and characteristics of rainfall event. In this study, we designed the experiment fields reflecting flat-upland characteristics with different land scale, and tried to collect the discharge and load data. Soybeans and corn were selected as target crops considering the possibility of large-scale cultivation and crop demand. The cultivation was conducted during the growth period in 2019 with 3 different field scales. Hence, we have collected the discharge data from 17 rainfall events and the load data for 8 rainfall events. As a result, the magnitude of rainfall events and the discharge duration were found to have a strong positive correlation and field discharge occurred during the period by 55% to 83% of rainfall duration. Besides we found other relationships and characteristics of rainfall event, discharge, and pollutant load and also pointed out that continuous monitoring and more data are required to derive statistically significant results. Compared with slope-field monitoring data obtained from the precedent research, the runoff ratio of the flat-fields was significantly lower than slope-fields. Overall the discharge in the slop and flat-fields shows appreciably different characteristics so that the related researches need to be further conducted to reasonably assess environmental impact of agricultural activities at flat-field.
