Development of probabilistic primary water stress corrosion cracking initiation model for alloy 182 welds considering thermal aging and cold work effects

  • We experimentally investigated the effects of thermal aging and cold work on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) initiation time for Alloy 182 welds. The effects of thermal aging and cold work on the PWSCC initiation time of Alloy 182 were modeled based on the plastic energy concept and the PWSCC initiation data of this study and previous reports by considering censored data. Based on the results, it is estimated that the PWSCC resistance of the Alloy 182 weld firstly increases and then decreases with thermal aging time when the applied stress is kept constant.

  • In order to improve wear and fatigue resistance of the structural materials, especially cold work roller for 304 stainless steel, an eco-super-finishing and surface hardening treatment using ultrasonic vibration energy was developed and applied to the SKD-ll roller. The eco-super-finishing machine was designed and fabricated by DesignMecha Co, by its own technology. It was observed that the surface roughness, hardness and residual stress were changed from $Ra{\;}={\;}O.25\mu\textrm{m}$, Hv=710 and ${\sigma}$={\;}+400{\;}MPa{\;}to{\;}Ra{\;}={\;}0.165\mu\textrm{m}$, Hv = 1200 and ${\sigma}=-610$ MPa after 20 KHz micro-cold forging, which means almost equal to the 300 % improvement of life-time.

3527/4343 알루미늄 클래드재의 인장 및 침식특성에 미치는 미세조직 제어의 영향 (Effect of Microstructure Control on the Tensile and Erosion Properties of 3527/4343 Aluminum Clad)

  • Aluminum clad sheets for brazing materials in the automotive heat exchangers are required to exhibit both high strength and excellent erosion resistance. In this study, the effects of microstructural changes on the property of clad sheets due to thermomechanical treatment were investigated. The clad sheets were fabricated by roll bonding of twin-roll-cast AA3527 and AA4343 alloys followed by cold rolling down to a thickness of 0.22mm. Partial or full annealing was conducted at the final thickness in order to improved the erosion resistance while keeping the proper strength. Since full annealing was achieved for a temperature of $400^{\circ}C$, annealing treatments were performed at 360, 380, and $400^{\circ}C$, respectively. The tensile strength of 3527/4343 clad material was found to be inversely proportional to the annealing temperature before the brazing heat treatment. After this latter treatment, however, the tensile strength of the clad material was about 195~200MPa regardless of the annealing temperature. The erosion depth ratio of the clad annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ was 8.8% (the lowest), while that of the clad annealed at $380^{\circ}C$ was 17% (the highest). The effect of annealing temperature on the tensile and erosion properties of 3527/4343 aluminum clad sheets was elucidated by means of microstructural analyses.

음향방출법에 의한 저항 점용접부의 파괴특성에 대한 연구 (Fracture Characteristics of the Resistance Spot Welded Joints by Acoustic Emission)

  • In this paper, the acoustic emission(AE) behaviors were investigated with single-and 2-spot resistance spot welded SPCC specimens. Test specimens were welded horizontally and/or vertically according to the rolling direction of base netal in 2-spot welding. In the case of 2-spot welding, when tensile-shear test has below amplitudes: crack initiation $50{\sim}60dB;$ tear fracture $40{\sim}50dB$. And when cross tensile test has below amplitudes: early stage $75{\sim}85dB;$ yielding point $65{\sim}75dB;$ post yielding $40{\sim}60dB;$ plug fracture $70{\sim}80dB\;or\;90{\sim}100dB$. Also, from the b-value that is slope of AE amplitude, we knew that there are lots of low amplitudes if b-value is big(i.e., tensile-shear $specimen{\rightarrow}tear$ fracture or shear fracture), and there are lots of high amplitudes if b-value is small(i.e.. cross tensile $specimen{\rightarrow}plug$ fracture). As the results of fiacture mechanism analyses through AE amplitude distributions, change of the b-value represented fracture patterns of materials. Correspondingly, low amplitude signals appeared in crack initiation, and high amplitude signals appeared in base metal fracture. We confirmed that these amplitude distributions represented the change or degradation of materials.

  • 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장의 예방적 유지보수방법 중 하나인 표면강화공법의 실내 성능 평가를 수행하였다. 표면강화공법과 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장과의 부착력 평가 결과 미끄럼방지 포장 및 교면방수재료 기준을 상회하는 부착성능을 나타내었다. 윤하중재하실험과 박리저항성, UV저항성 실험을 통해 교통 및 환경하중에 대해 충분한 내구성을 확보할 수 있는 것을 확인하였다. 표면강화공법은 내투수성과 내화학성이 뛰어나 포장내로 수분 침투를 막고 화학물질로부터 포장을 보호할 수 있으며, 노화된 아스팔트 바인더의 재생효과가 있어 재생 아스팔트 콘크리트에 적용하였을 때 재래식 가열 아스팔트 콘크리트 혼합물에 비하여 약 5%의 터프니스를 증가시켰다. 아스팔트 표면강화공법은 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장의 내구성을 향상시킬 수 있는 특성을 갖는 것으로 나타났다.

열간압연 클래드강의 맞대기용접부 내식성 및 용접성 평가 (Evaluation of Corrosion Resistance and Weldability for the Butt Welding Zone of Hot Rolled Clad Steel Plates)

  • We have investigated the traits of clad metals in hot-rolled clad steel plates, including the sensitization and mechanical properties of STS 316 steel plate and carbon steel (A516), under various specific circumstances regarding post heat treatment, multilayered welds, and thick or repeated welds for repair. For evaluations, sectioned weldments and external surfaces were investigated to reveal the degree of sensitization by micro vickers hardness, tensile, and etching tests the results were compared with those of EPR tests. The clad steel plates were butt-welded using FCAW and SAW with the time of heat treatment as the variable, a that was conducted at $625^{\circ}C$, for 80, 160, 320, 640, and 1280 min. Then, the change in corrosion resistance was evaluated in these specimens. With carbon steel (A516), as the heat treatment time increased, the annealing effect caused the tensile strength to decrease. The micro-hardness gradually increased and decreased after 640 min. The elongation and contraction of the area also increased gradually. The oxalic acid etch test and EPR test on STS316 and the clad metal showed STEP structure and no sensitization. From the test results on multi-layered and repair welds, it could be concluded that there is no effect on the corrosion resistance of clad metals. The purpose of this study was to suggest some considerations for developing on-site techniques to evaluate the sensitization of stainless steels.

중온화 첨가제(LEADCAP(R))를 사용한 중온 아스팔트 바인더의 특성 평가 (A Study of Performance Evaluation of Warm Asphalt Binder Properties using LEADCAP(R) additive)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 중온화 첨가제(LEADCAP$^{(R)}$)를 사용한 중온 아스팔트 바인더의 노화 방법에 따른 물성 변화 특성을 평가하고자 하였다. 아스팔트 바인더의 노화 거동을 모사하기 위해 단기노화인 RFTO를 실시하였으며, 햇빛에 의한 자연 노화 거동을 알아보기 위해 자외선 경화기를 이용하여 자외선에 의한 열화거동을 모사하였다. 이러한 열화 중온 아스팔트 바인더의 역학적인 물성과 유변동학적인 특성을 시험하기 위해서 만능시험기(UTM)과 동적전단유동기를 이용하여 직접인장력과 유변동학적인 거동을 평가하였다. 또한, 열분석 장비를 이용하여 온도에 따른 중온 아스팔트 바인더의 특성을 평가하여, 자외선 노출에 따른 열화가 발생하여도 온도에 따른 물성 변화가 많이 발생하지 않음을 발견하였다. $70^{\circ}C$에서 중온화 첨가제가 첨가한 단기노화 중온 아스팔트 바인더의 경우, PG 등급에서의 고온 등급의 기준값을 만족함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 저온에서 중온 아스팔트 바인더의 인장 특성을 평가한 결과, 인장강도 향상과 함께 인장력이 증가됨을 알 수 있었다.

0.04% Gd-이상 스테인레스 강의 부식 및 마모성에 대한 집합조직 효과 (Effect of Texture on the Corrosion and Wear Behaviors of 0.04% Gd-Duplex Stainless Steels)

  • 0.04% Gd-duplex stainless steels (Gd-DSTSs) for neutron absorbing materials were inert arc-melted and poured into a Y-shape block with the size of $100{\times}100{\times}20[mm]$. The Gd-DSTS was hot rolled at $1200^{\circ}C$ followed by cold rolling to have 33% reduction. The average grain sizes of the rolling (RD), transverse (TD) and short transverse (ST) directions were 6, 7, $11{\mu}m$, respectively. The micro-hardnesses of the RD, TD and ST directions were 258.5, 292.3, 314.7 $H_V$, respectively. Corrosion potential and corrosion rate of the cold rolled Gd-duplex stainless steel in aerated artificial sea water and 0.1M $H_2SO_4$ solution were $0.2216V_{SHE}$, $0.0106A/cm^2$, $-0.0825V_{SHE}$, $0.0168A/cm^2$ for RD, $0.2210V_{SHE}$, $0.0077A/cm^2$, $0.0817V_{SHE}$, $0.0092A/cm^2$ for TD, $0.1056V_{SHE}$, $0.0059A/cm^2$, $0.0475V_{SHE}$, $0.0069A/cm^2$ for ST, respectively. The corrosion behavior depended on the texture, which were due to mainly grain boundary and minorly crystallographic texture. Friction coefficient and wear resistance were 2.07 and 0.48 mm, respectively.

승용차 자동변속기용 테이퍼 롤러 베어링의 효율개선 연구 (A Study on Efficiency of Tapered Roller Bearing for an Automatic Transmission)

  • Automotive fuel efficiency regulations and air pollution control are hot issues of recent years in the automotive industry. To solve these regulation problems, many studies are continuing to improve the transmission efficiency of transmissions. Tapered roller bearings are useful to improve the transmission efficiency in the recent automobile parts. The frictional losses in the tapered roller bearings are mainly composed of the rolling friction and the sliding friction, and are dependent upon the load, the lubrication, the rotation speed of bearings, and etc. In this paper, the operating conditions of the transmission are defined and then the power losses of each bearing are calculated. In addition, improvement options are suggested after identifying the design factors influenced much by the improvement effect of power loss under the operating conditions of each bearing. We compare the power losses of the entire transmission system due to bearing improvements by comparing the friction losses between the original design and the improved design. Lastly, it is shown that the calculated power losses are valid by comparing the test values and the theoretical values for the frictional torque characteristics of the original and improved bearings.

Extending the OPRCB Seismic isolation system's governing equations of motion to 3D state and its application in multi-story buildings

  • Orthogonal pairs of rollers on concave beds (OPRCB) are a low-cost, low-tech rolling-based isolating system, whose high efficiency has been shown in a previous study. However, seismic performance of OPRCB isolators has only been studied in the two-dimensional (2D) state so far. This is while their performance in the three-dimensional (3D) state differs from that of the 2D state, mainly since the vertical accelerations due to rollers' motion in their beds, simultaneously in two orthogonal horizontal directions, are added up and resulting in bigger vertical inertia forces and higher rolling resistance. In this study, first, Lagrange equations were used to derive the governing equations of motion of the OPRCB-isolated buildings in 3D. Then, some regular shear-type OPRCB-isolated buildings were considered subjected to three-component excitations of far- and near-source earthquakes, and their responses were compared to those of their fixed-base counterparts. Finally, the effects of more realistic modeling and analysis were examined by comparing the responses of isolated buildings in 2D and 3D states. Response histories were obtained by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta-Nystrom method, considering the geometrical nonlinearity of isolators. Results reveal that utilizing the OPRCB isolators effectively reduces the acceleration response, however, depending on the system specifications and earthquake characteristics, the maximum responses of isolated buildings in the 3D state can be up to 40% higher than those in the 2D state.
