  • In the case that multiple services are in race condition for limited I/O resource, the services or processes with lower priority occasionally occupy most of limited I/O resource. And it decreases QoS and performance of important services and makes it difficult to efficiently use limited I/O resource. Although system administrator allocates I/O resource according to priority of process, he/she can't know or expect how much resource will be used by the specific process. Due to these reasons, it causes the problem that he/she can't guarantee the service QoS and performance stability. Therefore, in this paper, we propose service based disk I/O control supporting predictable I/O bandwidth to resolve upper problems. Proposed I/O control guarantees the service QoS and performance stability by supporting the service based predictable I/O bandwidth and it makes limited I/O resource to be efficiently used in respect of service.

  • In distributed systems like cluster systems, in order to get more performance improvement, the initial task placement system precisely estimates and correctly assigns the resource requirement by the process. The resource-based initial job placement scheme needs the prediction of resource usage of a task in order to fit it to the most suitable hosts. However, the wrong prediction of resource usage causes serious performance degradation in dynamic load balancing systems. Therefore, in this paper, to resolve the problem due to the wrong prediction, we propose a new load metric. By the new load metric, the resource-based initial job placement scheme can work without priori knowledge about the type of process. Simulation results show that the dynamic load balancing system using the proposed approach achieves shorter execution times than the conventional approaches.

  • This paper aims to explore the strategic roles of information and strategic planning capabilities for firms' performance, and to examine the direct and indirect relationships between information capability, strategic planning capability, logistics performance and competitive advantage. The present research adopts resource based theory (RBT) to explore the relationships between a firm's specific capability and its performance and employs structural equation modelling (SEM) in order to test the validation of the measurement models and examine the relationships between construct variables. The current empirical test was conducted using the data collected from logistics managers of 101 Korean electronics companies. The empirical research presents positive influential relationships between (1) information/planning formality capability and strategic planning capability; (2) strategic planning capability and logistics performance; (3) logistics performance and competitive advantage; and (4) competitive advantage and competitive position in the market.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this research is to identify the factors effecting on the software firm performance through RBV(Resource-Based View) perspective. Methods: The data have been analyzed via the multiple regressions between 3 performance indexes, which are revenue, operational income rate and employment, and 7 independent variables. Results: The results show that company age, capital intensity, training expense, marketing expense, and export revenue effect on the firm performance, whereas R&D expense and debt ratio do not so. Conclusion: This study can contribute the decision process of the investment priority of resources and competencies at the software firms to maximize the return on investment.

  • Stochastic resource-constrained project scheduling problem is an extension of resource-constrained project scheduling problem such that activity duration has stochastic nature. In real situation where activity duration is not known until the activity is finished, open-loop based static policies such as activity-based policy and priority-based policy will not well cope with duration variability. Then, a dynamic policy based on closed-loop decision making will be regarded as an alternative toward achievement of minimal makespan. In this study, a dynamic policy designed to select activities to start at each decision time point is illustrated. The performance of static and dynamic policies based on variable neighborhood search is evaluated under the discrete-event simulation environment. Experiments with J120 sets in PSPLIB and several probability distributions of activity duration show that the dynamic policy is superior to static policies. Even when the variability is high, the dynamic policy provides stable and good solutions.

  • For high performance Grid environments, an effective GIS(Grid Information System) should be adopted. In the design of GIS architecture, its grid resource information model provides a key basis. This paper presents our study on the exploration of a high performance grid resource information model. According the exploration, we identified the followings. The resource information model should clearly address the issues of relation descriptions as well as resource descriptions, issues related to scheduling support, the issue of decoupling the expression model of resource information from data repository models, and finally the issue of decoupling user-level resource descriptions from system-level resource descriptions. Based on the proposed conceptual organization of resource information models, analysis result for the existing resource information models are presented.

  • With the increasing popularization of cloud computing, how to reduce physical energy consumption and increase resource utilization while maintaining system performance has become a research hotspot of virtual machine deployment in cloud platform. Although some related researches have been reported to solve this problem, most of them used the traditional heuristic algorithm based on greedy algorithm and only considered effect of single-dimensional resource (CPU or Memory) on energy consumption. With considerations to multi-dimensional resource utilization, this paper analyzed impact of multi-dimensional resources on energy consumption of cloud computation. A multi-dimensional resource constraint that could maintain normal system operation was proposed. Later, a novel virtual machine deployment method (NVMDM) based on improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO) and Euclidean distance was put forward. It deals with problems like how to generate the initial particle swarm through the improved first-fit algorithm based on resource constraint (IFFABRC), how to define measure standard of credibility of individual and global optimal solutions of particles by combining with Bayesian transform, and how to define fitness function of particle swarm according to the multi-dimensional resource constraint relationship. The proposed NVMDM was proved superior to existing heuristic algorithm in developing performances of physical machines. It could improve utilization of CPU, memory, disk and bandwidth effectively and control task execution time of users within the range of resource constraint.

  • This paper presents adaptive-MMOSPRED method for prediction of resource demands requested by multimedia calls, and shows the performance of the call admission control based on proposed resource prediction method in multimedia wireless networks. The proposed method determines (I-CDP) random variables of the standard normal distribution by using LMS algorithm that minimize errors of prediction in resource demands, while parameters in an existing method are constant all through the prediction time. Our simulation results show that prediction error in adaptive-MMOSPRED method is much smaller than in fixed-MMOSPRED method. Also we can see via simulation the CAC performance based on the proposed method improves the new call blocking performance compared with the existing method under the desired handoff dropping probability.

  • Recently, Grid is embossed as a new issue according to the need of cooperation related to distributed resources, data sharing, Interaction and so on. It focuses on sharing of large scale resources, high-performance, applications of new paradigms, which improved more than established distributed computing. Because of the environmental specificity distributed geographically and dynamic, the most important problem in grid environment is to share and to allocate distributed grid resources. This paper proposes supply-driven strategies model that is applicable for resource management in grid environment and presents a optimal resource allocation algorithm based on resource demands. Supply-driven strategies model can offer efficient resource management by transaction allocation based on user demand and provider strategy. This paper implements the supply-driven strategies model on the DEVS modeling and simulation environment and shows the efficiency and excellency of this model by comparing with established models.

  • The purpose of this study is to present and identify the relationship for the effects of performance-based human resource practices on the organizational effectiveness with focusing on small and medium-sized enterprises around Shandong province of China. The performance-based human resource practice factors include selective employment system, education training system, evaluation system, compensation system and the career promotion ladder opportunity system. As a result, among ten hypotheses, six hypotheses turned out to be the meaningful approaches. In addition there exist some human factors that interfere with the fairness of the evaluation due to the regional and personal factors, assessment system difference among firms. Finally the compensation system and organizational investment for increasing or decreasing will critically affect the enthusiasm of the staff members of firms, and the less invested for thema, the greater the likelihood of their turnovers.
