The study of the status of teaching and learning and needs assessment for 'The basis of the Invention Patent' subjects ('발명.특허 기초' 과목의 교수.학습 방법 실태 및 요구 조사 연구)

  • This study aims to analyze the teaching and learning methods realities and needs in the subjects 'The basis of the Invention Patent'. To this end, research and analysis of the subjects 'The basis of the Invention Patent' the teacher and take advantage of their current teaching and learning methods, 'The basis of the Invention Patent' subject teachers to recognize the most desirable teaching and learning methods, subjects 'The basis of the Invention Patent' of teaching and learning and the operating requirements of the difficult matters. Survey of 48 schools across the country in high school teachers to teach the subjects 'The basis of the Invention Patent' was conducted, the results of this study are as follows. First, a high percentage of theoretical learning activities, teaching methods, such as 'lectures' and take advantage of the higher percentage. Module was to conduct classes such as 'project', 'lab experiments', 'discussion', 'investigation' by taking advantage of the high proportion of practice learning activities. Second, Higher requirements for the experience and practice of student-centered 'lab experiments', 'project', 'Case Studies', 'field trips' and theory-driven rather than 'lectures'. Third, 'The basis of the Invention Patent' subjects 'Teaching and learning important when operating requirements for the degree' as a whole was highly recognized. in particular, operating requirements for teaching and learning in accordance with the former college of education of education than non-group differences were higher overall response.   • The construction industry in Korea has seen significant improvements in quality management techniques, driven by the dramatic development of new technology through Manhattanization and enlargements, but compared with technical development, the level of building quality improvement is still lagging behind. In the meantime, as the interest in construction quality soars due to changes in user consciousness, the level of quality that is being demanded is rising. The government has reinforced quality systems by implementing responsible supervision requirements and granting overseas companies permission to enter the supervision business in Korea, and private sector companies also are attempting quality improvement through quality assurance approaches like the preliminary qualification screening system and ISO 9000 series. But currently, building constructions are done only according to the construction specifications of project owners, whose design, materials and construction methods are already decided, and do not leave any necessity or opportunity for technical developments for the quality improvement of contractors. Therefore, in this study, a work process and system improvement plan for payment regulations is proposed, with which contractors can secure quality voluntarily in the building construction phase.

  • Recently, Vecna BEAR type robot to save injured individuals from inaccessible areas has been developed to minimize the loss of life. Because this robot is driven on rough terrain, there is a risk of rollover and vibration, which could impact the injured. In order to guarantee its stability, an algorithm is required that can estimate the speed limits for various environments in real time. Therefore, a dynamic model for real-time analysis is needed for this algorithm. Because the tracks used as the driving component of Vecna BEAR type robot consist of many parts, it is impossible to analyze the multibody tracks in real time. Thus, a lumped track model that satisfies the requirements of a short computation time and adequate accuracy is required. This study performed lumped track modeling, and the traction force was verified using RecurDyn, which is a dynamic commercial program.

A Buffer Management Scheme to Maximize the Utilization of System Resources for Variable Bit Rate Video-On-Demand Servers (가변 비트율 주문형 비디오 서버에서 자원 활용률을 높이기 위한 버퍼 관리 기법)

  • Video-On-Demand servers use compression techniques to reduce the storage and bandwidth requirements. The compression techniques make the bit rates of compressed video data significantly variable from frame to frame. Consequently, Video-On-Demand servers with a constant bit rate retrieval can not maximize the utilization of resources. It is possible that when variable bit rate video data is stored, accurate description of the bit rate changes could be computed a priori. In this paper, I propose a buffer management scheme called MAX for Video-On-Demand server using variable bit rate continuous media. By caching and prefetching the data, MAX buffer management scheme reduces the variation of the compressed data and increases the number of clients simultaneously served and maximizes the utilization of system resources. Results of trace-driven simulations show the effectiveness of the scheme.

  • There is an increasing interest in migration legacy systems to new hardware platforms and to new software development paradigms. The reason is that high maintenance costs and lack of documentation. In order to migrate or transform legacy system, various approaches such as screen scrapping, wrapping, semi-development, and re-development, tools, and methodologies are introduced until now. However, architecture or requirements level's transformation is not suggested because most of those approaches focus on code-level transformation or a few model-level transform. In this paper, we suggest a meta-model driven approach applying 3D space concept, which can be applied into architecture and requirement phase. Proposed integrated model drives seamless migration or co-evolution from code to architecture of reverse engineering and from architecture to code of forward engineering.

Performance Qualification Test of the CRDM for JRTR (요르단 연구용원자로 제어봉구동장치의 성능검증시험)

  • A control rod drive mechanism(CRDM) is a reactor regulating system, which inserts, withdraws or maintains a control rod containing a neutron absorbing material within a reactor core to control the reactivity of the core. The top-mounted CRDM for Jordan Research and Training Reactor(JRTR) with 5 MW power has been designed and fabricated based on the HANARO's experience through KAERI and DAEWOO consortium project. This paper describes the performance qualification test results to demonstrate the operability of a prototype and four production CRDMs during the reactor lifetime. The driving performance, the drop performance and the endurance tests for CRDM are carried out at a test rig simulating the actual reactor conditions. A vibration of internal components due to the coolant flow is also measured using a laser vibrometer. As a result, the CRDMs are driven having a good driving performance without a malfunction between command and output signals for the stepping motor. Also, the pure drop time and the impact acceleration are within 0.72 s and 4.2 g to meet the design requirements, and the vibrational displacement of control rod is measured as maximum $5.2{\mu}m$.

  • Wireless sensor networks have been studied with two typical applications called event-driven and periodic monitoring. Although these applications have different core requirements, they have the same low latency requirement. However, main issue of the protocol in wireless sensor networks was focused on an energy efficiency, so it has not considered the latency problem. In this paper, we propose the RA-MAC, an energy efficient and low latency MAC protocol using a new channel access mechanism and the RTS Aggregation scheme for wireless sensor networks. Our simulation results show that the RA-MAC provides energy savings and latency reduction.

  • Cornering maneuvers with reduced body roll and without comfort loss are important requirements for car manufacturers. An electric active roll control(ARC) system controls the body roll angle by using motor-driven actuators installed at the centers of the front and rear stabilizer bars. Co-simulation using the Matlab/Simulink controller model and the CarSim vehicle model was proposed to evaluate the performance of the ARC control algorithm. To validate the performance of the ARC actuator and system, bench tests and vehicle tests were proposed.

  • The development of personal computers and the Internet led to changes of instructor-student and student-student relationships in design education. New resources of design education with proper materials and tools have to be offered for teaching and learning. The purpose of this research is to develop Basic Graphic Tools(BGTs) on screen that help students to practice the design principles, and to evaluate the BGTs' usability to enhance the credibility of extra tools for online design learning. The BGTs has to be developed to minimize the gap between the online and traditional classroom settings and to maximize the diverse advantage of lecture content driven from technology. Students were given certain design requirements to explore BGTs and a learning guide/performance test after the lecture to evaluate the tools. The test was performed under the e-learning program serviced by C college. This research has presented some encouraging results and raises questions toward future work: how do BGTs impact the feasibility of an online design lecture.

Vibration-based structural health monitoring for offshore wind turbines - Experimental validation of stochastic subspace algorithms

  • The efficiency of wind turbines (WT) is primarily reflected in their ability to generate electricity at any time. Downtimes of WTs due to "conventional" inspections are cost-intensive and undesirable for investors. For this reason, there is a need for structural health monitoring (SHM) systems, to enable service and maintenance on demand and to increase the inspection intervals. In general, monitoring increases the cost effectiveness of WTs. This publication concentrates on the application of two vibration-based SHM algorithms for stability and structural change monitoring of offshore WTs. Only data driven, output-only algorithms based on stochastic subspace identification (SSI) in time domain are considered. The centerpiece of this paper deals with the rough mathematical description of the dynamic behavior of offshore WTs and with the basic presentation of stochastic subspace-based algorithms and their application to these structures. Due to the early stage of the industrial application of SHM on offshore WT on the one side and the required confidentiality to the plant manufacturer and operator on the other side, up to now it is not possible to analyze different isolated structural damages resp. changes in a systematic manner, directly by means of in-situ measurement and to make these "acknowledgements" publicly available. For this reason, the sensitivity of the methods for monitoring purposes are demonstrated through their application on long time measurements from a 1:10 large scale test rig of an offshore WT under different conditions: undamaged, different levels of loosened bolt connections between tower parts, different levels of fouling, scouring and structure inclination. The limitation and further requirements for the approaches and their applicability on real foundations are discussed along the paper.
