  • In this paper, a new design for a Coplanar Waveguide(CPW) fed wide-band slot antenna is presented. To enhance the impedance bandwidth of the slot antenna, we proposed the tapering slot structure. A various resonance modes are generated in the tapering slot. The measured impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is about 13:1(2.0 GHz∼25.9 GHz) with VSWR$\leq$2. Simulation and measurement results for return loss and radiation pattern are presented.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to describe a novel ultrasonic motor which is suitable for small information devices. With a bending mode of a bimorph structure having relatively large displacement, the input voltage and frequency could be reduced. The overall shape of the motor is very simple, so it could be manufactured and miniaturized with ease. From the simulated results, such as mode and harmonic analysis, resonance mode, operating frequency, and displacement are determined. The experimental results are compared with the simulated one finally.

  • Resonant frequencies and the associated vibrational modes of multiwall carbon nanotubes are studied in this paper. The analysis is based on a multiple-elastic beam model, considering intertube radial displacements and the related internal degrees of freedom. Especially, van der Waals interaction is modified considering both all interaction between each layers in multi-wall carbon nanotubes and curvature effect. The results show that modified van der Waals interaction could significantly affect the natural frequencies of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. In particular, non-coaxial intertube resonance will be excited at the higher resonant frequencies of multiwall carbon nanotubes.

  • This paper aims at enlightening the properties, computational and implementation issues related to Kalman filter based state estimation algorithms and sliding mode observers, by applying them for estimating the states of a smart structure system. The Kalman based estimators considered in this work are Kalman filter and information filter and, the sliding mode observers considered are Utkin observer and higher order sliding mode observer. A fourth order linear time invariant model of a piezo actuated beam is used in this work. This structure is embedded with four number of piezo patches, of which two act as sensors, one as disturbance actuator and the other as control actuator. The performance of the state estimation algorithms is evaluated through simulation, for the first two vibrating modes of the piezo actuated structure, when the structure is maintained at first mode and second mode resonance.

  • This study is performed to evaluate and design the dynamic characteristics of the onboard machinery with resilient mounts. To avoid resonance with onboard machinery and external force, it is necessary to calculate natural frequencies of the resilient mounting system more accurately. Natural frequencies of on board machinery are determined by rigid body properties(mass, moment of inertia, center of mass) of machinery and stiffness of mounts. But it is very difficult to calculate rigid body properties theoretically. And stiffness properties of rubber mounts vary with dynamic displacement, pre load, frequency and temperature, and so on. In this study, we have identified rigid body properties using experimental modal analysis and estimated dynamic stiffness of rubber mount for onboard machinery using measured vibration response during seatrial. We measured displacement excitation through deck under mounts and evaluated relationship between modes of resilient mounting system and main excitation sources of a ship.

  • This paper proposes a SEPIC-input, self-driven, active clamp ZVS converter, where an auxiliary winding and a RC delay circuit are employed to drive the active clamp switch and to achieve asymmetrical duty control without any other extra circuits. Based on the fixed dead time and the resonance between capacitors and inductors, both the main switch and the auxiliary switch can rule the ZVS operation. Detailed operation modes are presented to illustrate the self-driven and ZVS principles. Furthermore, an accurate state-space model and the transfer functions of the proposed converter have been presented and analyzed in order to optimize dynamic performance. The model provides efficient prediction of converter operations. Experimental results, based on a prototype with 80V input and 15V/20A output, are discussed to verify the transient and steady performance of the proposed converter.

  • In this work, a new cadmium complex $[Cd(L)(CH_3COO)_2].2H_2O$ (1) with the ligand L, N,N'-bis(2-pyridinecarboxalidene)-1,2-cyclohexanediamine was prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman, $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The cadmium atom in the crystal structure of 1 has distorted triangular dodecahedral geometry by coordination of the four nitrogen atoms of L and four oxygen atoms of the two acetate ions. Two water molecules are also incorporated in the crystal network. The $O-H{\cdots}O$ hydrogen bonds present in the crystal structure of 1. In this work, three structural surveys including coordination numbers of the cadmium atom, coordination modes of L and resonance in pyridine-2-ylmethanimine-based compounds are presented.

  • Thicknesses of the hase concrete blocks supportmg large machmes were estimated by analyzing the res- 0 ¬nance modes of mechanical Vibrations The vibration was produced by the mechanical impact with steel ball drop and detected by a wideband comcal piezoelectric transducei. The detected signals were analyzed by FFT and thicknesses of specimen were determined by the resonant frequency of vibratIon. For the layered concrete block, the estimated thickness is dependent on the acoustic reflective index at the boundary between layers. The estimated thickness up to 100em were in goo:l agreement with the real value. In additlOn. this technique could be applicable to the estimation of the bondmg status of the layered structures.

  • This paper presents a circuit of resonant voltage resultant type DC/DC converter consists of two unit half-bridge high frequency resonant inverters, and describes operating modes, principle and analysis of the proposed circuit. Also, the analysis of the proposed circuit has generally described by using normalized parameters. Based on the characteristic values, a method of the circuit design is proposed. According to phase shift, the output voltage of the proposed circuit can be controlled. In addition, the justification of theoretical analysis was certified by comparing to the experimental waveforms. In the future, this proposed converter show that it can be practically used as the system of fixed DC voltage source etc.

  • A strategy for the swing-up and stabilization control method for a two-links rotational pendulum according to states of each link of the rotational pendulum is proposed. The proposed controller consists of two modes of control such as divergence mode and stabilization mode. When the controller is in divergence mode, control input is generated using sinusoidal function, which is developed based on resonance period of the pendulum in linear region, to make the second link (pendulum) reach top position. After the controller finishes operation in divergence mode, stabilization control is initiated to keep the pendulum around the top position using pole placement control method. Experimental results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
