  • Walking on split-belt treadmill has been applied to study walking disabilities, such as osteoarthritis (OA), to show asymmetric walking characteristics. In this study, we compared asymmetric walking in OA patients with healthy subjects under split-belt conditions and examined the reproduction of walking asymmetry in OA. Seven OA patients were instructed to walk at four frequencies, while four healthy subjects walked on a treadmill with tied-belt and split-belt conditions. To compare walking asymmetries, kinetic and kinematic measurements were made using force-plates and motion capture cameras, and subsequently center of mass (CoM) velocity, mechanical work and potential energy were calculated. Horizontal velocity change during split-belt walking of healthy subjects was similar to OA patients. Difference of mechanical work during single support phase occurred due to fall of CoM in fast belt. OA walking asymmetry could be reproduced by reducing differences of belt speeds to prevent rapid fall of CoM.

  • The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of feeding undegradable intake protein (VIP) on body weight changes and the return to estrus of Awassi ewes during the early postpartum period. Twenty multiparous Awassi ewes $(BW=57.4{\pm}3.0kg)$ were randomly assigned to two dietary treatment (10 ewes per treatment) for 4 weeks in a completely randomized design. Experimental diets were isonitrogenous, isocaloric, and were formulated to contain either 20% (CON) or 35% (SBM) of the dietary CP as UIP. On day $9{\pm}3$ postpartum (day 0=parturition) ewes were housed in individual pens. Feed intake was recorded daily. Dry matter intake (DMI), organic matter intake (OMI), crude protein intake (CPI), undegradable protein intake (UPI) and metabolizable energy intake (MEI) were higher (p<0.05) for ewes on SBM diets compared with ewes on CON diet. Ewes receiving SBM diet gained more (p<0.05) weight than the controls (5.3 vs 0.5 kg). There was a tendency (p>0.10) for SBM ewes to have more luteal activity than the controls. Ewes in the SBM group came into estrus 4 days earlier than CON ewes (p<0.10). These results indicate that Awassi ewes receiving adequate nutrition are capable of returning to estrus one month postpartum thus posing the possibility of being able to lamb every 6 months.

  • This study aimed to investigate the function of the constitutively activating mutation D540G on eel FSHR activity by in vitro functional studies. Site-directed mutagenesis was carried out to generate the D-to-G mutation at position 540 of the pcDNA3-eel FSHR construct. Vectors expressing either wild type or mutant receptor were transfected into Chinese hamster ovary (CHO-K1) cells. The functional characteristics of both the wild type and mutant receptors were analyzed by a cAMP assay. cAMP accumulation was highly increased in cells transfected with the D540G mutant receptor in a dose-dependent manner. Of note, basal cAMP levels were remarkably increased (~13.1-fold) with expression of this mutant when compared to wild type receptor. These findings suggest that the D540G mutation in the eel FSHR may contribute to ovulation during eel sex maturation as well as play a pivotal role in inducing FSHR activity.

  • To evaluate the longevity property of Allium hookeri (Liliaceae) leaves, this study was performed. Ethanol extract of A. hookeri was successively partitioned as methylene chloride, ethyl acetate, n-butanol and $H_2O$ soluble fractions, and lifespan-extending effects of the fractions were checked using Caenorhabditis elegans model system. The most active ethyl acetate-soluble fraction elevated heat stress tolerance, and increased expression of stress resistance protein. Further studies were performed to investigate several aging-related factors such as reproduction, food intake, growth and movement of C. elegans. The results revealed that there were no significant changes in aging-related factors including reproduction and food intake, however, ethyl acetate-soluble fraction treatment led to up-regulation of locomotory ability and growth of aged worms, suggesting ethyl acetate-soluble fraction affected healthspan as well as lifespan of nematode.

  • This study has examined the metallurgical microstructures and alloy compositions of 3 bronze artifacts, a vessel, a spoon and a chopstick, manufactured in the Koryo Dynasty. The results show that they were made from Cu-Sn alloys whose Sn content ranges from 22 to 24% by weight. It is of significant importance to find that they were all given special thermo-mechanical treatments during their manufacturing. It has been found that the Koryo bronze workers were well aware of the mechanical properties of ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, ${\gamma}$ and ${\delta}$ phases that appear in the Cu-Sn alloys. Knowing how to promote or suppress the formation of each phase, they were able to find proper alloy compositions and temperatures for the high Sn alloys to be successfully forged. The present study will detail the Koryo bronze technology as estimated from the microstructures of the 3 bronze artifacts. The results of the reproduction experiments with Cu-24%Sn will also be presented to explain how the microstructures develop and to estimate the mechanical properties of each phase.

  • Super-realistic content technology has recently attracted attention as a core of the "new normal" that can overcome the spatial constraints caused by pandemics. It is moreover the core that allows users in remote locations to meet and engage in various social, cultural, and economic activities based on a network. Content technology is rapidly spreading beyond the existing entertainment area to various industries as an innovative tool that can be used to overcome space-time constraints and improve the productivity of industrial sites, because reality and virtual reality are now super-connected with ultra-low latency. However, existing services such as teleconferencing and tele-collaboration do not provide a level of realism that replaces face-to-face services, and various technical requirements have been proposed to overcome this. The trends in core technologies such as XR twins, hyper-realistic reproduction, sensory interaction, and emotional recognition technology, which are necessary for interactive realistic content that leads to feelings, from reproduction to experience and emotion, are explained. In this article, our aim is to present the future of realistic content that enables human care and can even overcome psychological difficulties such as the "Corona blues".

  • In many fish species, including Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), gonadal development occurs at the expense of stored energy and nutrients. Therefore, reproductive systems are inhibited by limited food supply. It has been well established that reproductive function is highly sensitive to both metabolic status and energy balance. Nothing is known about the possible mediated connection between energy balance and reproduction. Kisspeptin, a neuropeptide product of the Kiss gene has emerged as an essential gatekeeper of reproduction and may be possibly be linked to energy balance and reproduction in non-mammalians. Thus, in this study, the effect of fasting (10 days) on the expression of kisspeptin and the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) gene were assessed in Nile tilapia (male and female) using qRT-PCR. In addition, plasma levels of estradiol-$17{\beta}$ ($E_2$) and 11-ketotestosterone (11-KT) in adult tilapia were measured by ELISA. In male tilapia, fasting reduced Kiss2 and GnRH I mRNA expression in the brain and 11-KT level in comparison with the fed tilapia (p < 0.05). In females, however, there were no significant differences in GnRH I mRNA expression and $E_2$ between fish subjected to fasting and those fed (p > 0.05). These data indicate the impact of nutritional states on kisspeptin as a potential regulatory mechanism for the control of reproduction in male Nile tilapia.

  • TExhibiting replicas of major artifacts is becoming common recently to raise their value and help the public to understand them. In Korea, more attention is paid only to appearance in creating replicas of artifacts. It is required to study reproduction technology minimizing damages to originals and applicable to massive artifacts like sculptures in the situation that replicas and artifact reproduction is increasing. To make a replica of the Stone Lion Statue excavated from Woljeong Bridge, a measured drawing and a cross section are produced based on art historical surveys using 3D scans. A non-contact reproduction method is selected. The strength of the non-contact reproduction method is that the output is detailed. Athough the non-contact method has known to be applicable only to small scale artifacts and require reprocess, it is discovered to be applicable to detailed statues like this lion statue. Therefore, this study may contribute to complement the historic authenticity of the statue as well as to raise its academic value. It also can be utilized as research material of similar artifacts'replicas and restoration.
