This paper evaluates the fire safety level of eight pump rooms in the nuclear power plant using a fire model, CFAST We estimate the Conditional Core Damage Probability (CCDP) of each room based on the analyzed results of CFAST Eight rooms located on the primary auxiliary building of the nuclear power plant are high pressure safety injection pump room A/B, low pressure safety injection pump room Am. containment sprdy pump room A/B, and motor-driven auxiliary feed water pump room A/B. The upper layer gas temperature of each room is estimated and the integrity of cable is reviewed. Based on the results, the integrity of the cable located at the upper part of compartment is maintained without thermal damage. The Conditional Core Damage Probability Is reduced to half of the old values. Accordingly, the fire safety assessment for eight pump rooms using the fire model will be capable of reducing the uncertainty and to develop a more realistic model.
The purpose of this study analyzes heat flows and fire behavior through a reduced-scale model experiments about change of wind velocity in underground life space. When the wind velocity is increased the temperature rise time of the fire room was risen fast. And temperature of fire room was increased. And increase of wind velocity displayed maximum temperature at an opening of the fire room. Heat flows by fire spread increase size of smoke occurrence and flame, and displayed high temperature distribution in passageway than inside of neighborhood department promoting eddy flow spread as wind velocity increases. Finally, heat flows are decided by wind and wind velocity at fire of underground life space, and Wind velocity increases, temperature increase and decrease could confirm that is gone fast.
Numerical simulations were carried out for a fire in a clean room to confirm needs of a smoke control system and a sprinkler system, and to investigate a possible smoke spread-out. For a 1 MW methanol fire in a space of $39m{\times}13m$ floor and 4 m high, smoke spread-out was scrutinized for failure of the sprinkler system and/or the smoke control system. It was shown that the smoke control system removes smoke safely without the sprinkler system and that the sprinkler system is required to suppress smoke generation and spread of the fire, and to remove the smoke quickly. It was also confirmed that highly reliable sprinkler heads and automatic fire detection system are required for the sprinkler and smoke control systems.
A room-corner fire scenario of ISO 9705 with flame spread model developed by Quintiere is applied to the interior finish materials to show the sensitivity of properties derived from AST, E-1321 and ASTM E-1354 is investigated and various range of thermal properties by the author were analyzed in the model. There are including flame heat flux and thermal inertia, lateral flame spread parameter, heat of combustion and effective heat of gasfication. The time for total energy release rate to reach 1MW is examined. Though some areas are neede for improvements, The model appears to predict good results with all the range of input properties and could be
This study intends to provide a model for the establishment of a rehabilitation room for the safety and rehabilitation of firefighters by proposing a basis for the establishment of a firefighter rehabilitation room at disaster sites. To achieve the research objectives, a questionnaire, frequency analysis, and variance analysis were conducted to assess the effectiveness of rehabilitation rooms for firefighters. Based on the results of the research, the policy suggestions for operating an effective rehabilitation room are as follows. An organization of the operation of the rehabilitation room should be established at each firefighting headquarters, and human resources must be secured for the operation of the rehabilitation room. In addition, detailed operating standards such as the operation contents of the rehabilitation room's operation manager and its operator, as well as its operation procedures should be prepared. Additionally, training to improve the rehabilitation room and its understanding is needed.
New examination of a predictive model for the ISO 9705 room-corner test have been m made for materials studied by L S Fire Laboratories, Italy. The ISO 9705 test subjects wall a and ceiling mounted materials to a comer ignition source of 100 kW for a duration of 10 m minutes; if flashover does not occur this is followed by 300 kW for another 10 minutes. The m materials that did not stay in place during combustion because of melting, dripping, or d distorting were simulated by an adjustment to the material's total available energy. For m mat려als that remain in place the simulation model appears to do well in its prl어ictions. A l large-s떠Ie room test results 뾰 compar벼 with the m여el’s prediction also.
Fires in operating rooms rarely occur. However, this type of disaster can complicate almost any surgical procedure. Fuel, heat and oxygen are related with fire outbreak. When ignition sources such as alcohol-based surgical preparation solutions are present, the risk of an operating room fire increases, and burns are more severe in such conditions. Many manufacturers recommend waiting at least three minutes after application to allow complete drying for reduce fire risk. There are a few studies regarding flame burns in the operation room, although most of these studies are related to preoperative skin preparation. However, alcohol containing solutions can be used occasionally for cleansing of the operation field after the surgery, therefore, the surgical team should pay attention to surgical fires, even if they have completed the operation successfully. We present our case of a post-operative flame burn and introduce some precautions that will reduce the risk of alcohol burns.
Reaction-to-fire performance of pipe insulation materials should be approved in accordance with KS standards prior to installing water-based suppression systems because several fire accidents are initiated from insulation materials around ceilings or concealed space. A small room test to evaluate the reaction-to-fire performance of the polyethylene foam and elastomeric pipe insulation materials was conducted according to ISO 20632. Different fire growth rate and heat release rate are observed depending on the materials and construction methods. In order to improve a fire safety, the reaction-to-fire performance of pipe insulation material needs to be subdivided with regard to the heat release rate and smoke generation. Furthermore, the characteristics of the applying space are also required to be considered. Subsidiary materials for installation process such as tape and adhesive are found to provide an adverse effect to maintain a fire safety.
In fire test, accurate heat release rate measurements provide important information to define the fire safety characteristics of products. The calculation of heat release rate depends on the errors of measuring parameters in experimental set-up. In this study, the uncertainty factors of heat release rate in the room corner test facility, which is installed at Korea Railroad Research Institute, were analyzed. Through the fire testings for the KTX interior materials, the uncertainties of heat release rate were calculated. Results showed that uncertainty was high in the initial stage of fire test and gradually decreased with the growth of fire. The oxygen concentration was a major factor contributing to the combined relative standard uncertainty.
A relationship between resisting moment and the structure of an automatic closure device is introduced for analyzing the effect of opening and closing condition on various fire door sizes in the pressurized room for smoke control system. The larger the size of fire door is, the more force is required for reaching to opening and closing conditions and there exists the design range of fire door in the pressurized room reflecting the closing time of fire door, rotative velocity, a relation between rotative angle and force and the efficiency of the automatic closure device.
