Changes of Volatile Flavor Components on Roasting Conditions in Cassia tora Seeds (결명자 종실의 볶음조건에 따른 향기성분 변화)

  • This study was conducted to investigated the change of volatile flavor components of Cassia tora seeds during roasting treatments. The flavor components of Cassia tora seeds were analyzed by gas chromatography(GC) and combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC/MS). Among the flavor compounds collected by simultaneous steam distillation and extraction(SDE) method, 38 components were separated and identified. They consisted of 3 pyrazines, 4 pyrroles or pyridine, 4 alcohols, 11 aldehydes or ketones, 9 furans or phenols and 7 others. The flavor compounds collected from unroasted Cassia tora seeds were 7 components. During roasting process, many other flavor components were formed and increased in their contents. The contents of pyrazines and furans were highest and increased conspicuously, whereas, the contents of aldehydes, ketones, alcohols and pyridines were not increased significantly.

Recovery of Gallium and Indium from Waste Light Emitting Diodes

  • Recovery of gallium and indium from waste light emitting diodes has been emphasized gradually owing to high content of gallium and indium. This study was established the recovery of gallium (Ga3+) and indium (In3+) from waste gallium nitride was contained in waste light-emitting diodes. The procedure was divided into the following steps; characteristic analysis, alkaline roasting, and leaching. In characteristic analysis part, the results were used as a theoretical basis for the acid leaching part, and the chemical composition of waste light emitting diodes is 70.32% Ga, 5.31% Si, 2.27% Al and 2.07% In. Secondly, with reduction of non-metallic components by alkaline roasting, gallium nitride was reacted into sodium gallium oxide, in this section, the optimal condition of alkaline roasting is that the furnace was soaked at 900℃ for 3 hours with mixing Na2CO3. Next, leaching of waste light emitting diodes was extremely important in the process of recovery of gallium and indium. The result of leaching efficiency was investigated on the optimal condition accounting for the acid agent, concentration of acid, the ratio of liquid and solid, and reaction time. The optimal condition of leaching procedures was carried out for 2.0M of HCl liquid-solid mass ratio of 30 ml/g in 32minutes at 25℃ and about 96.88% Ga and 96.61% In were leached.

APPLICATION OF DISCRETE EVENT SIMULATION TO PRODUCTION SCHEDULING (이산적 시뮬레이션 모델을 이용한 생산 스케쥴)

  • This article describes the application of discrete event simulation in a process industry (coffee manufacturing) as a daily production-scheduling tool. A large number of end products (around 300), sporadic demand, and limited shelf life of coffee (90 days) make it difficult to generate feasible production schedules manually. To solve this problem, an integrated system was developed incorporating discrete event simulation methodology into scheduling process. The integrated system is comprised of two components: a scheduling program and a simulation model. The scheduling program is used to generate daily schedules for roasting, grinding, and packing coffee. The simulation model uses the generated schedules to simulate the production of coffee and regenerates a modified production schedule. In this paper, each of the components will be described in detail, evaluated in terms of performance factors, and validated with a set of real production data. Although this article focuses on a specific system, we will share our experiences and Intuitions gained and encourage other process industries to develop simulation-based scheduling tools.

  • The analysis of the change in the herbal tea composition according to the difference in processing conditions result. Was slightly reduced crude is treated ash puffing process was relatively increased, moisture, crude protein, the solid elution rate than the roasting process. Benzopyrene content was significantly reduced to 0.18 ppb from 0.35 ppb. Generation of food $B({\alpha})P$ is mainly include the thermal decomposition of food cooking, when the processing which is a main component of food carbohydrate, protein, fat reason despite severe heat treatment as a whole is to be detected even though the $B({\alpha})P$ in this way is considered to be. Generally the taste, aroma and color did not show a big difference but tasted quite stuffy and the strong sour taste reduced its preference.

Influence of Cooking on Nutrient Composition in Provitamin A- Biofortified Rice (가열조리가 프로비타민 A 강화 쌀의 영양성분에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different cooking methods on the nutrient composition of genetically modified (GM) provitamin A(PA)-biofortified rice. PA-biofortified rice was subjected to different cooking methods, namely boiling and a soaking, steaming and roasting process. The proximate components (starch, protein, lipid and ash) of raw PA-biofortified rice were similar to those found in the parental non-GM rice, and were not significantly affected by a conventional boiling treatment. When compared with raw rice, boiled PA-biofortified rice showed a similar nutrient composition, despite a slight reduction in a majority of its amino acid contents. However, the PA-biofortified rice that underwent the soaking/steaming/roasting process exhibited a significant reduction in a majority of its amino acids and mineral contents. This procedure also led to a significant reduction in carotenoid contents. The overall results of this study demonstrate that using a conventional boiling method for PA-biofortified rice retains nutrients better than a soaking/steaming/roasting method.

A Study on the Separation and Recovery of Useful Metallic Elements(Zn, Pb) from the 2nd Dust in Refining of Crude-Zinc Oxide (조산화아연의 정제과정에서 발생된 2차분진으로부터 유용금속원소(Zn, Pb)의 분리회수에 관한 연구)

  • Electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) contains compounds, such as oxides and chlorides, including large quantities of Zn, Pb and Fe. An efficient and stable method for the extraction of metal elements from EAFD is the Rotary Kiln Process. This method is used to recover Zn in the form of crude ZnO (approximately 60%) via the addition of a reducing agent (coke, anthracite) and limestone (for basicity control) to EAFD. This process is commonly used in industry as well as in research and development. Currently, this method is used in many Korean commercial plants, producing approximately 150,000 tons of Crude ZnO per year. The majority of Zn is found in crude ZnO (approximately 76%). In addition components such as Pb, Cd, Sn, In, Fe, Cl, and F are present as oxides, chlorides, and alkaline compounds. This elements have an adverse effect on the zinc smelting process. Therefore, a refining process that eliminates these impurities is essential. In this study, we developed a process technology that efficiently separates Zn and Pb from byproducts (mainly chlorides). A bag filter was used to collect Zn and Pb generated during the dry purification process of crude ZnO. Pure components were recovered as metals or metal carbonate.

Herb-Processing Methods for Ginkgo Folium (백과엽(白果葉)(은행잎)의 포제법에 대한 제언(提言))

  • Objectives : This study was designed to propose the effective herb-processing method of Ginkgo Folium in the Oriental medicine. Methods : The books, papers and patents were used to examine the recent usage of Ginkgo Folium. Results : The toxic ingredients of Ginkgo Folium should be removed. Accordingly, a detoxification process using a nonpolar solvent and a vinegar-roasting process in sequence are desirable to assure its safety. The previously developed standard extract (e.g. EGb 761) could be used as a powdered Oriental medicine as well. Conclusions : Ginkgo Folium could not be used widely to treat the diseases in ancient Oriental medicine, because the toxic ingredients could not be removed by any method until recent year. However, Ginkgo Folium might be used as a herbal medicine that invigorates the blood without any difficulty using herb-processing methods suggested in this paper.
