  • As the number of multimedia applications increases, various protocols and architectures have been proposed to provide QoS(Quality of Service) guarantees in the Internet. Most of these techniques, though, bear inherent contradiction between the scalability and the capability of providing QoS guarantees. In this paper, we propose a protocol, named DQSP(Dynamic QoS Support Protocol), which provides the dynamic resource allocation and admission control for QoS guarantees in a scalable way. In DQSP, the core routers only maintain the per source-edge router resource allocation state information. Each of the source-edge routers maintains the usage information for the resources allocated to itself on each of the network links. Based on this information, the source edge routers perform admission control for the incoming flows. For the resource reservation and admission control, DQSP does not incur per flow signaling at the core network, and the amount of state information at the core routers depends on the scale of the topology instead of the number of user flows. Simulation results show that DQSP achieves efficient resource utilization without incurring the number of user flow related scalability problems as with IntServ, which is one of the representative architectures providing end-to-end QoS guarantees.

  • A ' Virtual Private Network (YPN) over Internet' has the benefits of being cost-effective and flexible. However, given the increasing demands for high bandwidth Internet and for reliable services in a 'VPN over Intemet,' an IP/GMPLS over DWDM backbone network is regarded as a very favorable approach for the future 'Optical VPN (OVPN)' due to the benefits of transparency and high data rate. Nevertheless, OVPN still has survivability issues such that a temporary fault can lose a large amount of data in seconds, moreover unauthorized physical attack can also be made on purpose to eavesdrop the network through physical components. Also, logical attacks can manipulate or stop the operation of GMPLS control messages and menace the network survivability of OVPN. Thus, network survivability in OVPN (i.e. fault/attack tolerant recovery mechanism considering physical structure and optical components, and secured transmission of GMPLS control messages) is rising as a critical issue. In this Paper, we propose a new path establishment scheme under shared risk link group (SRLG) constraint for physical network survivability. And we also suggest a new logical survivability management mechanism by extending resource reservation protocol-traffic engineering extension (RSVP-TE+) and link management protocol (LMP). Finally, according to the results of our simulation, the proposed algorithms are revealed more effective in the view point of survivability.

  • In the wireless ATM networks, a Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is required to support an integrated mix of multimedia traffic services. The MAC protocol should be designed in a way that the limited wireless bandwidth can be efficiently utilized maximizing the Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees for various traffic service classes. In this paper, a Dynamic Resource Allocation-based MAC protocol, which satisfies QoS of each traffic service class in the wireless ATM environment, is proposed. The proposed MAC protocol adopts the dynamic channel allocation schemes for a mix of different traffic service classes. The suggested MAC protocol is designed to provide the QoS guarantees for Constant Bit Rate (CBR) or real-time Variable Bit Rate (VBR) traffic through fixed or dynamic reservation. For Available Bit Rate (ABH) traffic, which has the lowest priority among the traffic classes, large improvement in delay by reserving the minimum bandwidth is shown. And for real-time VBR traffic, increase in throughput of transmission is demonstrated because of bandwidth, which is allocated through contention at the initial phase and without contention thereafter.

  • ETF made the RFCs of MPLS technologies for providing the QoS of ATM or Frame Relay and the flexibility&scalability of IP on the Internet services. IETF has been expanding MPLS technologies as a common control component for supporting the various switching technologies called GMPLS. Also, IETF has standardized the signaling protocols based on such technologies, such as LDP, CR-LDP and RSVP-TE. ETRI developed the MPLS system based on ATM switch in order to provide more reliable services, differentiated services and value-added services like the VPN and traffic engineering service on the Korea Public Sector network. We are planning on deploying model services and commercial services on that network. This paper explains the basic functions of LDP, design and development of LDP on our system, and compares with LDP development and operation on other MPLS systems made by Cisco, Juniper, Nortel and Riverstone. In conclusion, this paper deduces the future services and applications by LDP through these explanation and comparison.

  • In this paper, the modified aviation TDMA protocol that can improve the aeronautical communication spectrum utilization is studied to satisfy the increasing air traffic demands. Currently European states proposed the scheme reducing the channel spacing from current 25 kHz to 8.33 kHz and U. S. FAA proposed the system using TDMA technique that divides access into four parallel circuits. The modified aviation TDMA protocol can complement the defects of these current systems. In modified aviation TDMA protocol, message channel that is used between aircraft and ground station is divided into uplink channel and downlink channel. After receiving the acknowledgement of the reservation request, aircraft sends messages at the allocated slots. Numerical analysis and simulation results show that the modified aviation TDMA scheme has high channel efficiency in the aviation environment.

  • WiMedia UWB technology is a fully distributed data communication technology developed for the application demanding a high data transmission rate in the wireless PAN area. In general, devices can send data either by reserving time slots or by using prioritized CSMA/CA. If the PCA protocol of prioritized CSMA/CA is used, they are suffered congestion as the number of devices increases. In this paper, we propose a Deterministic Access Protocol(DAP) in WiMedia WPANs. A DAP is a method to transmit data in the non-reserved DRP period without competition as each device informs the beacon order information in the beacon period and the queue information. In addition, the problem that the devices with a lower beacon slot number have more transmission opportunities is addressed by introducing the reference point. Simulation results are given to demonstrate that a DAP can improve the throughput and reduce the packet loss rate.

  • In this paper, WiMedia Distributed-MAC protocol is adopted for development of a seamless N-screen wireless service. Furthermore, to provide the OSMU (One Source Multi Use) N-screen service through P2P streaming in the seamless D-MAC protocol, a new Multicast-free DRP Availability IE is proposed and analyzed. In this Multicast-free DRP Availability IE, indicating Multicast DRP Owner and Receiver is required. The ACK frame transmissions are not required for Multicast transmissions in P2P N-screen services. Using this property, the Multicast-free DRP Availability IE scheme is proposed to expand the number of time slots available for unicast and multicast DRP reservations. Simulation results show that our Multicast scheme enhances performances in vewpoints of DRP reservation conflict and throughput.

  • In this paper, we propose the AMBM(: Adaptive Multi-channel Backoff Machisum) -Mac protocol to provide high throughput for non-safety applications in VANET(: Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks) environment. The proposed protocol guarantees the quality of service of non-safety packets by dynamically adjusting CW(: Channel Window) of WSA(: WAVE Service Advertisement) to maximize throughput between non-safety packets of different priority. It also shows that allocating a large amount of time for channel coordination and time slot reservation for SC and dynamically adjusting CW and CCI as nodes increase to reduces transmission delay than IEEE 1609.9, C-MAC(: Coordinated multi-channel MAC, and Q-VCI(: QoS Variable CCH Interval) protocols.

  • In a recent wireless network environments, dynamic host configuration protocol (BHCP) service is used to assign IP addresses to mobile terminals. In IPv6 networks, it is necessary to introduce the concept of handoff to support a seamless service to mobile terminals. In a general soft handoff technique used by code-division multiple acces (CDMA) communication systems, the powers received to base station are simply compared to determine which base station will handle the signal to and from each mobile termins. However, in IPv6 network, to transmit data-oriented services, it is necessary to support an enhanced soft handoff technique with more security and quality of service. In this paper, we propose a scheme to reduce a signaling process of handoff in IPv6 network. Also, we propose a technique to reduce wasted reservation resources and to guarantee quality of service (QoS) using DHCP.
