Development of Design System for Multi-Stage Gear Drives Using Simulated Annealing Algorithm (시뮬레이티드 어닐링을 이용한 다단 치차장치의 설계 시스템 개발)

  • Recently, the need for designing multi-stage gear drive has been increased as the hear drives are used more in the applications with high-speed and small volume. The design of multi-stage gear drives includes not only dimensional design but also configuration design of various machine elements. Until now, however, the researches on the design of gear drives are mainly focused on the single-stage gear drives and the design practices for multi-stage gear drives, especially in configuration design activity, mainly depend on the experiences and 'sense' of the designer by trial and error. We propose a design algorithm to automate the dimension design and the configuration design of multi-stage gear drives. The design process consists of four steps. The number of stage should be determined in the first step. In second step, the gear ratios of each reduction stage are determined using random search, and the ratios are basic input for the dimension design of gears, which is performed by the exhaustive search in third step. The designs of gears are guaranteed by the pitting resistance and bending strength rating practices by AGMA rating formulas. In configuration design, the positions of gears are determined to minimize the volume of gearbox using simulated annealing algorithm. The effectiveness of the algorithm is assured by the design example of a 4-stage gear drive.

A Numerical Model of Large Scale Grid for Two-Dimensional Wake behind Bodies (저항물체 배후의 이차원 후류에 관한 대격자 수치모형)

  • To evaluate the hydraulic resistance behind bodies in a large scale grid numerical model, a drag stress term which is formulated by the drag force is introduced in the depth-integrated Reynolds equations. And also, the applicability and problems of this model are discussed through various numerical experiments where the analytical solutions exist. In the case of a single body, the error range of velocity difference between analytical and numerical solutions is within $\pm$10% and the wake width behind the body shows a good agreement with the analytical solution. When the drag coefficient and the eddy viscosity are precisely decided, the numerical solutions behind a row of bodies will be efficiently used in real situations.

A Study on the Real-Time Estimation of Thermal Displacement for a Ball Screw (실시간 볼 스크류 열변형 추정에 관한 연구)

  • The ball screw preloaded for high nigidity and accuracy increases frictional resistance, therefore, its temperature and positioning error rise. In this paper, 2 diamensional temperature distributions of a ball screw with preload are analyzed according to the rotational speeds and stop times by a finite element method. The theremal behaviors of a ball screw are measured to examine the analyzed datum. The examined results show that the trends of temperature rising and axial distributions in steady state are nearly extimate but the temperature low. The differences of temperature ate seems to be caused by not exact heat transfer coefficients. More than an hour is consumed for calculation by FEM. So the modified lumped method for the real-time estimation of the thermal distribution is proposed. The estimated temperature of a ball serw by the modified lumped method is more exactly estimated than by FEM, nd that method takes less than several millisec. Moreover it can be used to estimate heat transfer coefficients.

High-Capacity and Robust Watermarking Scheme for Small-Scale Vector Data

  • For small-scale vector data, restrictions on watermark scheme capacity and robustness limit the use of copyright protection. A watermarking scheme based on robust geometric features and capacity maximization strategy that simultaneously improves capacity and robustness is presented in this paper. The distance ratio and angle of adjacent vertices are chosen as the watermark domain due to their resistance to vertex and geometric attacks. Regarding watermark embedding and extraction, a capacity-improved strategy based on quantization index modulation, which divides more intervals to carry sufficient watermark bits, is proposed. By considering the error tolerance of the vector map and the numerical accuracy, the optimization of the capacity-improved strategy is studied to maximize the embedded watermark bits for each vertex. The experimental results demonstrated that the map distortion caused by watermarks is small and much lower than the map tolerance. Additionally, the proposed scheme can embed a copyright image of 1024 bits into vector data of 150 vertices, which reaches capacity at approximately 14 bits/vertex, and shows prominent robustness against vertex and geometric attacks for small-scale vector data.

Evaluation of Deterioration on Steel Bridges Based on Bridge Condition Ratings

  • Recent developments in Bridge Management Systems (BMS) and in Life-Cycle Cost (LCC) of bridges, have raised the need for evaluation procedure of future condition (Deterioration) of a bridge. Predicting future deterioration is not an easy task due to limited past data to extrapolate from and also due to difficulty in measuring actual deterioration such as section loss of steel on an actual steel bridge. Also, increase in live load and reduction of resistance are random variables, thus a probabilistic approach should be adopted for determining the future deterioration. Due to difficulties in evaluation of future deterioration on steel bridges, accepting uncertainties within a reasonable error, a deterministic procedure using bridge condition rating can be a useful tool for projection of future condition of bridges to identify repair and maintenance needs. The object of this paper is to determine applicability of evaluating deterioration of steel bridge components based on Bridge condition ratings. Bridge condition ratings of bridge components show wide variation for bridges of same age and does not directly correlate well with the age of the bridge and/or deterioration of the bridge. High uncertainty can be reduced by breaking down the rating and by sensitivity analysis. From refined condition rating data, generalized deterioration profile of structures based on age can be derived. Examples are shown for sample bridges in USA. Approximately, 3,000 short to medium span steel bridges were listed in the inventory database. Results show wide variation of rating factors but by subdividing the Bridge condition ratings for various categories general deterioration profiles of steel bridges can be determined.

Effect of Welding Parameters on Wire Seam Weldability of Tin Coated Steels for Small Containers (용접 조건이 소형 용기용 Sn 도금 강재의 와이어 심 용접성에 미치는 영향)

  • Effect of welding parameters such as current, speed and electrode pressure on the weld quality of tin coated steels for small containers was discussed in this paper. Welding was performed with low frequency wire seam welding system which was loaded with 1.5mm in diameter copper wire electrode. The welding parameters were monitored at the position close to the welding spot so as to minimize the instrumentation error, and the signals were stored into a digital data acquisition system before analysis. Results showed that critical current for sufficient nugget size increased as the base material thickness increased, while the width of the optimum welding range was reduced. The acceptable welding condition derived from this study was found to be effective within the thickness range of $\pm$10% of the nominal (0.25mm) thickness. Tin coating layer was proved not to affect seriously on the weld quality, i.e. strength and formability, since consumable wire electrode was used in this process. Test results also demonstrated that the welding current was thought to be the most effective parameter to form an acceptable weld, while welding speed or electrode pressure exerted less effect on the nugget formation. However, these two parameters played an important role because the former was related to the nugget overlap interval, and the latter, to the formation of expulsion during welding.

  • In general, two methods have been used to predict settlement of soft ground. One method is Terzaghi's one dimensional consolidation theory which gives time-settlement relationship using the standard consolidation test results. The other is forecasting method of ground settlement to be occured in the future using in-situ monitoring data. The above both methods have some defects in application manner or in itself especially in very deep and soft clayey ground. In view of the lessons and experiences of soft ground improvement projects, several techniques were proposed for more accurate theorectical calculation of consolidation settlement as follows ; ① Subdivision of soft ground, ② Consideration of secondary compression, ③ Using the modified compression index, etc. And also, revised hyperbolic fitting method was suggested to minimize the error of predicted future settlement. In addition, revised De-Beer equation of immediate settlement of loose sandy soil was proposed to overcome the tendency to show too small settlement calculation results by original De-Deer equation. And also, considering the various effects of settlement delay in the improved ground by vertical drains, time-settlement caculation equation(Onoue method) was revised to match the tendency of settlement delay by using the characteristics of discharge capacity decreases of vertical drain with time elapse by the pattern of hyperbolic equation.

  • Lately, cement mixed siliceous powder waterproofing coating has been used as a waterproofing material in the wet environment condition of an underground concrete structure. Underground is exposed to environmental influences such as pressure of ground water, pressure of soil. However, the quality standard for pressure (water pressure, earth pressure) is not specified in the specification of the cement mixed siliceous powder waterproofing coating. Therefore, in this study, the permeability test was carried out based on the assumption that the durability should be verified in consideration of the environmental aspects of the material in actual field. As a result of the test, the permeability was generated from the inorganic single type material, but it was caused by the sealing failure and the test error, and the permeability was not generated in most of the materials. The results of this study will be analyzed by reviewing the physical properties of the material, and the research direction will be resumed.

  • a-Si solar cell has relatively dominant drift current when compared with crystalline solar cell due to the high internal electric field. Such drift current make an impact on the PV module in the local shading. In this paper, the a-Si PV module output characteristics of shading effects was approached in terms of process condition, because of the different deposition layer of thin film lead to rising the resistance. We suggested design condition to ensure the long-term durability of the module with regard to the degradation factors such as hot spot by analyzing the module specification. The result shows a remarkable difference on module uniformity for each shading position. In addition, the unbalanced power loss due to power mismatch of each module could intensify the degradation.

  • The followings are dealing with 10 dental alloys with less then 30% gold, manufactured by S company 7, and by H company 3. We could find several noticable things by examining them about tarnish and corrosion with human saliva and several other chemicals, and through metal microscopy. 1) After the samples were submerged in human saliva for 3 months, the colour of the samples were no remarkable change. 2) taking a consideration of the error of santorius balance, also there had been little corrosive changes in human saliva. 3) The colour of A-4 was changed into red in 0.05% HCI solution, while that of P-B was changed into black in 0.1% Na₂S solution and severely corroded samples, P-B, X, and Z lost their original colour and turned black. 4) In case of submerging in H₂NO₃reagent, 50%, it caused serious diminishing changes in weight, that is, X 2.7%, Pb 31.0%, Z 40.5%, and there happened tremble corrosive reaction. 5) Seeing them through metal microscopy, we can obserre the corroded samples changed into the shape of.
