A set of experiments has been conducted on the performance sensitivity of the passive residual heat removal system (PRHRS) for an advanced integral type reactor, SMART, by using a high temperature and high pressure thermal-hydraulic test facility, the VISTA facility. In this paper the effects of the opening delay of the PRHRS bypass valves and the closing delay of the secondary system isolation valves, and the initial water level and the initial pressure of the compensating tank (CT) are investigated. During the reference test a stable flow occurs in a natural circulation loop that is composed of a steam generator secondary side, a secondary system, and a PRHRS; this is ascertained by a repetition test. When the PRHRS bypass valves are operated 10 seconds later than the secondary system isolation valves, the primary system is not properly cooled. When the secondary system isolation valves are operated 10 or 30 seconds later than the PRHRS bypass valves, the primary system is effectively cooled but the inventory of the PRHRS CT is drained earlier. As the initial water level of the CT is lowered to 16% of the full water level, the water is quickly drained and then nitrogen gas is introduced into the PRHRS, resulting in the deterioration of the PRHRS performance. When the initial pressure of the PRHRS is at 0.1MPa, the natural circulation is not performed properly. When the initial pressures of the PRHRS are 2.5 or 3.5 MPa, they show better performance than did the reference test.

A multi-residual method using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/MS/ MS) was developed for the analysis of 105 pesticides. This method was tested on lemons, beans and other vegetables. The pretreatment of these pesticides was performed by liquid-liquid partition followed by cleanup with solid phase extraction cartridge (SPE Florisil), after acetonitrile extraction from matrices and sodium chloride (15 g) addition. The recovery ranged from 71.1% to 126.0% except for azinphosmethyl, famoxadone, fenamidone, flufenoxuron and triadimefon in lemons and from 72.5% to 124.5% in bean. In lemon, the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were 0.001~150 ng/ mL and 0.004~500 ng/mL, respectively.
In general, quantitative chemical analysis in various areas including food, the environment, in vitro diagnostics, etc., requires traceability in order to increase the reliability of the measurements. Measurement traceability is a property of an unbroken chain of comparisons relating an instrument's measurements to SI units. Purity analysis is the first process for establishing traceability to SI units in chemical measurements. The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a method of purity assignment for establishing the traceability of $17{\beta}$-estradiol measurements in an in vitro diagnostics field. The establishment of this method is very important as it can be applied to the development of CRM and to the analysis of the purity of other hormones. The method of assignment of the purity of $17{\beta}$-estradiol was developed using the mass balance method and was validated through participation in an International comparison. In the mass balance method, impurities are categorized into four classes as follows: total related structure impurities, water, residual organic solvents, and nonvolatiles/inorganics. In this study, total related structure impurities were characterized by a gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and a high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet (HPLC-UV) detector, water content was determined by a Karl-Fisher coulometer, and total residual solvents and nonvolatiles/inorganics were checked simultaneously by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The purity of the $17{\beta}$-estradiol was 985.6 mg/g and the expanded uncertainty was 2.1 mg/g at 95% confidence. The developed method can be applied to the development of certified reference materials, which play a critical role in traceability.

We tested for residual pesticide levels in dried vegetables in Seoul, Korea. A total of 100 samples of 13 different types of agricultural products were analyzed by a gas chromatography-nitrogen phosphate detector (GC-NPD), an electron capture detector (GC-${\mu}ECD$), a mass spectrometry detector (GC-MSD), and a high performance liquid chromatography- ultraviolet detector (HPLC-UV). We used multi-analysis methods to analyze for 253 different pesticide types. Among the selected agricultural products, residual pesticides were detected in 11 samples, of which 2 samples (2.0%) exceeded the Korea Maximum Residue limits (MRLs). We detected pesticide residue in 6 of 9 analyzed dried pepper leaves and 1 sample exceeded the Korea MRLs. Data obtained were then used for estimating the potential health risks associated with the exposures to these pesticides. The estimated daily intakes (EDIs) range from 0.1% of the acceptable daily intake (ADI) for bifenthrin to 8.4% of the ADI for cadusafos. The most critical commodity is cadusafos in chwinamul, contributing 8.4% to the hazard index (HI). This results show that the detected pesticides could not be considered a serious public health problem. Nevertheless, an investigation into continuous monitoring is recommended.

A mass balance method established in this laboratory was applied to determine the purity of an endosulfan-II pure substance. Gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GC-FID) was used to measure organic impurities. Total of 10 structurally related organic impurities were detected by GC-FID in the material. Water content was determined to be 0.187% by Karl-Fischer (K-F) coulometry with an oven-drying method. Non-volatile residual impurities was not detected by Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) within the detection limit of 0.04% (0.7 ${\mu}g$ in absolute amount). Residual solvents within the substance were determined to be 0.007% in the Endosulfan-II pure substance by running GC-FID after dissolving it with two solvents. The purity of the endosulfan-II was finally assigned to be ($99.17{\pm}0.14$)%. Details of the mass balance method including interpretation and evaluating uncertainties of results from each individual methods and the finally assayed purity were also described.

Extension of the mobile communication and the rapidly developing services connected with wireless multimedia(W-CDMA, DMB, Wibro, and so on) need great many base station transceiver systems, antennas, and many signal transmission line to embody these services. The min communication appliances system is exposed always in danger of transient overvoltage by direct stroke or induced lightning surge flowing in through antenna because the antenna of base station transceiver system or relay equipment is combined with expensive communication network equipments through signal transmission line. Now, gas discharge tube(GDT) or narrow band stub arrestor which is used by the surge protector for communication use is exposing limitations as for lightning surge protective means of the communication facility with high speed and wide frequency band. Therefore, for improving performance of surge arrestor, we applied ceramic filter which can reduce lightning surge invading from antenna effectively, and proved that ceramic filter is effective in residual voltage reduction through the experimental research.
Ultrasonic impact treatment (UIT) is carried out on the Ni-based alloy stainless steel pipe gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) girth weld, the differences of microstructure, microhardness and shear strength distribution of the joint before and after ultrasonic shock are studied by microhardness test and shear punch test. The results show that after UIT, the plastic deformation layer is formed on the outside surface of the Ni-based alloy overlayer, single-phase austenite and γ type precipitates are formed in the overlayer, and a large number of columnar crystals are formed on the bottom side of the overlayer. The average microhardness of the overlayer increased from 221 H V to 254 H V by 14.9%, the shear strength increased from 696 MPa to 882 MPa with an increase of 26.7% and the transverse average residual stress decreased from 102.71 MPa (tensile stress) to -18.33 MPa (compressive stress), the longitudinal average residual stress decreased from 114.87 MPa (tensile stress) to -84.64 MPa (compressive stress). The fracture surface has been appeared obvious shear lip marks and a few dimples. The element migrates at the fusion boundary between the Ni-based alloy overlayer and the austenitic stainless steel joint, which is leaded to form a local martensite zone and appear hot cracks. The welded joint is cooled by FA solidification mode, which is forming a large number of late and skeleton ferrite phase with an average microhardness of 190 H V and no obvious change in shear strength. The base metal is all austenitic phase with an average microhardness of 206 H V and shear strength of 696 MPa.

In order to understand the characteristics of leachate at the Seokdae municipal waste landfill in the Pusan city, the correlation between leachate pollution loading and volume of gas production. concentration of gas and subsidence of ground, the characteristical methos, geochemical analyses and laboratory column tests using samples of gases, leachate and surface soil of Seokdae waste landfill area. Through the analysis of water balance, leachate flow rate and pollution loading were estimated. Geistatistical analysis of four gas components ( $O_2$, C $H_4$, $H_2$S and CO) shows the possibility of ground subsidence around the group of a site with high concentration of gas. From geochemical analyses of leachate, EC and Total-Alkalinity of ground subsidence around the group of a site with high concentration of gas. From geochemical analysis of leachate, Ec and Total-Alkalinity were increased, and Cl, Cr, Mn, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb were decreassed comparing to the part, and the type of water quality was Na-HC $O_3$ in trilinear diagram. It shows that biodecomposition of municipal wastes continues actively. From the analysis of water balance, the total leachate flow rate is about 465.11㎥/day and pure pollution loading of Cl, Mn and Fe are estimated to 223.8kg/day, 0.2kg/day, 0.3kg/day, respectively. The laboratory column test of residual soil and landfill soil shows 0.206cm and 0.019cm for linear velocity(equation omitted), 0.234 $\textrm{cm}^2$/min and 0.018$\textrm{cm}^2$/min for diffusion coefficient ( $D_{ι}$), and 1.136cm and 0.095cm longitudinal dispersion index ($\alpha$$_{ι}$), respective]y. It demonstrates that the delay time of contamination for residual soil is shorter than that of landfill soil.
This study was conducted to monitor residual pesticides in ginseng and balloon flower roots and to assess their risk to human health. All of 112 samples consisted of ginseng and balloon roots were purchased from traditional domestic markets and supermarkets in nine provinces of Korea in 2012. Multi-residue analysis of 122 pesticides was conducted and the analysis was performed by gas chromatography-electron capture detector, gas chromatography- nitrogen/phosphorus detector, and high-performance liquid chromatography. Seven pesticides were detected in 12 root samples and the detection rate was 10.7%. The detected twelve root samples were 10 ginseng root samples and 2 balloon root samples. Pesticides detected in root samples were procymidone, kresoxim-methyl, endosulfan, cypermethrin, tralomethrin, tetraconazole and chlorfluazuron. Among them, two pesticides as tetraconazole in a balloon flower root and cypermethrin in a ginseng root exceeded the recommended maximum residue limit set by Korea Food and Drug Administration. Five pesticides detected from 10 root samples were identified as unregistered pesticides in Korea. In order to do risk assessment with Korean medicinal plant consumption, estimated daily intake of residual pesticides were determined and compared to acceptable daily intake, referring to %ADI values. The range of %ADI values was from 0.006% to 0.333%. Taken together, it demonstrates the pesticides found in the two root samples were below the safety margin, indicating no effect on human health.
With the 1 ton/day-class entrained-bed gasification system, heavy residual oil from local refinery was gasified at the operating conditions of 1,000~1,20$0^{\circ}C$ and 3 $kg_f$/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in order to determine the variation of syngas composition, carbon conversion, and cold gas efficiency. Produced syngas consists of mainly CO, H$_2$, $CO_2$, and the methane concentrations. Results yielded a maximum syngas composition of 45% H$_2$ and 26%, CO at the 31 kg/hr feeding condition. The maximum carbon conversion and cold gas efficiency were 87% and 68%, respectively at the feeding conditions of 20 kg/hr and oxygen/feed ratio of 1.2. When oxygen feeding amount that is one of the most important operating parameter in gasification was increased, concentration of hydrogen in the syngas is greatly increased comparing to the concentration of CO and $CO_2$. The temperature exhibited about 11$0^{\circ}C$ raise while oxygen/feed ratio changed from 0.6 to 1.2. Methane concentration showed enhanced dropping rate with increase in gasifier temperature and the useful relationship between the gasifier temperature and methane concentration existed such that it can be employed as an indirect measure of inside gasifier temperature.
