  • European side impact analysis of an electric vehicle was done using the robust design method. In order to minimize VC as well as rib deflection, the injury response table which consists of rib deflection and VC response table has been introduced. The sensitivities and interactions are almost the same when it was compared with those of rib deflection and VC response table. Using internal energy of the factors, the starting time of dummy rib deflection and the contact average velocity, the internal energy and time-velocity response table were introduced. It is shown that the results of the new response tables have the similar characteristics to those of the Injury response table. It is suggested that the internal energy and time-velocity response table should be utilized to minimize injuries.

  • In this paper, the dynamic response of a CNC 5 Axles machining center was analyzed and then controlled passively by using the dynamic absorber. For the simplification of the theoretical approach, the CNC 5 Axles machining center was modeled as a flexible beam(Bed) having a point mass(Column), two discrete systems(a Table-set and a dynamic absorber). Specifically by using the dynamic absorber, the dynamic response of a Table-set which be caused by the vibration of a flexible beam, was reduced down to the infinitesimal level. The optimal design factors of the dynamic absorber were obtained from the minimization of the cost function. It was found that the natural frequencies of a UT-380 machining center be varied due to the movement of the Table-set. In view of the dynamic response of a Table-set, the larger spring stiffness and mass of the dynamic absorber were found to give the greater reduction.

  • A conventional lumped-mass stick model is based on the tributary area method to determine the masses lumped at each node and used in earthquake engineering due to its simplicity in the modeling of structures. However the natural frequencies of the conventional model are normally not identical to those of the actual structure. To solve this problem, recently an updated lumped-mass stick model is developed to provide the natural frequencies identical to actual structure. The present study is to investigate the seismic response accuracy of the updated lumped-mass stick model, comparing with the response results of the shaking table test. For the test, a small size four-story steel frame structure is prepared and tested on shaking table applying five earthquake ground motions. From the comparison with shaking table test results, the updated model shows an average error of 3.65% in the peak displacement response and 9.68% in the peak acceleration response. On the other hand, the conventional model shows an average error of 5.15% and 27.41% for each response.

  • In this study, the shaking table tests of block systems on the rigid base have been performed to identify the seismic response and the dynamic behavior of the piled multi-block systems. To understand the characteristics of seismic response of piled multi-block systems, it is necessary to understand the dynamic behavior of single block system. Therefore, the skating table test of the single block system has been performed first. Moreover, by performing the shaking table tests of multi-block systems, the characteristics of dynamic behavior of piled multi-block systems have been analyzed. Also in this study, the distinct element method(DEM) has been used to analyze the nonlinear behavior of the piled multi-block systems. The results of the shaking table tests show that the response of the multi-block systems is very complicated. But by using DEM, the behavior of piled multi-block systems has been predicted and described well.

  • Microstep characteristics largely depends on the variation of friction force induced by the geometric accuracy of ballscrew, guide rail and the control characteristics of servo unit. In this paper, for improving the microstep characteristics of hydrostatic table with ballscrew, microstep resolution according to the control mode of servo amplifier and response characteristic by the variation of integral gain are tested and compared. Relationship between micro motion behavior of hydrostatic table and the output torque is also tested for acquiring the effective variables on control characteristics. From the results. it is confirmed that the torque control mode has a advantage in microstep resolution, and more stable than velocity control mode in low feed rate, and by the increase of integral gain in the elastic motion realm, response characteristics can be improved.

  • A new measurement scheme is proposed to generate an optimized boost table for video rate LCD response time compensation. This method, which closely follows basic theory, enables up to a 90% reduction in the lookup table creation time compared to conventional methods. Furthermore, while conventional approaches require all measurements to be repeated in order to load the entire LUT whenever key parameters such as refresh rate or boost intensity are modified, the method proposed in this paper allows the new table to be calculated by utilizing saved waveform data without the need for any repeated measurements.

  • This paper is concerned with the application of generalized linear interactive modelling(GLIM) to the binary categorical data. To analyze the categorical data given by a contingency table, finding a good-fitting loglinear model is commonly adopted. In the case of a contingency table with a response variable, we can fit a logit model to find a good-fitting loglinear model. For a given $2^4$ contingency table with a binary response variable, we show the process of fitting a loglinear model by fitting a logit model using GLIM and SAS and then we estimate parameters to interpret the nature of associations implied by the model.

  • There are several ways to test the equality of two survival distributions under a variety of situations. Tests for equality of two distributions with life-table model for univariate independent response times are reviewed and introduced. It is developed that the methodology to test it for correlated response times where treatments are applied to different independent sets of cohorts. Data, which can be separated into two independent sets, from an angioplasty study where more than one procedure is performed on some patients are used to illustrate this methodology.

  • This paper presents the results of experimental studies on the equipment isolation effect considering the floor response. For this purpose, shaking table tests were performed. For the measuring the floor response, numerical analysis was performed. For the isolation for the equipment, Natural Rubber Bearing(NRB), High Damping Rubber Bearing(HDRB) and Friction Pendulum System(FPS) were used. Finally, it is presented that the isolation systems used in this test can be adopted for the small equipment isolation. But the rubber bearing used in this study affected to the temperature change very sensitively.

  • The safety of cultural properties, medical treatment and electrical communication equipments in a building was hardly considered against the earthquake induced vibration, while the integrity of the building structure has been taken into account through the resistant earthquake design. This paper presents design of a seismic isolation table for both indoor and outdoor electrical communication equipment. First of all, artificial earthquake waves compatible with floor and ground response spectra for electrical communication equipments are generated using previously recorded seismic waves. Two kinds of one-degree-of-freedom seismic isolation table systems: spring-linear damper and spring-friction damper systems are considered and their responses to artificial earthquake waves are simulated. Design parameter study for two seismic isolation tables are performed through simulations and a seismic isolation table for both indoor and outdoor electrical communication equipment is designed considering the simulation results.
