  • Generally, it is pointed out that the submerged breakwater with one row can not regulate the long period waves efficiently, because the crown width is very shorter than the wave length of the long period waves. Therefore, the wide crown is needed to raise the controlling efficiency for the long period waves. This study picks up the submerged breakwater with two rows which has smaller construction materials comparing to the one row and discusses the wave controlling function for the long period waves. Judging from the results obtained by using the strict dividing region method, the submerged breakwater with two rows can more regulate the long period waves than one row can, especially, in case that crown width and inner width of its construction come to be wider.

  • The minimum permanent and the set of minimizing matrices over the face of the polytope n of all doubly stochastic matrices of order n determined by any staircase matrix was determined in [4] in terms of some parameter called frame. A staircase matrix can be described very simply as a Ferrers matrix by its row sum vector. In this paper, some simple exposition of the permanent minimization problem over the faces determined by Ferrers matrices of the polytope of n are presented in terms of row sum vectors along with simple proofs.

  • Experiments on sweet sorghum(sorgo) with different population per unit area were conducted from 1966 to 1968 for the first time in Korea. By increasing plant population stalk weight, refinable sugar and seed weight per plot were increased, but stalk weight per plant, brix percentage, sugar content, stem diameter and 1, 000 seed weight were decreased. Plant height, maturity and lodging were not affected by the treatments. The result obtained has suggested that the effects of plant spacing within row on the characteristics of plant growth and on yields were greater than those of row width. Negative correlations existed between sugar content and sugar yield, and seed weight per plant and seed yield. The optimal plant population in this study ranged from 16, 700 to 22, 200 plants per 10a, row width of 60cm and plant spacing in row of 15 to 20cm resulted in the highest sugar and seed.

  • This study aimed to analyze changes in temperature and humidity based on the presence of roadside trees (tree, tree + shrub) and their arrangement (single row, double row), and calculate the discomfort index to evaluate the thermal environment. For this, three temperature and humidity observation campaigns were conducted from June to September 2023 in Dalseo-gu and Jung-gu, Daegu. Results from the observation in Dalseo-gu showed that temperature and humidity were inversely related. During the day, areas with roadside trees consistently exhibited lower temperatures than those without trees. This pattern was evident in all observation campaigns. In particular, the temperature difference between the areas increased during peak heat hours (15:00-16:00). Specifically, the average temperatures were lowest in areas with tree + shrub planting, followed by tree-only areas, and highest in areas without trees, showing statistically significant differences. The highest temperatures were observed at night and early morning in areas with trees or tree + shrub planting. Conversely, when calculating the discomfort index, areas with trees and shrubs showed the most favorable thermal comfort. In Jung-gu, nearly all observations indicated that areas with double-row tree-planting had significantly lower temperatures than areas with single-row tree-planting. The discomfort index was also found to be more positive in second-row tree planting areas compared to first-row tree planting areas. By quantitatively analyzing the cooling effect of urban roadside trees and the improvement in thermal comfort, this study provides empirical evidence that can be used to support urban forest projects and related policy implementations.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develope efficient techniques for implementing the dual simplex method. In this paper we proposed one artificial row technique to get an initial dual feasible basic solution, a dual steepest-edge method coupled with a dropping row selection rule, and an anti-degeneracy technique which resembles the EXPAND procedure for the primal simplex method. The efficiency of the above techniques is shown by experiments. Finally, the dual simplex method is shown to be superior to the primal simplex method when it is used in the integer programming.

  • A new stability analysis of QR factorizations using the two types of Householder reflections is presented. It shows that the use of the common type(the first) in QR factorizations with pivoting for size by row and column exchanges leas to rowwise more stability, although the second type has been used in Householder transformation for the better purpose. A row-oriented backward error bound for the second type Householder QR factorizations with column pivoting is drived.

  • This research presents a nonlinear model to analyze the ball bearing nitration due to the waviness in a rigid rotor supported by multi-row ball bearings. The waviness of a ball and each races is modeled by the superposition of sinusoidal function, and the position vectors of inner and outer groove radius center are defined with respect to the mass center of the rotor in order to consider five degrees of freedom of a general rotor-bearing system. The waviness of a ball bearing is introduced to these position vectors to use the Hertzian contact theory in order to calculate the elastic deflection and nonlinear contact force resulting from the waviness while the rotor has translational and angular motion. They can be determined by solving the nonlinear equations of motion with five degrees of freedom by using the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg algorithm. Numerical results of this research are validated with those of prior researchers. The proposed model can calculate the translational displacement as well as the angular displacement of the rotor supported by the multi-row ball bearings with waviness. It also characterizes the nitration frequencies resulting from the various kinds of waviness in rolling elements, the harmonic frequencies resulting from the nonlinear load-deflection characteristics of ball bearing. and the sideband frequencies resulting from the waviness interaction.

  • Spraying method from the paddy-field levee is known to give insufficient penetration of the spray droplets to the rice stem of the densely grown plants, which is generally encountered at the last stage of rice growth. This study was intended to investigate the spraying system to solve this existing problem. As an approach, it was attempted to develop the boom-with-nozzle, between-the-row application system. Several types of nozzles and their different arrangements in the boom were tested in the field to measure the penetration-reaching distance and the uniformity of spray droplet distribution. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. Field experiments by the spraying method from the paddy-field levee showed to have practically no penetration of the spray droplets to the portion of the plant stem with the normal flow volume generally applied and thus need for improving present spraying method. 2. It was found that, considering both the uniformity of the spray droplet distribution and performance rate, the most efficient type of nozzle in the between-the-row boom-type spraying system was one that has core-insert hollow-cone with some clearance between the cone and tip. 3. When tested by applying the spraying method of between-the-row, the nozzle pressure did not affect the uniformity of spray droplet distribution. However, the nozzle pressure had a positive effect on the penetrating-reaching distance of the facing side of the rice stem and did not affect much on that of the opposite face of the stem. It was also found that the maximum pressure to affect the penetration-reaching distance was about $10kg/cm^2$. 4. The uniformity of the spray droplet distribution in the between-the-row system was greatly affected by the height and orientation of the nozzles in the boom. Based on experimental work for the different type of the boom-with-nozzle arrangements, it is recommended that the position of nozzle is set at about 0.45 m above the ground and two nozzles in the boom are oriented to be faced with each other with some angle such that the droplet stream from the nozzle would not directly face with each other.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the specificities of four fulcrum types for geo-statistical analysis of elevation within rice paddy field. In Korea, the spaces between inter-rows and between hills for rice transplanting are 30cm and 11cm to 14cm, respectively. So, the size and shape of fulcrum for field elevation measurement should be considered according to the inter-row and the hill spaces. Four kinds of fulcrum were chosen such as round-shape with 2.5cm diameter, circular-shape with 10cm diameter, 10cm (one third of inter-row space) by 24cm (double of hill space) rectangular-shape, and 20cm (two-thirds of inter-row space) by 24cm rectangular-shape. The resulting descriptive statistics couldn't determine the best fulcrum type to measure the rice paddy field elevation. But the results of geo-statistical analysis could determine the best fulcrum type. In the case of 10cm by 24cm rectangular-shape fulcrum, Nugget and range, meaning measurement error and/or noise, and limit of spatial connection, respectively, were minimum; Q value meaning weight of spatial structure and $r^2$ value were minimum, and residual sum of squares was minimum. It means that 10cm by 24 cm rectangular-shape fulcrum could best describe the rice paddy field elevation.

  • This is a study on rectangular-shaped passive row piles in inclined sand-ground by model tests. The experiment controlled the angle of inclination of ground and induced the ground destruction. We also measured the behavior of row piles, by adjusting the shape, position and spacing of piles. As a result, we confirmed the earth pressure, the lateral resistance, and the effect of depressing on the ground variation working on passive pile. The effect of B-type pile of which the front width is wide is bigger than that of H-type pile of which the side width is wide. We can find out the failure angle of slope, the shared force of pile and soil by using the lateral resistance graph based on slope angle.
