One of the crucial problems that must be solved in a computerised unmanned machining environments requires the development of algorithm in order to predict the reliable cutting conditions on surface roughness. This paper is to develop the mathematical models for choosing the suitable cutting conditions and assist a comprehensive understanding of its machinability properties for cutting process by Ball End Mill. The mathematical equations developed to predict the surface results. It has been found that theoretical results obtained from the empirical equations agree with the experimental results of surface roughness.
The results were obtained with changes according to the surface roughness of work roll and method to make the peak count on the roll in the temper rolling, and factors to affect to the work roll surface in actual rolling machine(ie. Temper mill). Conclusions are as follows. 1. E.D.T(Electro-discharge texturing)roll is more uniform roughness distribution than shot blasted roll and it's life time is two timees longer than that of shot blasted because it has more sine wave roughness. 2. The higher peak count of surface roughness, the more time is necessary to work roll texturing In shot blasting method, Surface roughness is relating to the grit size, impeller speed and hardness of roll material, But is can't control the peak count. 3. In shot blast texturing, Surface roughness of temper rolled strip which is transfered surface roughness of work roll is more ununiform than that of E.D.T roll 4. E.D.T roll has more uniform than the shot blasted roll and has more peak count than that of shot blasted roll. The surface of painted strip to image clarity is superior to that of shot blasted roll because E.D.T roll has more peak count and smooth surface.
This paper describes a numerical investigation on the performance deteriorations of a low speed, single-stage axial turbine due to use of rough blades. Numerical calculations have been carried out with a commercial CFD code, CFX-Tascflow, by using a modified wall function to implement rough surfaces on the stator vane and rotor blade. To assess the stage performance variations corresponding to 5 equivalent sand-grain roughness heights from a transition ally rough regime to a fully rough regime, stage work coefficient and total to static efficiency were chosen. Numerical results showed that both work coefficient and stage efficiency reduced as roughness height increased. Higher surface roughness induced higher blade loading both on the stator and rotor which in turn resulted in higher deviation angles and corresponding work coefficient reductions. Although, deviation angle changes were small, a simple sensitivity analysis suggested that their contributions on work coefficient reductions were substantial. Higher profile loss coefficients were predicted by higher roughness heights, especially on the suction surface of the stator and rotor. Furthermore sensitivity analysis similar to the above, suggested that additional profile loss generations due to roughness were accountable for efficiency reductions.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to observe the surface roughness and surface topography of cobalt-chrome (Co-Cr) alloys with grinding time in dental barrel finishing. Methods: This study involved two types of Co-Cr alloys. Specimens were manufactured with the dimensions 10×10×2 mm. Each specimen was cast according to the manufacturer's instructions. The cast alloys were polished for 35 minutes at intervals of five minutes in an automatic barrel finishing. Specimens were imaged with a three-dimensional optical microscope to measure surface roughness. Results: BC specimens and GM specimens had the highest roughness (Ra) values in the ungrained control group, and the lowest Ra values were measured 20 minutes after grinding. Conclusion: The best conditions for grinding Co-Cr alloy using a dental barrel finishing were a weight ratio of polishing media, water, and compound of 150 g:200 g:5 g, and a rotation speed of 450 rpm. Grinding time to obtain appropriate surface roughness should be limited to 15 to 30 minutes.
Ti-6Al-4V alloy has a wide range of applications, ranging from turbine blades that require smooth surfaces for aerodynamic purposes to biomedical implants, where a certain surface roughness promotes biomedical compatibility. Therefore, it would be advantageous if the high volumetric density is maintained while controlling the surface roughness during the LPBF of Ti-6Al-4V. In this study, the volumetric energy density is varied by independently changing the laser power and scan speed to document the changes in the relative sample density and surface roughness. The results where the energy density is similar but the process parameters are different are compared. For comparable energy density but higher laser power and scan speed, the relative density remained similar at approximately 99%. However, the surface roughness varies, and the maximum increase rate is approximately 172%. To investigate the cause of the increased surface roughness, a nonlinear finite element heat transfer analysis is performed to compare the maximum temperature, cooling rate, and lifetime of the melt pool with different process parameters.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of tooth bleaching agent contained 35% hydrogen peroxide on the color, microhardness and surface roughness of tooth-colored restorative materials. Methods : Four types of tooth-colored restorative materials, including a composite resin(Filtek Z350 ; Z350), a flowable composite resin(Filtek P60 : P60), a compomer(Dyract$^{(R)}$ AP ; DY), and a glass-ionomer cement(KetacTM Molar Easymix ; KM) were used in the study. The specimens($8mm{\times}5mm$) were made by using a customized acrylic mold. Each material was divided into two groups equally(n=40) : experimental group(35% HP) and control group(distilled water). 35% HP group was treated 30 mim/5 days for 15 days. Each 30 minute treatment session consisted of two 15 minute cycles of gel application with 20 second light exposure. The authors measured the color, microhardness, and roughness of the specimens before and after bleaching. The data were analyzed with ANOVA and T-test. Results : 35% HP group showed an apparent color change(${\Delta}E^*$) than control group. In particular, DY and KM showed a noticeable color change and statistically significant differences(p<0.05). 35% HP group showed a reduction in microhardness. Z350 and P60 does not have a statistically significant difference(p>0.05), DY and KM showed a statistically significant difference(p<0.05). Percentage microhardness loss(PML) of control group was 0.6 to 5.5% in the group, 35% HP group was 6.6 to 34.6%. Roughness was increased in 35% HP group after bleaching. Especially DY and KM were significantly increased(p<0.05). Conclusions : Bleaching agents may affect the surface of existing restorations; therefore, they should not be used indiscriminately when tooth-colored restorations are present.
In this study, the surface modification of copper foil using an inductively coupled $O_2$ / Ar plasma as $O_2$ gas fraction (0~100%) was investigated in order to improve the surface characteristics. After plasma treatment, the measurement of the surface roughness, surface contact angle and surface energy were performed for the surface analysis of copper foil. As a result, the surface roughness and the surface energy were increased. And plasma diagnostics was performed by a double Langmuir probe (DLP) and optical emission spectroscopy (OES). Using these results, the plasma surface modification mechanism was investigated.

Organic light emitting layer in OLED device was formed by gravure printing process in this work. Organic surface coated by gravure printing typically showed relatively bad uniformity. Thickness and roughness control was characterized by applying various mixed solvents in this work. Poly (N-vinyl carbazole) (PVK) and fact-tris(2-phenylpyridine)iridium($Ir(ppy)_3$) are host dopant system materials. PVK was used as a host and Ir(ppy)3 as green-emitting dopant. To luminance efficiency of the plasma treatment on etched ITO glass and then PEDOT:PSS spin coated. The device layer structure of OLED devices is as follow Glass/ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PVK+Ir(ppy)3-Active layer /LiF/Al. It was printed by gravure printing technology for polymer light emitting diode (PLED). To control the thickness multi-printing technique was applied. As the number of the printing was increased the thickness enhancement was increased. To control the roughness of organic layer film, thermal annealing process was applied. The annealing temperature was varied from room temperature, $40^{\circ}C$, $80^{\circ}C$, to $120^{\circ}C$.
In recent years alternative navigation system such as a DBRN (Data-Base Referenced Navigation) system using geophysical information is getting attention in the military navigation systems in advanced countries. Specifically TRN (Terrain Referenced Navigation) algorithm research is important because TRN system is a practical DBRN application in South Korea at present time. This paper presents an integrated navigation algorithm that combines a linear profile-based TRN and INS (Inertial Navigation System). We propose a correlation analysis method between TRN performance and terrain roughness index. Then we propose a conditional position update scheme that utilizes the position output of the conventional linear profile type TRN depending on the terrain roughness index. Performance of the proposed algorithm is verified through Monte Carlo computer simulations using the actual terrain database. The results show that the TRN/INS integrated algorithm, even when the initial INS error is present, overcomes the shortcomings of linear profile-based TRN and improves navigation performance.
