  • In this research, CFD calculation was implemented to analyze wind tunnel effect or rotor experiment in wind tunnel. One case included model wind turbine and all wind tunnel geometries. The other case include only rotor and nacelle system. Star-CCM+ was used for CFD analysis and rigid body motion around rotor area was applied to simulate rotating rotor. As for turbulence model, K-omega SST was used. The results were compared in 15m/s inflow condition. These results shows a good agreement with the measurement. Then, the result without wind tunnel was slightly different to the result with wind tunnel. Thus, in the case of Mexnex wind tunnel measurement, the wind tunnel don't affect the measurement result. Then, this wind tunnel and rotor size ratio can be reference for wind tunnel experiment of wind turbine rotor.

  • IVarious driving mechanisms to adapt to uneven environment have been developed for many urban search and rescue (USAR) missions. A tracked mechanism has been widely used to maintain the stability of robot's pose and to produce large traction force on uneven terrain in this research area. However, it has a drawback of low energy efficiency due to friction force when rotating. Moreover, single tracked mechanism can be in trouble when the body gets caught with high projections, so the track doesn't contact on the ground. A transformable tracked mechanism is proposed to solve these problems. The mechanism is designed with several articulations surrounded by tracks, used to generate an attack angle when the robot comes near obstacles. The stair climbing ability of proposed robot was analyzed since stairs are one of the most difficult obstacles in USAR mission. Stair climbing process is divided into four separate static analysis phases. Design parameters are optimized according to geometric limitations from the static analysis. The proposed mechanism was produced from optimized design parameters, and demonstrated in artificially constructed uneven environment and the actual stairway.

  • In this study, computer applied engineering (CAE) techniques are fully used to conduct structural and dynamic analyses of a huge composite rotor blade. Computational fluid dynamics is used to predict aerodynamic load of the rotating wind-turbine blade model. Static and dynamic structural analyses are conducted based on finite element method for composite laminates and multi-body dynamic simulation tools. Various numerical results for aerodynamic load, static stress, buckling and dynamic analyses are presented and characteristics of structural behaviors are investigated herein.

  • In this paper, an arbitrary mission of a spacecraft from launch to orbit injection is investigated for some launch trajectories. Launch sites are selected arbitrarily from various locations in Korea. For this study, a general purpose simulation program is developed. In this program, the Earth is assumed to be a rotating ellipsold. The launch vehicle is treated as a 3-D, 6-DOF rigid body. The developed program has been evaluated by calibrating it to the 3-stage N-1 rocket developed in Japan and launched at Tanegasima. The simulated trajectory from the first-stage ignition to burnout of third-stage main engine is compared with the previously tested N-1 rocket trajectory in Japan. The result shows that the program works properly. Using the proven program, we have investigated possible launch locations in Korea, namely Marado, Sungsan and Kuryongpo. The problem of polar orbit injection is also examined.

  • We present numerical and experimental results of periodic flows inside a rectangular container under a background rotation. The periodic flows are generated by changing the speed of rotation periodically so that a time-periodic body forces produce the unsteady flows. In numerical computation, a parallel-computation technique with MPI is implemented. Flow visualization and PIV measurement are also performed to obtain velocity fields at the free surface. Through a series of numerical and experimental works, we aim to clarify, if any, the fundamental reasons \ulcornerf discrepancy between the two-dimensional computation and the experimental measurement, which was detected in the previous study for the same flow model. Specifically, we check if the various assumptions prerequisite for the validity of the classical Ekman pumping law are satisfied for periodic flows under a background rotation.

  • Animation and time-resolved analysis of the wake characteristics of 2-D bluff body flows were examinated by applying the multi-vision PIV to square cylinders(three angles of attack: $0^{circ}, 30^{circ} and 45^{\circ}$) and circular cylinders(three rotating speeds: 0rpm, 76rpm, 153rpm) submerged within a circulating water channel $(Re=10^4)$, The macroscopic shedding patterns and their dominant frequencies were discussed in terms of instantaneous velocity, vorticity and turbulent quantities such as turbulent intensity, turbulent kinetic energy and three Reynolds stresses. Particularly the time-averaged distribution of turbulent intensity 'islands' where their peak magnitudes were focused always small regions behind the bodies without noticeable spatial migration were particularly discovered in all cases. And the dominant frequencies of the turbulent quantities in the wake regions were two times larger than those of the velocity and vorticity.

  • For the balancing control of a one-wheel mobile robot, CMG (Control Moment Gyro) can be used as a gyroscopic actuator. Balancing control has to be done in the roll angle direction by an induced gyroscopic motion. Since the dedicated CMG cannot produce the rolling motion of the body directly, the yawing motion with the help of the frictional reaction can be used. The dynamic uncertainties including the chattering of the control input, disturbances, and vibration during the flipping control of the high rotating flywheel, however, cause ill effect on the balancing performance and even lead to the instability of the system. Fuzzy compensation is introduced as an auxiliary control method to prevent the robot from the failure due to leaning aside of the flywheel. Simulation studies are conducted to see the feasibility of the proposed control method. In addition, experimental studies are conducted for the verification of the proposed control.

  • Using the modified DEM (Discrete Element Method), which we proposed in order to improve the accuracy of the simulation, soil behavior and reaction by lugs of rotating wheel and a soil cutting process by a high speed blade were calculated and compared with experimental data. The DEM is one of computational mechanics, where the object body is supposed as an assembly of small particles called elements and not a continuum as in the case of FEM. We can easily treat some discrete phenomena such as cracking, separating and sliding by the DEM. We had to modify the original mechanical model, which induced too free movement of elements, adding a tension spring, which would display the role of soil adhesion. The results of DEM simulations were successful from both the soil behavior and reaction points of view.

  • Unlike conventional CT scan, the helical CT scan uses continuous rotating CT equipment with a slip ring to move the patient's coach at a constant speed while continuously scanning. Slice sensitivity profiles in the Z-position(SSPz) using the conventional X-ray CT have a shape similiar to a rectangular wave, which slightly spreads out into plains below the mountain. However, in the helical CT, with an expansion of the base, the rectangular shape collapses and a mouatain-like shape can be seen. We need to investigate the fellowing factors in helical CT scanning;the ability to scan along the axis of the body, effective slice width, slice shape and the precision of coach velocity, Helical scanning with sprial X-ray track is different from the conventional scanning in terms of the principle of image reconstruction performed. We believe that the problems in helical scanning can be solved by understanding new the special parameters such as the bed moving speed and the interval of image reconstruction.

  • An experimental apparatus for PIV performance evaluation has been developed. Stardard uncertainty of a two-dimensional cross-correlation PIV system was investigated based upon the standard experimental apparatus, which was devised to model the rigid body rotating flows. For the systematic analysis of the uncertainty introduced by each component (algorithm, CCD camera, frame grabber) of the PIV system, standard images are fed into the component independently. The standard experiments show that 53% of the uncertainty in the present PIV system results from the frame grabber but the errors from the algorithm and digital camera are ignorable.
