The objective of this study was to determine the optimal conditions for preparation of cooked brown rice by blending brown rice, white rice and glutinous rice to improve the palatability. Formulations composed of brown rice (10~100%), white rice (0~90%) and glutinous rice (0~90%) were generated from an extreme-vertices of mixture experimental design, which showed ten experimental points for brown rice, with white rice and glutinous rice as the independent variables. The sensory evaluation, color, and texture profile analysis (TPA) of cooked brown rice and pasting characteristics of blending cereals flour were measured as response variables. Regression analysis showed that all responsible variables fit linear, quadratic or special cubic models (p<0.1), except for the cohesiveness of TPA. The goals of optimization of the blending ratio of brown rice, white rice and glutinous rice were given as appearance, flavor, texture and overall acceptability (lower: 5.50, target: 6.62). The optimal conditions were determined to be 34.55% brown rice, 42.71% white rice and 22.74% glutinous rice.
In GMAW processes, bead geometry is a criterion to estimate welding quality. Bead geometry is affected by welding current, arc voltage, welding speed, shielding gas and so on. Thus the welding condition has to be selected carefully. In this paper, an experimental method for the selection of optimal welding condition was proposed in the root pass welding which was done along the GMA V-grooved butt weld joint. This method uses the response surface analysis in which the width and height of back bead were chosen as the quality variables of the weld. The overall desirability function, which is the combined desirability function for the two quality variables, was used as the objective function for getting the optimal welding condition. Through the experiments, the target values of the back bead width and the height were chosen as 4mm and 1mm respectively for the V-grooved butt weld joint. From a series of welding test, it was revealed that a uniform weld bead can be obtained by adopting the optimal welding condition which was determined according to the method proposed.

Nonlinear dynamic time history analysis of a structure with energy dissipation devices is complicated and time consuming. In this regard the nonlinear static analysis is a practical alternative for evaluating the earthquake resisting capacity of a structure. In this study the nonlinear static response of a structure was obtained first, and the equivalent viscous modal damping ratio required to satisfy the performance objective was computed in the capacity spectrum format. Then proper amount of viscous dampers were installed to provide the required damping. Parametric study has been performed for the period of the structure, yield strength, and the stiffness after the first yield. According to the earthquake time history analysis results, the maximum displacement of the model structure with viscous dampers designed in accordance with the proposed method corresponds well with the target displacements that was used in the beginning of the design process.
The purpose of this study is to analyze effects of greenhouse gas reduction in organic agriculture. To accomplish the objective of the study, a field survey was conducted. Based on the field survey results, LCA method was used to estimate the greenhouse gas emission. The farmer survey and LCA estimation data were provided by The Foundation of Agricultural Technology Commercialization and Transfer. The GHG estimation results showed that GHG emission of organic farming is less by 10.6~89.3% when compared with the conventional farming. In addition, the economic value of greenhouse gas reduction in organic farming amounts to 1,097 million won. Based on major findings, in response to national greenhouse gas reduction target, it is needed to expand organic farming, supporting organic farmers' income.

An optimal layout condition of the offshore wind turbines is studied by using the response surface analysis which is a kind of the design of experiments. Based on the assumption that total 36 turbines would be installed in the offshore wind farm, the number and distance of the rows and columns are used as the design variables and the efficiency decrease of power generation due to the wake decay by the interactions of turbines and the installation cost of the internal electric grid are considered as the objective functions of the response surface analysis for the layout design of turbines. Useful design information can be derived by analyzing the relationship between the design variables and target functions. It is found that the row number and the distance between rows should be minimized, and the optimal distance between columns should be estimated and adopted to the layout design within the specified design range in order to ensure the economics for the offshore wind farm.
This article presents a computationally efficient framework for multi-objective seismic design optimization of steel moment-resisting frame (MRF) structures based on the nonlinear dynamic analysis procedure. This framework employs the uniform damage distribution philosophy to minimize the weight (initial cost) of the structure at different levels of damage. The preliminary framework was recently proposed by the authors based on the single excitation and the nonlinear static (pushover) analysis procedure, in which the effects of record-to-record variability as well as higher-order vibration modes were neglected. The present study investigates the reliability of the previous framework by extending the proposed algorithm using the nonlinear dynamic design procedure (optimization under multiple ground motions). Three benchmark structures, including 4-, 8-, and 12-story steel MRFs, representing the behavior of low-, mid-, and high-rise buildings, are utilized to evaluate the proposed framework. The total weight of the structure and the maximum inter-story drift ratio (IDRmax) resulting from the average response of the structure to a set of seven ground motion records are considered as two conflicting objectives for the optimization problem and are simultaneously minimized. The results of this study indicate that the optimization under several ground motions leads to almost similar outcomes in terms of optimization objectives to those are obtained from optimization under pushover analysis. However, investigation of optimal designs under a suite of 22 earthquake records reveals that the damage distribution in buildings designed by the nonlinear dynamic-based procedure is closer to the uniform distribution (desired target during the optimization process) compared to those designed according to the pushover procedure.

Objective: Progesterone receptor (PGR) and AT-rich interactive domain 1A (ARID1A) have important roles in the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy in the uterus. In present studies, we examined the expression of mitochondrial tumor suppressor 1 (MTUS1) in the murine uterus during early pregnancy as well as in response to ovarian steroid hormone treatment. Methods: We performed quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry analysis to investigate the regulation of MTUS1 by ARID1A and determined expression patterns of MTUS1 in the uterus during early pregnancy. Results: The expression of MTUS1 was detected on day 0.5 of gestation (GD 0.5) and then gradually increased until GD 3.5 in the luminal and glandular epithelium. However, the expression of MTUS1 was significantly reduced in the uterine epithelial cells of $Pgr^{cre/+}Arid1a^{f/f}$ and Pgr knockout (PRKO) mice at GD 3.5. Furthermore, MTUS1 expression was remarkably induced after P4 treatment in the luminal and glandular epithelium of the wild-type mice. However, the induction of MTUS1 expression was not detected in uteri of $Pgr^{cre/+}Arid1a^{f/f}$ or PRKO mice treated with P4. Conclusion: These results suggest that MTUS1 is a novel target gene by ARID1A and PGR in the uterine epithelial cells.

In this study, a robust aerospace system design process for the aerospace system is developed by considering the uncertainties of user requirements, manufacturing errors, and operational environment variation. User requirements are analyzed and quantified by decision making models and system engineering methods to select alternative concepts which satisfies the various requirements. Robust design and optimization method is applied to derive the robust solution of the selected system. First, a variance of objective function is calculated, and a mean value and a variance of target value are determined by the deterministic design optimization results of the system. A robust optimum design formulation is then needed to derive the robust solution that minimizes the variance of the response and moves the mean values to the target value. It is applied to Very Light Jet (VLJ) aircraft to which much attention is paid recently in civil aerospace market.
In this study, we used the ultrasonic extraction process as a method to extract antioxidant substances from kudzu, and measured the content of iso-flavonoids puerarin, daidzein, daidzin contained in kudzu. The response surface methodology which is a statistical analysis method for optimizing the extraction amount of iso-flavonoids from the kudzu and the process condition for maximizing the yield was applied. It is the final objective of this study to effectively derive the condition of the process that matches the target response with a minimum number of experiments and analyze the effect of each process condition on the response. In the response surface methodology, the central composite design was applied and the optimum condition was analyzed, and the three independent variables were set to ultrasonic irradiation time, volume ratio of ethanol/ultrapure water, ultrasonic irradiation power. Using the response surface methodology, the optimum conditions with the maximum extraction yield and the content of iso-flavonoids were evaluated as ultrasonic irradiation time (24.75 min), ethanol / ultrapure water volume ratio (39.75 vol%), ultrasonic irradiation power (592.36 W). The overall satisfaction level appears as high as 0.8938, which is recognized at a significance level within 5%. As a result of analyzing the optimization process, it was confirmed that the ultrasonic irradiation time is the factor that most affects the responses.
The objective of this study was to monitor and evaluate the schooling characteristics, including the distribution density (volume backscattering strength) and acoustic size (target strength), of commercially valuable species swimming in response to artificial reefs installed at Suyeong Man, Busan, Korea. Fish aggregations at two artificial reef areas and at a nearby natural rocky reef habitat were recorded and analyzed using a 70 kHz split-beam echo sounder and 330 kHz side-scan sonar from August to September, 2006. An underwater CCTV camera system was also used to observe marine organisms in physical contact with and swimming very close to artificial reefs. During the acoustic observations at three reef sites, useful information about schooling characteristics of fish aggregations responding to artificial reefs were obtained, but more trials are needed to confirm significant differences in schooling behavior and geographical distributions in areas containing natural reef structures and artificial reefs.
