  • This paper proposes a new non-isolated DC conversion circuit topology of the voltage source coupled inductor series resonant high-frequency PFM controlled boost chopper type DC-DC power converter using two in one IGBT power module, which can efficiently operate under a principle of zero current soft switching for wide output regulation voltage setting ranges and wide fluctuation of the input DC side voltage as well as the load variation ranges. Its steady state operating principle and the output voltage regulation characteristics in the open-loop-based output voltage control scheme without PI controller loop are described and evaluated from theoretical and experimented viewpoints. Finally, in this paper the computer-aided simulation steady-state analysis and the experimental results are presented in order to prove the effectiveness and the validity of voltage regulation characteristics of the proposed series resonant zero current soft switching boost chopper type DC-DC power converter circuit using IGBTs which is based on simple pulse frequency modulation strategy more than, 20kHz.

  • In the buck-boost DC-DC chopper which is used at a certain situation such as in factories where loads often change a lot, the switches in the device make big energy loss in operating at Buck-Boost Mode due to hard switching and are affected by lots of stresses which decrease the efficiency rate of the converter. In order to improve this problem, to decrease the loss of snubber and switching, it has been investigated that zero voltage switching mode and zero current switching mode which make the operation of switches with soft switching. For the more sophisticated and advanced device, this paper is presented the Partial Resonant Soft Switching Mode Power Converter which is adapted the power converter having the partial resonant soft switching mode, that makes switches operate when the resonant current or voltage becomes zero by making the resonant circuit partially at turning on and off of the switches with suitable layout of the resonant elements and switch elements in the converter. Also, this paper includes the analysis and simulation of the Partial Resonant type Buck-Boost Chopper.

  • A nonisolated two-phase bidirectional dc-dc converter (NTPBDC) is a very attractive solution for the battery energy storage system (BESS) applications due to the high voltage conversion ratio and the reduced conduction loss of the switching devices. However, a hard-switching based NTPBDC decreases the overall voltage conversion efficiency. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a novel NTPBDC with zero-voltage-transition (NTPBDC -ZVT). The soft-switching for the boost and buck main switches is achieved by using a resonant cell, which consists of a single resonant inductor and four auxiliary switches. Furthermore, due to the single resonant inductor, the proposed NTPBDC-ZVT has the advantages of simple implementation, reduced size, and low cost. The validity of the proposed NTPBDC-ZVT is verified through experimental results.

  • A novel auxiliary resonant commutated pole (ARCP) link for three-phase PWM voltage-fed converter is presented. The ARCP link consists of two auxiliary switches, one resonant inductance, and six diodes, which is simpler than the conventional ARCP designs. Based on the phase and amplitude control, the proposed converter can take a minimum switching times PWM method, which results in reduced losses and a simplified control. In addition, the zero-voltage resonance modes are analyzed. Finally, simulation and experimental results show that the system can realize zero-voltage switching with a unity power factor.

  • A novel three-phase quasi-resonant dc link inverter (QRI)with a switch connected between dc voltage source and resonant inductor is proposed. According to the state of switching and load current, the operating mode of the proposed inverter scheme is classified into free-wheeling, inverting, and rectifying mode. By examining the behavior of the circuit in each operating mode, an equivalent circuit which represents all the modes in a unified manner is derived. The operating principle of QRI at inverting mode is analyzed, and it is shown that the maximum voltage of resonant dc link is confined to twice the dc source voltage and that both the zero voltage switching of inverter and the zero current switching of inserted switch are guaranteed. An appropriate current control algorithm is suggested, and the opeating characteristics of proposed resonant inverter are verified through both simulation and experiment.

  • This paper focuses on the zero-voltage/zero current transition voltage equalization circuit for the series connected battery cell. By adding auxiliary resonant cells at the main switching devices such as MOSFET or IGBT, zero current switching is achieved and turned off loss of switching elements is eliminated and by the voltage/second balancing of the inductor, zero voltage switching can be applied to switching element. Transformer coupling between battery cells and ZVZCT (Zero Voltage Zero Current Transition) switching method allow the fast balancing speed and high frequency operation, which reduces the size and weight of the circuit. The validity of the battery equalization is further verified using simulation involving four lithium-ion battery cell models.

  • A novel zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) push-pull forward converter with a parallel resonant network is presented in this paper. The novel topology can provide a releasing loop for the energy storage in a leakage inductor for the duration of the power switching by the resonant capacitors paralleled with the primary windings of the transformer. Then the transformer leakage inductor is utilized to be resonant with the parallel capacitor, and the ZVS operation is achieved. This converter exhibits many advantages such as lower duty-cycle losses, limited peak voltage across the rectifier diodes and a higher efficiency. Furthermore, the operating principles and key problems of the converter design are analyzed in detail, and the ZVS conditions are derived. A 500W experimental converter prototype has been built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter, and its maximum efficiency reaches 94.8%.

  • This paper presents a steady-state operation analysis of full-bridge series-resonant inverters focusing on the distorted load current due to low-quality-factor resonant circuits in induction heating and other applications. The regions of operation based on the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and non-zero-voltage switching (NON-ZVS) operations of the asymmetrical voltage-cancellation control technique are identified. The effects of a distorted load current under a wide range of output powers are also analyzed for achieving a precise ZVS operating region. An experimental study is performed with a 1kW prototype. Simulation and experimental studies have confirmed the validity of the proposed method. An efficiency comparison between the variable frequency method and the conventional fixed-frequency method is provided.

The main switch is turned-off under the zero current and zero voltage condition, and there is no additional current stress and voltage stress in, the main switch and the main diode. The Auxiliary switch is turned-off under the zero voltage condition, and the main diode is turned-on under the zero voltage condition, The resonant current required to obtain the ZCT is small and regenerated to the input voltage source. The operational principles of the boost converter integrated with the proposed ZCT circuit cell is analyzed theoretically and verified by the simulation and experimental result. Index terms - zero-current-transition (ZCT), zero-current- switching (ZCS), zero-voltage-switching (ZVS)

  • In this paper, a current-fed two-inductor bi-directional DC/DC converter using resonance (CF-TIBCR) and its design method are proposed. The CF-TIBCR has characteristics of low current ripple and a high current rating because of two separated inductors. Also, it achieves zero voltage switching for all switches and zero current switching for switches of a low voltage stage by using the resonant tank. Besides, a voltage spike problem in conventional current-fed converters is solved without the need for an additional snubber or clamping circuits. As a result, the CF-TIBCR features high step-up and high efficiency. Since the proposed converter has difficulty achieving the soft-switching condition when the converter requires the low voltage transfer ratio, a method that varies the number of resonant cycles is adopted to extend the output voltage range with satisfying the soft-switching condition. The principles of the operation characteristics are presented with a theoretical analysis, and the proposed converter is verified through results of an experiment using a laboratory prototype.
