Implementation of the SLAM System Using a Single Vision and Distance Sensors (단일 영상과 거리센서를 이용한 SLAM시스템 구현)

  • SLAM(Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) system is to find a global position and build a map with sensing data when an unmanned-robot navigates an unknown environment. Two kinds of system were developed. One is used distance measurement sensors such as an ultra sonic and a laser sensor. The other is used stereo vision system. The distance measurement SLAM with sensors has low computing time and low cost, but precision of system can be somewhat worse by measurement error or non-linearity of the sensor In contrast, stereo vision system can accurately measure the 3D space area, but it needs high-end system for complex calculation and it is an expensive tool. In this paper, we implement the SLAM system using a single camera image and a PSD sensors. It detects obstacles from the front PSD sensor and then perceive size and feature of the obstacles by image processing. The probability SLAM was implemented using the data of sensor and image and we verify the performance of the system by real experiment.

Improvement Segmentation Method of Medical Images using Volume Data (의료영상에서 볼륨 데이터를 이용한 분할개선 기법)

  • Medical image segmentation is an image processing technology prior to performing various medical image processing. Therefore, a variety of methods have been researched for fast and accurate medical image segmentation. Accurate judgment of segmentation region is needed to segment the interest region in which patient requested in medical image that various organs exist. However, an case that scanned a part of organs is small occurs. In this case, information to determine the segmentation region is lack. consequently, a removal of segmentation region occurs during the segmentation process. In this paper, we improved segmentation results in a small region using volume data and linear equation. In order to verify the performance of the proposed method, we segmented the lung region of chest CT images. As a result of experiments, we confirmed that image segmentation accuracy rose from 0.978 to 0.981 and standard deviation also improved from 0.281 to 0.187.

Hand Gesture Recognition using Multivariate Fuzzy Decision Tree and User Adaptation (다변량 퍼지 의사결정트리와 사용자 적응을 이용한 손동작 인식)

  • While increasing demand of the service for the disabled and the elderly people, assistive technologies have been developed rapidly. The natural signal of human such as voice or gesture has been applied to the system for assisting the disabled and the elderly people. As an example of such kind of human robot interface, the Soft Remote Control System has been developed by HWRS-ERC in $KAIST^[1]$. This system is a vision-based hand gesture recognition system for controlling home appliances such as television, lamp and curtain. One of the most important technologies of the system is the hand gesture recognition algorithm. The frequently occurred problems which lower the recognition rate of hand gesture are inter-person variation and intra-person variation. Intra-person variation can be handled by inducing fuzzy concept. In this paper, we propose multivariate fuzzy decision tree(MFDT) learning and classification algorithm for hand motion recognition. To recognize hand gesture of a new user, the most proper recognition model among several well trained models is selected using model selection algorithm and incrementally adapted to the user's hand gesture. For the general performance of MFDT as a classifier, we show classification rate using the benchmark data of the UCI repository. For the performance of hand gesture recognition, we tested using hand gesture data which is collected from 10 people for 15 days. The experimental results show that the classification and user adaptation performance of proposed algorithm is better than general fuzzy decision tree.

Prediction of Assistance Force for Opening/Closing of Automobile Door Using Support Vector Machine (서포트 벡터 머신을 이용한 차량도어의 개폐 보조력 예측)

  • We developed a prediction model of assistance force for the opening/closing of an automobile door depending on the condition of the parking ground. The candidates of the learning models for the operating assistance force were compared to determine the proper force according to the slope and user's force, etc. The reduced experimental model was developed to obtain learning data for the estimation model. The learning algorithm was composed to predict the assistance force to incorporate real assistance force data. Among these algorithms, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Support Vector Machine(SVM) were applied and the adaptability was compared between these models. The SVM provided more adaptability for the learning process of the door assistance force prediction. This paper proposes a system for determining the assistance force to control a door motor to compensate for the deviation of required door force in the slope condition, as needed in the plane condition.

Noise Removal Algorithm based on Fuzzy Membership Function in AWGN Environments (AWGN 환경에서 퍼지 멤버십 함수에 기반한 잡음 제거 알고리즘)

  • With the development of IoT technology, various digital equipment is being spread, and accordingly, the importance of data processing is increasing. The importance of data processing is increasing as it greatly affects the reliability of equipment, and various studies are being conducted. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to remove AWGN according to the characteristics of the fuzzy membership function. The proposed algorithm calculates the estimated value according to the correlation between the value of the fuzzy membership function between the input image and the pixel value inside the filtering mask, and obtains the final output by adding or subtracting the output of the spatial weight filter. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, it was simulated with existing AWGN removal algorithms, and analyzed using difference image and PSNR comparison. The proposed algorithm minimizes the effect of noise, preserves the important characteristics of the image, and shows the performance of efficiently removing noise.

GPS-based monitoring and modeling of the ionosphere and its applications for high accuracy correction in China

  • The main research conducted previously on GPS ionosphere in China is first introduced. Besides, the current investigations include as follows: (1) GPS-based spatial environmental, especially the ionosphere, monitoring, modeling and analysis, including ground/space-based GPS ionosphere electron density (IED) through occultation/tomography technologies with GPS data from global/regional network, development of a GNSS-based platform for imaging ionosphere and atmosphere (GPFIIA), and preliminary test results through performing the first 3D imaging for the IED over China, (2) The atmospheric and ionospheric modeling for GPS-based surveying, navigation and orbit determination, involving high precisely ionospheric TEC modeling for phase-based long/median range network RTK system for achieving CM-level real time positioning, next generation GNSS broadcast ionospheric time-delay algorithm required for higher correction accuracy, and orbit determination for Low-Earth-orbiter satellites using single frequency GPS receivers, and (3) Research products in applications for national significant projects: GPS-based ionospheric effects modeling for precise positioning and orbit determination applied to China's manned space-engineering, including spatial robot navigation and control and international space station intersection and docking required for related national significant projects.

Usability Study of the Elderly Women Using Indoor Driving and Elevating Electric Wheelchairs (실내 주행 및 승강 전동 휠체어를 이용하는 고령 여성의 사용성 연구)

  • This study was undertaken to address the difficulties and inconveniences of an electric wheelchair. We focused on improving usability of initially completed products by augmenting the prototypes designed in the previous study. For evaluation of usability, 10 elderly women aged over 65 years, capable of movements and physical activities in daily life, were enrolled as subjects. The experimental method included a subjective satisfaction questionnaire evaluation of the elderly women using the target product, and the observation evaluation was achieved using video recording data, etc. Usability evaluation revealed that the elevating sector requires improvement of intuition through separation of the elevating control panel and the driving control panel. Improvements in the driving sector include corrections of the front wheel mechanism or driving control algorithm, UI, and sudden stop system. Transferring section assessment revealed a necessity to secure structures and add structures that support power. We believe that based on the inconveniences and improvements presented in the usability evaluation, appending the existing prototype with complementary products will improve the quality of life of elderly women with limited mobility.

Grading of Harvested 'Mihwang' Peach Maturity with Convolutional Neural Network (합성곱 신경망을 이용한 '미황' 복숭아 과실의 성숙도 분류)

  • This study was conducted using deep learning technology to classify for 'Mihwang' peach maturity with RGB images and fruit quality attributes during fruit development and maturation periods. The 730 images of peach were used in the training data set and validation data set at a ratio of 8:2. The remains of 170 images were used to test the deep learning models. In this study, among the fruit quality attributes, firmness, Hue value, and a* value were adapted to the index with maturity classification, such as immature, mature, and over mature fruit. This study used the CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks) models for image classification; VGG16 and InceptionV3 of GoogLeNet. The performance results show 87.1% and 83.6% with Hue left value in VGG16 and InceptionV3, respectively. In contrast, the performance results show 72.2% and 76.9% with firmness in VGG16 and InceptionV3, respectively. The loss rate shows 54.3% and 62.1% with firmness in VGG16 and InceptionV3, respectively. It considers increasing for adapting a field utilization with firmness index in peach.

Design and Analysis of Transmission Parameters for DH(Dog-Horse) Systems Based on IEEE802.16e (WiBro) (견마로봇 시스템의 상향링크 고속신호 전송을 위한 시스템 WiBro(IEEE802.16e) 통신변수 설계 및 분석)

  • This paper presents transmission parameters of DH(Dog-Horse) systems based on IEEE802.16e(WiBro) systems. DH requires higher uplink multimedia data rate, which is different from commercial WiBro systems. This paper designes some transmission parameters satisfying the DH system requirements and demonstrates link performance evaluation based on the parameters. For the transmission parameters, the number dwon/up link OFDM symbols are determined by 6/30, respectively. For reliable transmission of control signals, downlink modulation and coding rate are selected by QPSK, 1/2 coding rate and that of uplink is chosen by 16QAM 1/2 and 3/4 coding rate. Based on these parameters, computer simulations demonstrate the system performance of DH system.

Application Status and Prospects of CNC-Based Technologies in Gas Turbine Industry (가스터빈 산업에서의 CNC 기반기술 응용현황 및 전망)

  • The three-dimensional complex curvature of the airfoil complicates the manufacture and repair of gas-turbine components. As a result of the developments in computer technology since the early 1990s, CNC-based technologies for machine tools and related programs have been increasingly applied in the gas turbine industry. In particular, fiveaxis simultaneous machines with adaptive functions have proven its excellent flexibility and productivity due to the capability in determining the 3D data from the unknown curvature. A well-organized robot system with eight-axis simultaneous control can lead to powerful standardization and high productivity. We summarize and review CNC technologies and their applications in the gas turbine industry, with a discussion of the manufacture and repair of gas turbine parts.
