Superwarfarin, such as brodifacoum, is a highly lethal vitamin K antagonist used as a rodenticide. Brodifacoum has a particularly long half-life in the body, which ranges to several months, and therefore requires prolonged treatment with antidotal vitamin K. We experienced a case whereby an 18-year-old male was presented to the hospital with a severe bleeding disorder. It was discovered that he had ingested brodifacoum rodenticide with intent to commit suicide. Despite continual treatment with vitamin K, the bleeding disorder persisted for several months before he recovered. We report this case with literature review.

Microanalysis of rodenticide by visible absorption method was attempted. The following procedure was found to be very simple and to give accurate results. RH-28787 was added to dimethylformamide (DMF), and extracted after stirring for about 20 minutes in extractor $(30^{\circ}C)$. After extraction, the absorbance of DMF solution, was measured at 346 nm by using spectrophotometer. The result agrees closely with the experimentally determined value by means of the gas chromatograph.

미국에서 농약을 판매하기 위해서는 먼저 해당농약을 등록하여야 하는데 등록업무는 연방 살충$\cdot$살균$\cdot$살서제법(FIFRA : Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act)에 의거, USDA(미농무성)에서 관장했으나 1970년 12월 이후부터 신설된 EPA(환경보호청)가 맡고 있다. 여기에 소개하는 내용은 Farm Chemicals Handbook 최근호(''98)의 부록(regulatory file)에 수록된 미국농약관리법중이 주요 내용이며 우리나라의 농약안전관리와 신농약개발 업무에 직$\cdot$간접으로 관계되는 모든 분들에게 참고가 되었으면 하는 바람으로 호에 걸쳐 소개한다.

An anticoagulant, 4-hydroxy-3-[1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydro-3-[4-(4-trifluoromethylbenzyloxy)phenyll-1 -naphthyl]coumarin (Flocoumafen) was synthesized in 8 steps starting from phenylacetyl shloride and anisole. The key step in the synthesis involves the reaction of 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-teralol with 4-hydroxycoumarin to give 4-hydroxy-3 [1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydro-3-[4-emthoxyphenyl]-1-naphthyl]coumarin.

Bromadiolone (BRD), a second generation anticoagulant often applied to the living environment to control rodents, is usually considered to have low environmental toxicity due to its poor solubility in water. In this study of the effect of humic acid (HA) on BRD using electronic absorption spectroscopy, it has been observed that BRD is appreciably solubilized even in low concentrations of aqueous HA solutions. The BRD solubilization efficiency of aqueous HA was found to be $2.39{\pm}0.14$ ($4.53{\pm}0.26{\mu}M\;ppm^{-1}$). It was also seen that BRD is reasonably solubilized in aqueous extract of farm soil.

An efficient procedure for the preparation of 4-hydroxy-3-{1,2,3,4-tetra-hydro-3-[4-(4-trifluoromethylbenzyloxy)phenyl]-1-naphthyl}thiocoumarin (thioflocoumafen, 1a and 1b) is described. The key step in the synthesis involves the condensation reaction of 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-tetralol (2) with 4-hydroxy-1-thiocoumarin (3).

A spayed female English sheepdog, 4-year-old 18.2 kg, wat referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Konkuk University due to the 4-day duration of epistaxis and dyspnea. Ingestion of anticoagulant rodenticides can inhibit the recycling of vitamin $K_1$, which reduce the activity of circulating clotting factors. If immediate and appropriate treatment doesn't perform, it may result in depression or death through severe hemorrhage. This report present successful treatment of a 4-year-old spayed female dog with stupor and opisthotonos. Efficient treatment of whole blood transfusion and vitamin $K_1$ improved clinical signs dramatically. The patient is recovered following treatment and healthy now.
