The removal performance of copper ion was studied using Na-P1 zeolites synthesized from Jeju scoria. The scoria which is found in large amounts in Jeju Island, was sampled at four regions, Jeju-shi Bonggae-dong(A). Pukcheju-gun Hanlim-eup Sangmyong-ri Mangoreum(B), Pukcheju-gun Hanlim-eup Keumag-ri(C) and Namcheju-gun Andeok-myun Dongkwang-ri(D). Synthetic Na-P1 zeolites used in this study were more effective than natural zeolite and scoria for the removal of copper ion. The removal performances of copper ion decreased in the order of Na-P1(D) > Na-P1(C) > Na-P1(B) > Na-P1(A) among Na-P1 synthesized from the scoria according to region. These results showed the same trend with cation exchange capacity(CEC) for each synthetic zeolite, i.e., the synthetic Na-P1 zeolite with a higher CEC showed a higher removal performance. The effective diffusion coefficients of copper ion by synthetic Na-P1 zeolites were one hundred and ten times higher than those by a pure zeolite 4A and the zeolite A synthesized from coal fly ash, respectively.
Purpose: Through studying the expert's and non-experts panel responses to the questions regarding the attributes of chemical-biological protection cloth quality in terms of the levels of customer demand and technical factors has been studied. We are applied to a QFD matrix with find out the relationship between the selective removal efficiency of chemical-biological cloth and the guidelines of technical approach. Methods: We fabricated several composite of ion-exchange resins with selectively permeable performance designed to facilities water vapor transport and selective adsorption of the harmful gases. With these materials, we characterized on the selectively permeable performance to identify ion-exchange resin with chemical-biological protective cloth. Results: Results showed that ion exchange materials possessed performance with selectively efficiencies as NH3, SOx, NOx and HCl gas. The selective adsorption amount of ammonia and hydrogen gases were $90-80{\mu}g/g$ with TRILITE SCR-BH sulfonated ion exchange resin. The PP non-woven/ion exchange resin adsorbent materials possessed performance with water vapor permeability were 1,100-1,350 g/m2/day, it's was two times high value compare with activated carbon. With these materials, we characterized selectively removal efficiency to identify new ion-exchange material with chemical-biological protective capability. Conclusion: This study shows that a QFD aids in deciding with of the adsorption parameters to optimized with chemical-biological protection cloth manufacturing.
The high content of potassium in molasses limits its usage as a raw material for stock feed. Moreover, its high viscosity makes it difficult to develop an efficient removal process. In this study, ion exchange and solvent extraction experiments have been performed to investigate the removal of potassium from a mixture of molasses with water. Cationic exchange resins (AG50W-X8 and Diphonix) showed a high loading percentage of potassium but the occurrence of breakthrough in few bed volumes was a drawback to the industrial application. Among the cationic extractants (D2EHPA, PC 88A, Cyanex 272) tested in this study, saponified PC 88A was found to be the best extractant for the removal of potassium. Batch simulation studies on a three stage counter current extraction confirmed that 85% of potassium was removed from 50 wt % molasses solution in water by using saponifed PC 88A.
Natural organic matter (NOM) is among the most common pollutant in underground and surface waters. It comprises of humic substances which contains anionic macromolecules such as aliphatic and aromatic compounds of a wide range of molecular weights along with carboxylic, phenolic functional groups. Although the concentration of NOM in potable water usually lies in the range of 1-10 ppm. Conventional treatment technologies are facing challenge in removing NOM effectively. The main issues are concentrated to low efficiency, membrane fouling, and harmful by-product formation. Ion-exchangers can be considered as an efficient and economic pretreatment technology for the removal of NOM. It not only consumes less time for pretreatment but also resist formation of trihalomethanes (THMs), an unwanted harmful by-product. This article provides a comprehensive review of ion exchange processes for the removal of NOM.
The removal efficiencies of silver-ACFs were associated with their surface properties such as surface area, porosity, and the electro-chemical reaction time for the silver treatments. X-ray diffraction patterns of fibers electrochemically treated with silver display diffraction peaks for metallic silver and kinds of silver chloride complexes on the fiber surface after electrochemical adsorption. The results of SEM and EDX indicate that surface reaction motive of silver-ACF prepared by electrochemical reaction are depend on time function for the chloride ion removal efficiency. Finally, Cl ion adsorbed by the silver-ACFs from the ICP analysis seems to show an excellent removal effect.
Microcircuit fabrication requires precise control of impurities in tiny regions of the silicon. These regions must be interconnected to create components and VLSI circuits. The patterns to define such regions are created by lithographic processes. In order to image features smaller than 70 nm, it is necessary to employ non-optical technology (or next generation lithography: NGL). One such NGL is extreme ultra-violet lithography (EUVL). EUVL transmits the pattern on the wafer surface after reflecting ultra-violet through mask pattern. If particles exist on the blank mask, it can't transmit the accurate pattern on the wafer and decrease the reflectivity. It is important to care the blank mask. We removed the particles on the wafer using focused ion beam (FIB). During removal, FIB beam caused damage the multi layer mask and it decreased the reflectivity. The relationship between particle removal and reflectivity is examined: i) transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation after particle removal, ii) reflectivity simulation. It is found that the image mode of FIB is more effective for particle removal than spot and bar mode.

The adsorption characteristics of methyl iodide generated from the simulated off-gas stream on various adsorbents such as silver ion-exchanged zeolite (AgX), zeocarbon and activated carbon were investigated. An extensive evaluation was made on the optimal silver ion-exchanged level for the effective removal of methyl iodide at temperature up to 38$0^{\circ}C$. The degree of adsorption efficiency of methyl iodide on silver ion-exchanged zeolite is strongly dependent of silver ion-amount and process temperature. The influence of temperature, methyl iodide concentration and silver ion-exchanged level on the adsorption efficiency is closely related to the pore characteristics of adsorbents. It would be facts that the effective silver ion-exchanged level was about 10 wt%, based on the degree of silver utilization for the removal of methyl iodide.
Ion exchange performance to remove nitrate in water was studied using commercially available strong base anion exchange resin of Cl- type in the batch and continuous column reactors. The performance was tested using the effluent concentration histories for continuous column or equilibrium conquilibrium between resin and solution. Anion exchange resin used in this study was more effective than activated carbon or zeolite for nitrate removal. With large resin amount or low initial concentration, nitrate removal characteristics for a typical gel-type resin was Increased. On considering the relation between the breakthrough capacity and nitrate concentration of the influent, the use of anion exchange resin were suitable for the hi선or order water treatment. The nitrate removal of above 90% could be possible until the effluent of above 650 BV was passed to the column. Thus, the commercially available strong base anion exchange resin of $Cl^-$ type used in thins study could be effectively used as economic material for treatment of the groundwater. The breakthrough curves showed the sequence of resin selectivity as $SO_4^{2-}$ > $NO_3$ > $NO^{2-}$ > $HCO_3^-$. The results of this study could be scaled up and used as a design tool for the water purification system of the real groundwater and surface water treatment processes.
