  • Feature-based similarity retrieval become an important research issue in image database systems. The features of image data are useful to discrimination of images. In this paper, we propose the highspeed k-Nearest Neighbor search algorithm based on Self-Organizing Maps. Self-Organizing Map(SOM) provides a mapping from high dimensional feature vectors onto a two-dimensional space. A topological feature map preserves the mutual relations (similarity) in feature spaces of input data, and clusters mutually similar feature vectors in a neighboring nodes. Each node of the topological feature map holds a node vector and similar images that is closest to each node vector. We implemented about k-NN search for similar image classification as to (1) access to topological feature map, and (2) apply to pruning strategy of high speed search. We experiment on the performance of our algorithm using color feature vectors extracted from images. Promising results have been obtained in experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose a PC based immersive virtual environment system with expandability and compatibility in contrary to existing immersive virtual environment(IVE) systems which have been implemented by supercomputer or special computing system. The application based on commercial personal compute may have two major advantage: one is variety of resources, the other is user-friendly interface. This system intends to offer easy contact to IVE system, realistic images, and convenience. Also, the system can handle various virtual reality at real-time and make it easier to interface existing complicated haptic device. Geometric techniques are adopted to calculate and visualize the physical phenomenon to speed up the computing time. The proposed implementation method of PC based immersive virtual environment system is implemented to the example in which user move around inside of and interact with virtual office environment wearing data glove, behavior recognition devices, and HMD.

  • Load managing method on road became necessary since overloaded vehicles occur damage on road facilities and existing systems for preventing this damage still show many problems. Accordingly, efficient managing system for preventing overloaded vehicles could be organized by using the road itself as a scale by applying genetic algorithm to analyze the load and the drive information of vehicles. First of all, accurate analysis of load using the behavior of road itself is needed for solving illegal axle manipulation problems of overloaded vehicles and for installing intelligent embedded load analyzing system. Accordingly in this study, to use the behavior of road, the transformation was measured by installing underground box type indoor model and indoor experiment was held using genetic algorithm and 10% error were checked.

  • The monitoring system for link travel speed using taxi probe is one of key sub-systems of ITS. Link travel speed collected by taxi probe has been widely employed for both monitoring the traffic states of urban road network and providing real-time travel time information. When sample size of taxi probe is small and link travel time is longer than a length of time interval to collect travel speed data, and in turn the missing state is inevitable. Under this missing state, link travel speed data is real-timely not collected. This missing state changes from single to multiple time intervals. Existing single interval prediction techniques can not generate multiple future states. For this reason, it is necessary to replace multiple missing states with the estimations generated by multi-interval prediction method. In this study, a multi-interval prediction method to generate the speed estimations of single and multiple future time step is introduced overcoming the shortcomings of short-term techniques. The model is developed based on Non-Parametric Regression (NPR), and outperformed single-interval prediction methods in terms of prediction accuracy in spite of multi-interval prediction scheme.

  • The worldwide CPV(Concentrated Photo Voltaic) market has been increased rapidly due to the increase in large-scale PV(Photo Voltaic) plants which are situated in sun-rich areas with either a Mediterranean or equatorial-type climate. CPV systems are arguably some of the most important devices in the production of electricity within regions with a sun-rich climate, particularly those which benefit from abundant direct solar irradiation. We have developed a 500X CPV module with rated power of 170Wp. The CPV module must satisfy the constraint of having a sensitive tracking accuracy due to the limited tolerance of the acceptance angle in intrinsic optical design. In this study, the module's acceptance angle used was designed with a tolerance angle of ${\pm}1^{\circ}$ in the secondary optics design. In general, non-concentrated module type 2-axis trackers have a tolerance angle larger than ${\pm}1^{\circ}$ due to standard silicon-type modules which are insensitive to the tracking accuracy of the sun. They have a tolerance angle of ${\pm}2{\sim}4^{\circ}$, which fails to exert a significant influence on the performance of the module. This paper provides a study of an experimental variation of the efficiency of the CPV module in terms of its tracking accuracy. Also, the performance of the module is studied from the perspective of temperature and direct irradiation.

  • Over the last five years, 568 people have died while hiking according to 2015 statistics from the public safety ministry. Among those deaths, approximately 33% were due to loss of footing or falling. In this respect, the highly advanced functions of hiking boots should be considered to prevent these unfortunate accidents. For example, by utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) and Information and Communications Technology (ICT), hiking boots equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) or vital signs monitoring systems should be considered. In addition, many challenges remain for the production of 3D printed hiking boots, because the functions of hiking boots are variable, which is important when handling changing terrains and situations. The design of customized hiking boots was introduced in this paper, and 3D printing applications for midsoles using a Porous Polymer Printing (PPP) method was also suggested to verify the possibility of manufacturing hiking boots.

  • The major objective of the present study is to extend the applications of inverse analysis to more realistic engineering fields with a complex combustion process rather than the traditional simple heat-transfer problems. In order to do this, the unknown initial mass fractions of $CH_4/O_2$ are estimated from the temperature measurement data by inverse analysis in the practical diffusion-controlled turbulent combustion problem. In order to ensure efficient inverse analysis, the repulsive particle swarm optimization (RPSO) method, which belongs to the class of stochastic evolutionary global optimization methods, is implemented as an inverse solver. Based on this study, it is expected that useful information can be obtained when inverse analysis is used in the diagnosis, design, or optimization of real combustion systems involving unknown parameters.

  • Recently, research using machine learning have shown remarkable results in various domains, leading to the fact that leaning-based dispatchers have intrigued interest in both academia and industry. To improve the performance of the dispatcher, each dispatch decision needs to be evaluated in detail. However, existing studies on visualization techniques for manufacturing lines have mainly focused on illustrating the performance indicators or abnormal patterns. In this paper, we propose a monitoring system that displays a variety of information about the manufacturing line along with alternatives at the time of each dispatching decision being made. Furthermore, the proposed system effectively represents the cause of the idle time of resources and the change of the performance index over time.

  • The demand for electric power is increasing every year in Korea. All the systems adopted at power stations in order to generate and transmit electric power should operate in perfect condition or reliability. The device for transmitting the generated high-voltage electric power is 6 kV CV single core cables. The manufacturing companies of the cables makes an official announcement that the operating lifetime of their cables is about 30years. But from the moment of operation the deterioration precesses of worsening the characteristics of cables starts. Since the reliability for the status of installed cables in deterioration has not been diagnosed, the cables can be broken at any unexpected moments. In order to prevent the abrupt cable accident by systematically monitoring the cable status, we have invented the first device in Korea. We have installed our device at Korea Western Power Co. Ltd. in order to diagnose the live cables. In this paper, we present our research results of measured temperatures of inner conductor and surface and the compared results of those data with other cable company. We also show that our results agree with those made by other company.
