This study aims at the analysis using the Resistivity Estimation Model (REM) to examine the effect of specimen size on the measurement of electrical resistivity. In the experiment, specimens of concrete were fabricated and the apparent resistivity was measured for each electrode interval. The apparent resistivity measured was found to be distorted in the apparent resistivity as the specimen size became smaller and closer to the outside (edge). As a result of comparing the experimental and analysis values, it is expected that REM can be used to examine the effect of the size of the specimen.
Detailed estimation of subsurface resistivity distribution and accurate estimation of actual fault current coming into the grounding system are indispensible to optimun grounding system design. Especially, it is essential for efficient grounding design to estimate subsurface resistivity distribution quantitatively and logically. Accurate estimation of subsurface resistivity distribution has an absolute influence on calculating touch voltage, step voltage and ground potential rise (GPR) which are related with grounding design standard for human safety. In this study, thirty-three electrical sounding surveys were made in Yongdam Power Station to obtain detailed subsurface resistivity distribution and the sounding data were interpreted quantitatively using multi-layered model. The results of the quantitative resistivity models were adopted practically to calculate grounding resistance values. Analytical asymptotic equations and CDEGS program were used in grounding resistance calculation and the results were compared and reviewed in the study.

In this paper, we propose measurement based numerical resistivity model for low energy exploding foil initiator (LEEFI) of electronic safety and arming device(ESAD). A resistivity model describes a behavior of variable resistance in LEEFI by firing current. The previous resistivity model was based on high energy detonator applications as explosive bridge wire and exploding foil initiator. Therefore, to estimate the voltage, current, and burst time of LEEFI, a resistivity model suitable for LEEFI is needed. For the modeling of resistivity of LEEFI, we propose a specific action based equation which represents a behavior of LEEFI when firing current is applied. To verify the proposed model, we analyze a firing current transmission path to obtain parasitic impedance. We experimentally verify that the proposed resistivity model offers precise estimation for the behavior of variable resistance in LEEFI.

This research endeavors to explore the nuances in apparent resistivity readings in concrete specimens due to the proximity of embedded reinforcement. To systematically gauge this, concrete samples incorporating singular and paired rebars were meticulously crafted. These rebars were strategically positioned at intervals of 0.03m, 0.04m, and 0.05m from each specimen's midpoint. Subsequent resistivity assessments were conducted at 0.01m increments up to the predetermined rebar location for each sample. A consistent observation was the nadir in apparent resistivity manifesting at the rebar's epicenter. Notably, dual-rebar configurations registered lower resistivity values at this central juncture compared to their single-rebar counterparts. This metric underscores the palpable impact of surrounding reinforcement on resistivity readings. Further, as the spatial separation between rebars increased, the distinctness in their locational identification via resistivity became increasingly pronounced.

Deterioration factors such as CO2 and chloride ions cause steel corrosion in RC structures. The diffusion of these factors depends on the water content in concrete. To examine the moisture condition of concrete, this research considers the availability of the steel effect ratio, which is calculated by Resistivity Estimation Model (REM). It is concluded that the steel effect ratio is expected to be available as a quantitative evaluation method in the assessment of concrete layer resistivity.
A set of geophysical survey results over an area in Bookil-myun, Chungwon-Gun, Chungcheongbuk-Do is presented; resistivity logging, d.c. sounding, dipole-dipole resistivity, and controlled-source magnetotelluric (CSMT) surveys. These surveys were chosen in this research for the estimation of the basement depth and the delineation of the hydrogeologic structure over the survey area. The results provide an optimal input to a hydrogeologic modeling analysis using the strategies built in GIS software. A total of 14 lines of dipole-dipole resistivity surveys, 25 stations of d.c. sounding and 6 stations of CSMT sounding were performed. In addition 10 boreholes were chosen for resistivity logging to correlate the logs to the surface data. A quantitative information on the hydrogeologic structure over the area is provided by synthesizing the results from various geophysical data and attribute layers are constructed by utilizing a GIS software Arc/ Info. The constructed layers match well to the hydrogeologic structures, which were outlined from the drilling data. The methodology tested and adopted in this study would be useful for providing a more reliable input to the hydrogeologic model setup.
Petrophysical parameters such as porosity and fluid saturation which provide useful information for reservoir characterization could be estimated by rock physics model (RPM) using seismic velocity and resistivity. Therefore, accurate P-wave velocity and resistivity information have to be obtained for successful estimation of the petrophysical parameters. Compared with the individual inversion of electromagnetic (EM) or seismic data, the joint inversion using both EM and seismic data together can reduce the uncertainty and gives the opportunity to use the advantages of each data. Thus, more reliable petrophysical properties could be estimated through the joint inversion. In this paper, for the successful estimation of petrophysical parameters, we proposed an effective method which applies a grid-search method to find the porosity and fluid saturation. The relations of porosity and fluid saturation with P-wave velocity and resistivity were expressed by using RPM and the improved resistivity distribution used to this study was obtained by joint inversion of seismic and EM data. When the proposed method was applied to the synthetic data which were simulated for subsea reservoir exploration, reliable petrophysical parameters were obtained. The results indicate that the proposed method can be applied for detecting a reservoir and calculating the accurate oil and gas reserves.

Among induced polarization (IP) methods, spectral IP (SIP) uses alternating current as a transmission source to measure amplitudes and phase of complex electrical resistivity at each source frequency, which disperse with respect to source frequencies. The frequency dependence, which can be explained by a relaxation model such as Cole-Cole model or equivalent models, is analyzed to estimate SIP parameters from dispersion curves of complex resistivity employing multi-objective optimization (MOO). The estimation uses a generic algorithm to optimize two objective functions minimizing data misfits of amplitude and phase based on Cole-Cole model, which is most widely used to explain IP relaxation effects. The MOO-based estimation properly recovered Cole-Cole model parameters for synthetic examples but hardly fitted for the real laboratory measures ones, which have relatively smaller values of phases (less than about 10 mrad). Discrepancies between scales for data misfits of amplitude and phase, used as parameters of MOO method, and it is in necessity to employ other methods such as machine learning, which can deal with the discrepancies, to estimate SIP parameters from dispersion curves of complex resistivity.

Pressure-assisted forward osmosis (PAFO) process has recently been under spotlight for its potential to improve forward osmosis (FO) process performance by applying low hydraulic pressure on the feed side. Structure parameter, one of the governing factors in estimating water flux and solute flux across FO membranes in the solution-diffusion model (S-D model), determines solute resistivity in FO and PAFO processes. This study aims to estimate the trend of structure parameter change with respect to varying additional hydraulic pressure condition in PAFO.

We developed a time-lapse inversion using new cross-model constraints based on change ratio and resolution of model parameters. The cross-model constraint based on change ratio imposes the same penalty on the model parameters with equal change ratio. This constraint can emphasize the model parameters with significant change regardless of their increase or decrease. The resolution cross-model constraint imposes a small penalty on the model parameters with poor resolution, but a large penalty on the model parameters with good resolution. Thus, the model parameter with poor resolution can be effectively identified in the inversion result if they are significantly changed with time. Through the numerical tests for 3D resistivity monitoring data sets, the performance of these two cross-model constraints was confirmed. Finally, for the safety estimation of a sea dyke, we applied the developed time-lapse inversion to the 3D resistivity monitoring data that were acquired at a sea dike located in western coastal area of Korea. The result of time-lapse inversion suggested that there were no significant changes at the sea dike during the monitoring period.
