An optimal control approach to robust control design is proposed in this study for rigid robotic systems under the unknown load and the other uncertainties. The uncertainties are quadratically bounded for some positive definite matrix. Iterative method to find the matrix is shown. This paper presents a new control strategy for the position and force control of flexible manipulators. The governing equation of motion of a two-link flexible manipulator which features piezoceramic actuators bonded on each flexible beam is derived via Hamilton's principle. The control torque of the motor to command desired position and force is determined by a sliding mode controller on the basis of the rigid-mode dynamics. In the controller formulation, the sliding mode controller with perturbation estimation(SMCPE) is adopted to determine appropriate control gains. The SMCPE is then incorporated with the fuzzy technique to mitigate inherent chattering problem while maintaining the stability of the system. A set of fuzzy parameters and control rules are obtained from a relation between estimated perturbation and actual perturbation. During the commanded motion, undesirable oscillation is actively suppressed by applying feedback control voltages to the piezoceramic actuators. These feedback voltages are also determined by the SMCPE. Consequently, accurate force and position control of a two-link flexible manipulator are achieved. Computer simulations are undertaken in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control methodology.
This paper presents a hybrid actuator scheme to actively control the end-point position and vibration of a two-link flexible robot arm. Control scheme consists of four different actuators; two servo-motors at the hubs and two piezoceramics bonded to the surfaces of the flexible links. Two sliding hyperplanes are designed for two servo-motors which have time varying parameters to maintain control performance in any configuration. The surface gradients of the hyperplanes are determined by pole assignment technique to guarantee the stability on the hyperplanes themselves. During the motion, undesirable oscillations caused by the torques based on the rigid link dynamics are actively suppressed by applying feedback control voltages to the piezoceramic actuators. Consequently, desired tip motion is achieved. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, experiments are performed for the regulating and tracking control problems.
In this paper, an improved integral variable structure regulation controller is designed by using a special integral sliding surface and a disturbance observer for the improved regulation control of highly nonlinear rigid robot manipulators with prescribed output performance. The sliding surface having the integral state with a special initial condition is employed in this paper to exactly predetermine the ideal sliding trajectory from a given initial condition to the desired reference without any reaching phase. And a continuous sliding mode input using the disturbance observer is also introduced in order to effectively follow the predetermined sliding trajectory within the prescribed accuracy without large computation burden. The performance of the prescribed tracking accuracy to the predetermined sliding trajectory is clearly investigated in detail through the two theorems, together with the closed loop stability. The design of the proposed regulation controller is separated into the performance design and robustness design in each independent link. The usefulness of the algorithm has been demonstrated through simulation studies on the regulation control of a two-link robot under parameter uncertainties and payload variations.
This paper presents stabilization and adaptive control of flexible single link robot manipulator system by self-recurrent neural networks that is one of the neural networks and is effective in nonlinear control. The architecture of neural networks is a modified model of self-recurrent structure which has a hidden layer. The self-recurrent neural networks can be used to approximate any continuous function to any desired degree of accuracy and the weights are updated by feedback-error learning algorithm. When a flexible manipulator is rotated by a motor through the fixed end, transverse vibration may occur. The motor toroque should be controlled in such a way that the motor rotates by a specified angle, while simultaneously stabilizing vibration of the flexible manipuators so that it is arresed as soon as possible at the end of rotation. Accurate vibration control of lightweight manipulator during the large changes in configuration common to robotic tasks requires dynamic models that describe both the rigid body motions, as well as the flexural vibrations. Therefore, a dynamic models for a flexible single link robot manipulator is derived, and then a comparative analysis was made with linear controller through an simulation and experiment. The results are proesented to illustrate thd advantages and imporved performance of the proposed adaptive control ove the conventional linear controller.
In this paper, we propose an optimal design for starfish capturing manipulator module with four-bar linkage mechanism. A tool link with compliance is attached on the four-bar linkage, and the tool repeats detaching starfish from the ground and putting it into the storage box. Since the tool is not rigid and the manipulator is operating underwater, the trajectory of the tool tip is determined by its dynamics as well as kinematics. We analyzed the trajectory of the manipulator tool tip by quasi-static analysis considering both kinematics and dynamics. In optimization, the lengths of each link and the tool stiffness are considered as control variables. To maximize the capturing ability, capturing stroke of the four-bar manipulator trajectory is maximized. Reaction force and reaction moment, and other kinematic constraints were considered as inequality constraints.
In common structural systems, there are some limitations to provide adequate lateral stiffness, high ductility, and architectural openings simultaneously. Consequently, the concept of T-Resisting Frame (TRF) has been introduced to improve the performance of structures. In this study, Configuration of TRF is a Vertical I-shaped Plate Girder (V.P.G) which is placed in the middle of the span and connected to side columns by two Horizontal Plate Girders (H.P.Gs) at each story level. System performance is improved by utilizing rigid connections in link beams (H.P.Gs). Plastic deformation leads to tension field action in H.P.Gs and causes energy dissipation in TRF; therefore, V.P.G. High plastic deformation in web of TRF's members affects the ductility of system. Moreover, in order to prevent shear buckling in web of TRF's members and improve overall performance of the system, appropriate criteria for placement of web stiffeners are presented in this study. In addition, an experimental study is conducted by applying cyclic loading and using finite element models. As a result, hysteresis curves indicate adequate lateral stiffness, stable hysteretic behavior, and high ductility factor of 6.73.
