Construction automation and robotics are being introduced as an efficient alternative to overcome troubles caused by lack of skilled labors. To accomplish effective automated construction system, design for automation(DFA) should be performed in parallel with the development of core technologies such as control and sensing of robots. In Korea, the development of robotic crane-based construction automation(RCA) system is progressing, and the research group has recently developed newly designed steel joint to improve the efficiency of the system. However, performance of the new system should be examined prior to its application on construction sites. Therefore, This study analyzed performance of the new steel frame focused on its constructibility by carrying out mock-up test. As a result, the steel frame satisfied the standards of allowable stress and deflection. It also enables to reduce the time for installation.

Automation in construction has been restricted to special classes of tasks. Curtain walls can be handled like standard construction materials; they are heavy but breakable, and are large but require precise installation. These characteristics make the installation of curtain walls ideal for robotic automation. There are two methods for developing construction robots: The first is approving the robot performance and applying it to the current construction methods. The second is admitting the limitation of the current robot technology and trying to optimize the current method of construction to apply the robot system. In this study, we derived the performance requirements of a curtain wall-installation robot. We also tested this robot at a real construction site and evaluated its performance. Finally, the results were analyzed, and we proposed additional research.

The goal of this work is to develop and test a robot-assisted surgery system for spinal fusion. The system is composed of a robot, a surgical planning system, and a navigation system. It plays the role of assisting surgeons for inserting a pedicle screw in the spinal fusion procedure. Compared to conventional methods for spinal fusion, the proposed surgical procedure ensures minimum invasion and better accuracy by using robot and image information. The robot plays the role of positioning and guiding needles, drills, and other surgical instruments or conducts automatic boring and screwing. Pre-operative CT images intra-operative fluoroscopic images are integrated to provide the surgeon with information for surgical planning. Some experiments employing the developed robotic surgery system are conducted. The experimental results confirm that the system is not only able to guide the surgical tools by accurately pointing and orienting the specified location, but also successfully compensate the movement of the patient due to respiration.
A doll created by various materials is a miniature based on human model, and it has been one of components in a puppet show to take some responsibility for human's culture activity. However, demand and supply keeps on the decrease in the puppet show industry, since professional puppeteer has been reduced rapidly, and also it is difficult to initiate into the skill. Therefore, many studies related Robotic Marionette for automation of puppet show have been internationally accompanied, and more efficient structure design and process development are required for better movement and express of puppet with motor based controller. In this research, we suggest the effective way to enable to express the marionette's motion using motion data based on motion capture and 3D graphic program, and through applying of 3D motion data and proposal of simulation process, it will be useful to save time and expenses when the Robotic Marionette System is practically built.
Most recently, CP(Cellular Phone) has been one of the most important technologies in the IT(Information Tech-nology) field, and it is situated in a position of great importance industrially and economically. To produce the best CP in the world, a new technological concept and its advanced implementation technique is required, due to the extreme level of competition in the world market. The RT(Robot Technology) has been developed as the next generation of a future technology. Current robots require advanced technology, such as soft computing, human-friendly interface, interaction technique, speech recognition, object recognition etc. unlike the industrial robots of the past. Therefore, this paper explains conceptual research for development of the RCP(Robotic Cellular Phone), a new technological concept, in which a synergy effect is generated by the merging of IT & RT. RCP infra consists of $RCP^{Mobility}$$RCP^{Interaction}$, $RCP^{Integration}$ technologies. For $RCP^{Mobility}$, human-friendly motion automation and personal service with walking and arming ability are developed. $RCP^{Interaction}$ ability is achieved by modeling an emotion-generating engine and $RCP^{Integration}$ that recognizes environmental and self conditions is developed. By joining intelligent algorithms and CP communication network with the three base modules, a RCP system is constructed. Especially, the RCP mobility system is focused in this paper. $RCP^{Mobility}$ is to apply a mobility technology, which is popular robot technology, to CP and combine human-friendly motion and navigation function to CP. It develops a new technological application system of auto-charging and real-world entertainment function etc. This technology can make a CP companion pet robot. It is an automation of human-friendly motions such as opening and closing of CPs, rotation of antenna, manipulation and wheel-walking. It's target is the implementation of wheel and manipulator functions that can give service to humans with human-friendly motion. So, this paper presents the definition, the basic theory and experiment results of the RCP mobility system. We confirm a good performance of the RCP mobility system through the experiment results.
This study aims to enhance the price and quality competitiveness of imported tiles by developing a robotic tile production automation line. The development process involved several steps, such as requirement analysis, derivation of technical specifications, conceptual design, engineering feasibility review, detailed design, and production. Emphasis was placed on the transfer process of the tiles' molds, and technological advancements were achieved through engineering interpretation, feasibility review, and performance evaluation. The developed automation system incorporates key specifications to ensure a transfer success rate of over 90%, thereby ensuring stable transportation of the tiles and minimizing defect rates during production. The maximum weight capacity for tile pick-up was set above 6 kg, allowing effective handling of tiles weighing 6 kg or less in automated tasks. Furthermore, the system enables safe and precise movement of the tiles to the desired location, with a transfer distance of at least 1.3 m and a transfer speed exceeding 0.2 m/sec, thereby increasing production efficiency.
This keynote presentation covers the subject of intelligent systems development for monitoring and control in various NASA space applications. Similar intelligent systems technology also has applications in terrestrial commercial applications. Discussion will be given of the general approach of intelligent systems and description given of intelligent systems under prototype development for possible use in Space Shuttle Upgrade, in the Experimental Crew Return. Vehicle, and in free-flying space robotic cameras to provide autonomy to these spacecraft with flexible human intervention, if desired or needed. Development of intelligent system monitoring and control for regenerative life support subsystems such as NASA's human rated Bio-PLEX test facility is also described. A video showing two recent world's firsts in real-time vision-guided robotic arm and hand grasping of tumbling and translating complex shaped objects in micro-gravity will also be shown.

In this paper, it is presents a new approach to the design of neural control system using digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness. Robotic manipulators have become increasingly important in the field of flexible automation. High speed and high-precision trajectory tracking are indispensable capabilities for their versatile application. The need to meet demanding control requirement in increasingly complex dynamical control systems under significant uncertainties, leads toward design of intelligent manipulation robots. The TMS320C3x is used in implementing real time neural control to provide an enhanced motion control for robotic manipulators. In this control scheme, the networks introduced are neural nets with dynamic neurons, whose dynamics are distributed over all the network nodes. The nets are trained by the distributed dynamic back propagation algorithm. The proposed neural network control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, andsuitable for implementation of robust control.
