휴믹산이 black shale과 오염물질의 분포에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구 (Effect of Humic acid on the Distribution of the Contaminants with Black Shale)

  • Humic acids are macromolecules originated from natural water, soil, and sediment. The characteristics of humic acid enable it to change the distribution of metals as well as many kinds of organic contaminants and to determine the sorption of them from soil solution. To see the effect of humic acid on the removal rate of organic contaminants and heavy metals, batch-scale experiments were performed. As a natural geosorbent, black shale was used as a sorbent media, which showed hight sorption capacity of trichloroethylene (TCE), lead, cadmium and chromium. The effect of sorption-desorption, pH, ionic strength and the concentration of humic acid was taken into consideration. TCE sorption capacity by black shale was compared to natural bentonite and hexadecyltrimethylammonium (HDTMA) modified bentonite. The removal rate was good and humic acid also sorbed onto black shale very well. The organic part of humic acid could effectively enhance the partition of TCE and it act as an electron donor to reduce Cr(VI) to Cr(III). Cationic metal of Pb(II) and Cd(II) also removed from the water by black shale. With 3 mg/L of humic acid, both Pb(II) and Cd(II) were removed more than without humic acid. That could be explained by sorption and complexation with humic acid and that was possible when humic acid could change the hydrophobicity and solubility of heavy metals. Humic acid exhibited desorption-resistivity with black shale, which implied that black shale could be an alternative sorbent or material for remediation of organic contaminants and heavy metals.

강릉 신복사지 석조보살좌상 보물 제84호 수지상 오염물 제거 방안 연구 (Removing Resin Contaminants from the Seated Stone Buddha (Korean Treasure No.84) of Sinboksa Temple Site in Gangneung)

  • 강릉에 위치한 신복사지 석조보살좌상 보물 제84호 얼굴부에 광택이 있는 수지상 오염물이 고착되어 있었다. 오염의 범위는 백호부터 턱 밑까지이며 광택이 발생하여 미관을 해치고 있었다. 오염물 중 일부를 수거하여 FT-IR 분석을 실시한 결과 시아노아크릴계 순간접착제인 것을 확인하였다. 분석된 접착제는 면봉 등에 아세톤을 묻혀 녹이면서 제거하는 방법이 일반적이다. 그러나 석조보살좌상이 야외에 오랜 시간 노출되어 있어 표면 풍화가 많이 진행된 상태이므로 이를 고려하여 물리적 손상을 최소화하는 방법으로 제거하였다. 기존에 처리된 삼전도비의 페인트 낙서 제거에 적용된 습포법과 도토기의 수지제거에 이용된 증기법을 검토하여 물리적 손상 없이 제거할 수 있는 방법을 찾아보았다. 습포법과 증기법을 같이 적용하면 면봉을 이용한 물리적 작업없이 24시간 이내에 수지가 제거되는 것을 확인하였고 이를 토대로 현장에 적용하였다.

인공토양으로부터 토양증기추출법에 의한 유기화합물의 탈착 현상에 관한 실험 연구 (Desorption of organic Compounds from the Simulated Soils by Soil Vapor Extraction)

  • 토양오염 정화방법의 하나인 토양증기추출법 (soil vapor extraction, SVE) 은 오염된 토양에 진공 또는 가압의 공기를 공급하여 연속적인 공기 흐름을 유도함으로써 토양의 기공에 잔류하는 유해화합물의 증발을 촉진하여 오염물질을 제거하는 공정이다. 본 연구에서는 토양증기추출법의 효율에 영향을 주는 인자들 가운데에서 토양의 수분함량과 오염물질의 종류가 오염물질의 제거효율에 미치는 영향에 대하여 실험연구를 수행하였다. 인공토양으로 미세기공이 없는 glass bead, sand, 그리고 미세기공이 많고 흡착능이 강한 molecular sieve가 사용되었으며, 오염물질로는 톨루엔, 메틸에틸케톤, 트리클로로에틸렌이 사용되었다. 본 연구에서는 오염물질의 탈착실험을 180분 이내로 수행하였으며, 이 범위 내에서는 인공토양으로부터의 유기화합물 탈착 현상에서 제거효율과 기공부피수, 각각에 로그를 취하였을 때 선형적 특성이 나타났다. 여기에서 기공부피수란 반응기를 통과한 공기의 부피를 기공부피로 나눈 것이다. 세 가지 유기화합물 모두 수분함량이 0%일 때 가장 낮은 제거속도를 보였으며 일정량의 수분이 포함됨으로써 유기화합물 제거에 필요한 기공부피수가 현저히 줄어듦을 관찰할 수 있었다. 또한, 트리클로로에틸렌과 같이 밀도가 큰 유기화합물의 제거를 위해서는 많은 양의 기공부피수가 소요되며 따라서 작업시간이 매우 길어지게 되므로, 토양증기추출법 외에 다른 정화방법을 함께 사용하여야 한다. 또한 인공토양의 특성에 따른 유기화합물의 탈착현상에 대하여 조사하였으며, 미세기공의 유무가 오염물질의 탈착속도에 미치는 영향이 톨루엔과 메틸에틸케톤에서 상이하게 나타났음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과는 정화대상지역의 토양특성, 오염물질 등에 대한 조사를 시행한 후 SVE를 이용한 적절한 정화방법을 설계하는데 기초자료로 이용할 수 있을 것이다.

오존과 계면활성제를 이용한 대수층 내 비휘발성 물질 제거 (Removal of Non-volatile Contaminant from Aquifer using Surfactant-enhanced Ozone Sparging)

  • Surfactant-enhanced ozone sparging (SEOS), an advanced version of SEAS (surfactant-enhance air sparging) was introduced in this study for the first time for removal of non-volatile contaminant from aquifer. The advantages of implementing SEAS, enhanced air saturation and expanded zone of sparging influence, are combined with the oxidative potential of ozone gas. Experiments conducted in this study were tow fold; 1-dimensional column experiments for the changes in the gas saturation and contaminant removal during sparging, and 2-dimensional box model experiment for the changes in the size of zone of influence and contaminant removal. An anionic surfactant (SDBS, sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate) was used to control surface tension of water. Fluorescein sodium salt was used as a representative of watersoluble contaminants, for its fluorescence which is easy to detect when it disappears due to oxidative degradation. Three different gases (air, high-concentration ozone gas, and low-concentration ozone gas) were used for the sparging of 1-D column experiment, while two gases (air and low-concentration ozone gas) were used for 2-D box model experiment. When SEOS was performed for the column and box model, the air saturation and the zone of influence were improved significantly compared to air sparging without surface tension suppression, resulted in effective removal of the contaminant. Based on the experiments observations conducted in this study, SEOS was found to maintain the advantages of SEAS with further capability of oxidative degradation of non-volatile contaminants.

Effect of Dissolved and Colloidal Contaminants of Newsprint Machine White Water on Water Surface Tension and Paper Physical Properties

  • Contaminants such as fatty acids, triglycerides, resin acids and foam collected from a high yield sulfite weak liquor storage tank lowered the water surface tension and reduced inter-fibre bonding but also tended to benefit sheet opacity. Some common wet end additives such as defoamers and dispersants gave similar results. Lignosulfonate and naphthalene sulfonate showed little if any negative effect on both surface tension and sheet strength properties. Among the natural wood extractives. fatty acids were identified to be most detrimental followed by triglycerides and then resin acids. In order to alleviate the detrimental impact of these contaminants, membrane separation, air floatation and ozone treatment were carried out on paper machine white water samples. The effect of these treatments on removal of fatty and resin acids was quantified by a GC-Mass analysis. Reverse osmosis with a 1000 molecular weight cut off membrane failed to totally reject fatty and resin acids, but markedly reduced losses of sheet properties due to contaminants. Ozone treatment resulted in a significant increase of the surface tension and air floatation was considered to be a practical and useful method for removing fatty and resin acids from the machine white water.

주물사의 TCE 제거 메커니즘과 반응벽체에의 적용가능성 (Mechanism of TCE Removal with Foundry Sands and Design of Permeable ]Reactive Barriers)

  • 주물사의 일반적인 지하수 오염물질인 TCE에 대한 반응성을 조사하기 위해 batch와 column실험을 하였다. 본 실험에서 얻어진 주물사의 반응성은 실제 반응벽체에 쓰여지는 철에 비해 높거나 비슷한 결과를 나타내었다. 또한, 주물사에 포함된 클레이와 TOC에 의해 TCE의 이동이 급격히 감소하는 것을 관찰하였다. 따라서, 실제 현장 상황에서는 토양미생물에 의한 분해에 의해 계산된 값보다 훨씬 낮은 농도의 TCE가 검출되리라 예상된다. 실제 현장 반응벽체 설계에 있어서 1 m두께의 벽체가 설치되기 위해서는 주물사에 포함된 철의 함량이 1%이상이면 안전측으로 벽체설계가 가능하다고 볼 수 있다.

Photocatalytic Degradation of Algae and its By-product using Rotating Photocatalytic Oxidation Disk Reactor

  • This study examined the special technique of photocatalytic degradation (RPODisk) for removal of taste and odor causing materials, algae, and algal toxin. The RPODisk was effective for removal of these troublesome contaminants. It outperformed the fixed media and the UV irradiation for geosmin removal. The RPODisk performance was comparable to the combination of the UV irradiation with TiO2. The RPODisk performance was affected by the rotating speed. The faster the speed was, the better the performance. The RPODisk was also effective for removal of algae and algal toxin. The algal activity reduced by 80% after 30 mins of the treatment. More toxic microcystin (MC)-LR was more difficult to remove than MC-RR. The times for 50% removal were 23.7 mins for MC-LR and 14.1 mins for MC-RR. Almost 100 mins of the contact time was required to completely remove MC-LR at the rotating speed of 260 rpm.

부착증식공정에서 내부 반송율 변화에 따른 생물학적 제거 특성 (Biological Removal Characteristics by the Internal Recycle Rate in the Attached Growth Process)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the contaminants removal efficiency and the optimal operating parameters by the internal recycle rate (IRR) in the combining A2/O process with fixed film. The average removal efficiency of BOD and COD was 92.5%~94.6%, 73.9%~87.0% in RUN 1 and 91.9%~94.7%, 77.7%~89.0% in RUN 2, respectively. Organic removal efficiency, at two different hydraulic retention time of 10 and 14hr, was similar. At 50% of the internal recycle rate, organic removal efficiency was somewhat higher than the other. Total nitrogen (T-N) and total phosphorus (T-P) were removed, highly, at 50% of internal recycle rate. It could be suggested by this study that the optimum internal recycle rate is 50% and hydraulic retention time is 14hr.

극초단파(마이크로파)와 첨가제를 이용한 오염토양 내 준휘발성 유기오염물질 제거 (Removal of Semi-volatile Soil Organic Contaminants with Microwave and Additives)

  • To improve the energy efficiency of conventional thermal treatment, soil remediation with microwave has been studied. In this study, the remediation efficiency of contaminated soil with semi-volatile organic contaminants were evaluated with microwave oven and several additives such as water, formic acid, iron powder, sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution, and activated carbon. For the experiment, loamy sand and sandy loam collected from Imjin river flood plain were intentionally contaminated with hexachlorobenzene and phenanthrene, respectively. The contaminated soils were treated with microwave facility and the mass removals of organic contaminants from soils were evaluated. Among additives that were added to increase the remediation efficiency, activated carbon and NaOH solution were more effective than water, iron powder, and formic acid. When 10 g of hexachlorobenzene (142.4 mg/kg-soil) or phenanthrene (2,138.8 mg/kg-soil) contaminated soil that mixed with 0.5 g iron powder, 0.5 g activated carbon and 1 ml 6.25 M NaOH solution were treated with microwave for 3 minutes, more than 95% of contaminants were removed. The degradation of hexachlorobenzene during microwave treatments with additives was confirmed by the detection of pentachlorobenzene and tetrachlorobenzene. Naphthalene and phenol were also detected as degradation products of phenanthrene during microwave treatment with additives. The results showed that adding a suitable amount of additives for microwave treatments fairly increased the efficiency of removing semi-volatile soil organic contaminants.

돼지 정액내의 오염 세균의 동정 및 오염된 세균의 제거 (Identification of bacterial contaminants in porcine semen and its removal)

  • Bacteriospermia is a frequent finding in fresh boar semen and can result in detrimental effects on semen quality and longevity. The objectives of this study was to evaluate types of bacterial contaminants in porcine fresh semen and the reducing effect of antibiotic and density gradient with percoll on the bacterial contaminants. Fresh semen was collected by gloved-hand method into a pre-warmed($37^{\circ}C$) thermostable bottle, and was inoculated onto blood agar and MacConkey agar, respectively. After incubated for 48 hour, 7.5% $CO_2$ at $37^{\circ}C$, bacterial colonies were selected and identified by Gram staining, oxidase test, catalase test and finally identified using API kits and Vitek system. Aerobic culture yielded a variety of bacteria from different genera. The most prevalent contaminant of fresh semen were Leclecia adecarboxylata, Acineobacter banmanni, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus cohni spp urealyticus, Proteus mirabilis. Most of identified bacteria were Gram(-) and non-pathogenic bacteria. It seems that bacterial contaminants in fresh semen were seem originated from multiple sources at the stud/farm, and were from animal and non-animal origins. Gentamicin treatment did not eliminate the bacterial contaminants completely but 3 step-density gradient with percoll completely removed the bacterial contaminants in fresh semen. Therefore, future study is necessary to prove that density gradient method with percoll can eliminate bacteria in fresh semen without significantly affecting sperm viability or function.
