  • In order to prolong the Shin-Hallyu and make a significant leap forward, we analyzed the characteristics of Jambinai, Singsing Band, and Ackdan Gwangchil, bands that are recognized globally for their musicality and popularity. First, the socio-cultural background behind the world's attention on korean traditional music lies in the racial and cultural diversity that embraces the non-mainstream identity. In particular, the success of Korean traditional music fusion bands in non-Asian countries can satisfy their public seeking to enjoy an exotic culture that is different from Western culture. it is necessary to recognize cultural, social and musical differences depending on the country or ethnicity and to approach them accordingly. Second, in the same Asian region, Korean traditional music is not given a sense of homogeneity, but in the West, the Eastern heterogeneity seems to have become a stronger ompetitive edge. With the expansion of the new Korean Wave to various regions, it is necessary to try to form a regional repertoire. Third, we found the validity of the convergence with the new Korean Wave through the characteristics of Gugak musicians as the main body to build a world of traditional music and enable popularization and globalization. It is necessary to highlight korea's traditional cultural value through analytical research on the effects of tone, composition and directing techniques reflected in korean traditional music or musical elements. The uniqueness and Korean values provided by Gugak will serve as homogeneity in Asia and heterogeneity in Europe and the United States, presenting the possibility of New Hallyu content and contributing to the prolonged Korean Wave.

  • Natural dyeing has traditionally been used in many countries around the world, and as natural dyes are diversified, the diversity of dyeing patterns is also expanding. This study tried to establish standardization by providing numerical values that could provide quantified information to the Internet of Things by more accurately analyzing the color changes of dyes and mordants for the four natural dyes. The addition of copper acetate, iron II sulfate and potassium dichromate to the dye extracted from Juglans regia Linn changed the original color of brown to other colors of purple, khaki and dark brown, respectively. Except for potassium dichromate added to Sophora japonica L. or Phellodendron amurense Ruprecht, the concentration of other mordants was reduced, but the color difference of the dyed silk was very large. However, although there is a difference in degree, copper acetate and iron sulfate induced color changes of 35% and 15%, respectively. In summary, it was confirmed that the highest color change was induced when 15 grams of copper acetate was added to J. regia Linn, S. japonica L. and P. amurense Ruprecht and 150 grams of iron to Phytolacca americana. The results of this study suggested that the accurate color change by various mordants can be utilized as important information that enables more accurate color induction by dyes and mordants.

  • Using environmental DNA (eDNA) in the fisheries and oceanography fields, research on the diversity of biological species, the presence or absence of specific species and quantitative evaluation of species has considerably been performed. Up to date, no study on eDNA has been tried in the area of fisheries acoustics in Korea. In this study, the biomass of a dominant species in the northwestern waters of Jeju Island was examined using 1) the catch ratio of the species from trawl survey results and 2) the ranking ratio of the species from the eDNA results. The dominant species was Zoarces gillii, and its trawl catch ratio was 68.2% and its eDNA ratio was 81.3%. The Zoarces gillii biomass from the two methods was 7199.4 tons (trawl) and 8584.6 tons (eDNA), respectively. The mean and standard deviation of the acoustic backscattering strength values (120 kHz) from the entire survey area were 135.5 and 157.7 m2/nm2, respectively. The strongest echo signal occurred at latitude 34° and longitude 126°15' (northwest of Jeju Island). High echo signals were observed in a specific oceanographic feature (salinity range of 32-33 psu and the water temperature range of 19-20℃). This study was a pilot study on evaluating quantitatively aquatic resources by applying the eDNA technique into acoustic-trawl survey method. Points to be considered for high-quality quantitative estimation using the eDNA to fisheries acosutics were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate a dietary education program to improve the caring ability and multicultural acceptance of middle school students. Based on the instructional system design of ADDIE model, the dietary education program was developed to contain five sessions including four theoretical lectures and one lab session. Visual thinking technique was used to train students to express their thoughts and emotion by writing and drawing. The dietary education program was conducted for four weeks (from November 19 to December 14, 2018) at a middle school located in Seoul on a total of 69 middle school students, out of which 34 were assigned to an experimental group and 35 were assigned to a control group. Separate paired t-test were conducted for the experimental group and the control group, respectively, to determine the changes in caring ability and multicultural acceptance scores before and after the dietary education. There were significant increases in caring ability (dietary-, emotional-, behavioral- and cognitive caring) and multicultural acceptance (diversity, relationship and universality) scores among the experimental group after the dietary program. However, no differences were observed among the control group. The results indicate that the dietary education program can be an effective tool to improve caring ability and multicultural acceptance of middle school students.

  • This study was conducted to examine the effects of grass vegetation (W: manual weeding, NW: herbicide sprays) and pyrethroid spray (P: pyrethroid spray, NP: no pyrethroid spray) on the population dynamics of Panonychus citri and natural enemies in citrus orchards. Two essential hypothesis were made to test the population dynamics: 1) weed planting promotes natural enemies by offering habitat and alternative food sources, resulting in the reduction of P. citri populations, and 2) pyrethroid spray removes natural enemies by its non-selective toxicity, resulting in the increasement of P. citri populations. The observed natural enemy populations (mainly Phytoseiids and Agistemus sp.) were not different largely from the expected values in the hypothesis, which assumes more abundant natural enemies in weeds and no pyrethroid plots. Although some discrepancy was occurred in NW+NP and W+NP plots in 2011, the observed values were almost same with expected values in 2012. In overall, pesticide effect was strongly significant and pyrthroids removed largely natural enemies. Although habitat (weeds) effect showed a conflict result, natural enemy population increased in plots allowing weed growth, when considering the increased autumn population relatively compared to that of spring-summer population. The decreased abnormal P. citri populations in pyrethroid plots could be explained under the assumption of a strong repellent behavior of P. citri to the pyrethroids.

  • This study is a study on the regulatory focus and entrepreneurship that affect entrepreneurial motivation under uncertainty. In the empirical analysis results between the prevention focus, risk taking, and economic entrepreneurial motive, which were not observed in previous studies in Korea, this study tried to supplementally verify the previous studies by focusing on the limitations of the sample suggested as limitations. In particular, under a special external environment where uncertainty is deepening due to COVID-19 and the economic situation is being severely hit, we regressively analyze regulatory focus and risk taking, which are innate personal characteristics that can affect entrepreneurial motives. The mediating effect of risk taking was demonstrated. As a result of the empirical results, it was found that the prevention focus, risk taking, and economic entrepreneurial motivation had a significant effect, and it was shown that risk taking had a mediating effect between the prevention focus and the economic entrepreneurial motivation. This result is meaningful as a result not observed in previous studies, and it is judged that the control focus, which is an individual characteristic with a large innate tendency, interacts with the risk taking of the acquired tendency to influence the motivation to start a business. The results of this study can be of practical help by understanding and concentrating on regulatory focus and risk taking when conducting entrepreneurship or entrepreneurship education programs to entrepreneurs who dream of or want to start a business amid the growing uncertainty of the external environment. On the other hand, it is necessary to confirm whether these results, which are different from previous studies, are the effect of sample diversity or the external environment such as Corona 19, and re-verification through additional research is needed in the future.

  • The debate of South-North transboundary rivers must be expanded from the existing cooperation in water resources towards cooperation within ecosystem conservation. Regarding the Han and Imjin rivers confluence water system, the nature of the estuarine ecosystem must be conserved considering the aspect of climate change. Furthermore, the agenda of maintaining continuous inter-Korean communication and cooperation should focus on ecosystem conservation, including conserving migratory species that inhabit both Koreas. Notably, within the Han and Imjin rivers confluence, transboundary rivers are abundant legally protected species such as Grus vipio, Anser fabalis, Anser cygnoides, Platalea minor, Lutra lutra, Prionailurus bengalensis which suggests a strong need for a debate regarding habitat conservation. This study analyzed the ecosystem conditions and environmental aspects within the confluence of Han and Imjin rivers. In addition, this study provided step wise approach of ecosystem conservation that consider conditions for potential direct inter-Korean cooperation. The inter-Korean cooperation mentioned in this study will be developed into legitimate cooperation once the results from monitoring the ecosystem of transboundary rivers, awareness raising are exchanged.

  • The research was based on long-term studies on the major physico-chemical and hydrological factors and zooplankton community dynamics in the Hwang River. We had 341 times survey and collected zooplankton samples in the Hwang River of mid-Nakdong River from 1995 to 2013. We identified 97 zooplankton species, including 77 rotifers, 16 cladocerans, and 4 copepods. The total zooplankton abundance and species diversity were shown distinctive temporal variation (ANOVA, p<0.001). Annual average of zooplankton population density was 58.4±3.2 ind L-1 (n=341) and the lowest was 17.0±3.8 ind L-1 (1996, n=20), while the highest was 151.5±32.3 ind L-1 (2010, n=22). For zooplankton, small rotifer groups(e.g., Keratella sp., Brachionus sp., Trichotria sp.) dominated the study site for 19 years survey. Statistical analysis revealed that there were positive relationships with SiO2 (p=0.002) and water level (p<0.001) for the high abundance of rotifer community. There were considerable variations both the total cladocerans population and the number of cladocerans' species concerning annual precipitation. Despite the appearance of various zooplankton in the Hwang River, the mean population density remained low. Due to the lateral structures in the Nakdong River, the downstream basin of the Hwang River is inevitably affected. The zooplankton community in our study site is considered to be mainly influenced by external factors that can stably increase and maintain the volume of the water body and internal factors that induce an increase in food sources through the inflow of nutrients into the water body.

  • Numerous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) produced by periodic combinations of organic ligands and metal ions or metal-oxo clusters have led the way for the creation of energy-efficient membrane-based separations that may serve as viable replacements for traditional thermal counterparts. Although tremendous progress has been made over the past decade in the synthesis of polycrystalline MOF membranes, only a small number of MOFs have been exploited in the relevant research. Intercrystalline defects, or nonselective diffusion routes in polycrystalline membranes, are likely the reason behind the delay. Postsynthetic modifications (PSMs) are newly emerging strategies for providing polycrystalline MOF membrane diversity by leveraging advanced membranes as a platform and improving their separation capabilities via physical and/or chemical treatments; therefore, neither designing and developing MOFs nor tailoring membrane synthesis techniques for focused MOFs is necessary. In this minireview, seven subclasses of PSM techniques that have recently been adapted to polycrystalline MOF membranes are outlined, along with obstacles and future directions.
