Discrimination of Grading Pungency for Red Peppers Spice Using Electronic Nose Based on Mass Spectrometer (고춧가루의 매운 맛 등급화를 위한 Mass Spectrometer를 바탕으로 한 전자코 분석)

  • Electronic nose (E-nose) was assessed for grading pungency of powdered red pepper. Complex pretreatments are not required for flavor analysis unlike HPLC or Scoville tests. Mild and pungent taste of powdered red pepper were mixed at various concentrations of 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%. Those were analyzed using mass spectrometer-based E-nose. Discriminant function analysis (DFA) was conducted on E-nose data. The $R^{2}$ and F-value of dicriminant function first score (DF1) were 0.9946 and 355.65, respectively, when the samples were separated by a relative degree of pungent taste. DF1 value decreased with increasing the amount of powdered red pepper with a pungent taste. It is similar to the increase in the concentration of capsaicin. Increasing the amount of red pepper powder, dicriminant function second score (DF2) values were moved from the negative position into the positive position. The $R^{2}$ and F-value of DF1 were 0.9890, 165.17 and DF2 were 0.9219, 21.64. Also, the results by MS based E-nose agreed to that by HPLC. There is the potential to grade pungent taste of powdered red pepper using the E-nose.

  • To analyze the aerosol dynamics in severe accidents of LMFBR, a new computer code entitled MCAD (Multicomponent Aerosol Dynamics) has been developed. The code can treat two component aerosol system using relative collision probability of each particles as sequences of accident scenarios. Coagulation and removal mechanisms incorporating Brownian diffusion and gravitational sedimentation are included in this model. In order to see the effect of particle geometry, the code makes use of the concept of density correction factor and shape factors. The code is verified using the experimental result of NSPP-300 series and compared to other code. At present, it fits the result of experiment well and agrees to the existing code. The input variables included are very uncertain. Hence, it requires uncertainty and sensitivity analysis as a supplement to code development. In this analysis, 14 variables are selected to analyze. The input variables are compounded by experimental design method and Latin hypercube sampling. Their results are applied to Response surface method to see the degree of regression. The stepwise regression method gives an insight to which variables are significant as time elapse and their reasonable ranges. Using Monte Carlo Method to the regression model of LHS, the confidence level of the results of MCAD and their variables is improved.

A Study on the Impact of the Urban Decline on the Subjective Well-being of Residents (도시의 쇠퇴가 지역주민의 삶의 만족감에 미치는 영향 - 도시 규모의 차이를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of urban decline on Subjective Well-being(SWB). According to the scale of the city, the municipal districts of Korea are classified into metropolitan cities, middle cities, and small cities. The SWB in the growth area, the maintenance area, and the declining area according to the degree of relative decline of each city group was examined. In addition, in order to consider the complex nature of urban decline, SWB was divided into overall life satisfaction, household income satisfaction, and housing environment satisfaction. Panel models were also used to identify the dynamic relationship between the progress of urban decay and the change in SWB. The empirical analysis of this study examined the effect of decline on the SWB for the local residents. As a result, it was confirmed that the effect of urban decline on the SWB of the residents varies according to the size of the city where the individual resides, according th the SWB by the division. In the case of metropolitan inhabitants, the decline of the housing environment of the residents due to deterioration of the physical environment was confirmed as a result of the decline of the city, but the overall life satisfaction was increased due to the decrease of the social costs such as congestion in an overcrowded area. On the contrary, in the case of the residents of the small cities, it is confirmed that the decline of the city reduces the overall life satisfaction, household income satisfaction, and housing environment satisfaction.

A Cross-check based Vulnerability Analysis Method using Static and Dynamic Analysis (정적 및 동적 분석을 이용한 크로스 체크기반 취약점 분석 기법)

  • Existing vulnerability analysis tools are prone to missed detections, incorrect detections, and over-detection, which reduces accuracy. In this paper, cross-checking based on a vulnerability detection method using static and dynamic analysis is proposed, which develops and manages safe applications and can resolve and analyze these problems. Risks due to vulnerabilities are computed, and an intelligent vulnerability detection technique is used to improve accuracy and evaluate risks under the final version of the application. This helps the development and execution of safe applications. Through incorporation of tools that use static analysis and dynamic analysis techniques, our proposed technique overcomes weak points at each stage, and improves the accuracy of vulnerability detection. Existing vulnerability risk-evaluation systems only evaluate self-risks, whereas our proposed vulnerability risk-evaluation system reflects the vulnerability of self-risk and the detection accuracy in a complex fashion to evaluate relative. Our proposed technique compares and analyzes existing analysis tools, such as lists for detections and detection accuracy based on the top 10 items of SANS at CWE. Quantitative evaluation systems for existing vulnerability risks and the proposed application's vulnerability risks are compared and analyzed. We developed a prototype analysis tool using our technique to test the application's vulnerability detection ability, and to show that our proposed technique is superior to existing ones.

Bio Toxicity Assessment and Kinetic Model of 6 Heavy Metals Using Luminous Bacteria (발광미생물을 이용한 중금속 6종의 생물독성 평가 및 모델링)

  • In addition to North America and Europe, Korea is also responding to the toxic damage caused by the production and distribution of chemicals. Methods for assessing bio-toxicity of harmful substances have been widely introduced, but it is required of quantitative and speedy information for modeling. For 6 heavy metals, as zinc, copper, chrome, cadmium, mercury and lead, bio-toxicity assessment and kinetics model were constructed using Vibrio fischeri which is widely used luminous bacteria. The degree of luminescence activity and the toxicity of heavy metals were relative limunescence unit, RLU measured as by using a photomultiplier embedded device. The toxicity was assessed by the concentration levels giving under 20% lethality and lethal concentration, $EC_{50}$. In the results, the toxicity order were followed from mercury, lead, copper, chrome, zinc and cadmium. $EC_{{50},{\infty}}$ obtained by trends of $EC_{50}$ by time follows had highly linear agreement with main parameters of bio-toxicity modelling. The average error rates of the reproduced lethality obtained from DAM and TDM model on the basis of body residue, were 10.2% for mercury, lead, copper, chrome and 20.0 for the all 6 methals.

A Study on the Gap Between University Academic Information Resource Using Gini Coefficient (지니계수를 활용한 대학도서관 학술정보자원 격차 연구)

  • This study uses Gini coefficient to index the inequality of academic information resource among universities to identify the areas where the gap is extremely severe, and analyzes the Gini coefficient over time for 10 years to show how the gap is changing. In addition, the degree and characteristics of the gap appearing by type of universities such as metropolitan universities, local national universities, private universities, and colleges were also compared. As a result, first, the university library academic information infrastructure showed a severe level of disparity (0.6 - 0.9), and the inequality was more severe in serials, electronic resources, and reference service. Even when the relative Gini coefficient was calculated considering the number of students, the inequality was over 0.4 in serial etc. Second, the Gini coefficient trend over the last decade shows that the inequality has decreased toward equality in the re-education time of employees and electronic information resources, but not in other sectors. Third, it was found that special universities and universities in the metropolitan area showed a large gap between universities of the same kind, and local national universities showed the best gap level as well as the best academic information infrastructure.

The Origin and Diffusion of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' in Korea: Focusing on Human Movement (인간의 이동을 중심으로 본 한국 속 '동남아 현상')

  • Recently, Southeast Asian people, its food, natural sceneries and so on have been increasingly exposed to Korean people through mass media and multi-cultural events. At the same time, Koreans can frequently encounter Southeast Asians in their everyday lives. Thus, specific images and discourses of Southeast Asia has been established in our society, which creates a new social trend called 'Southeast Asia phenomena'. In short, 'Southeast Asia phenomena' means a totality of Korean people's experience of Southeast Asian and their perception on the region. On the one hand, 'Southeast Asia phenomena' is a result of inflow of Southeast Asians and their culture into Korea. On the other hand, it is also a consequence of Korean people's understanding of Southeast Asia from their trip to Southeast Asia or from their interactions with Southeast Asian people. This article aims to analyze the origin and diffusion of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' in Korea in the context of Southeast Asia focusing on 4 topics, that is, migrant workers, overseas investments, retirement migration, study-abroad categorized as human movement. This article is also about a country-by-country comparative analysis both at the macro level and the micro level. At the macro level, overseas investments and trade, human exchanges, positive perception to Koreans which considered to be the structural causes become a strong mechanism playing a important bridge role between Korea and Southeast Asia. So these create the high probability of the emergence of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' At the micro level which is more direct causes of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena', the economic cause is the most important common cause for 4 Southeast Asian Phenomena. Additionally, Korean wave is also remarkable common cause creating 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' even it is not the origin in the context of Southeast Asia. The diffusion of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' is different by the topics and the elements contributing to create the favorable situation for the diffusion are not only overseas investments and trade, human exchanges at the macro level but also policy elements at the micro level. The relative differences of the causes of 'Southeast Asian Phenomena' in the country-by-country analysis are found. Regarding overseas investments in Vietnam and Cambodia, the economic degree of freedom in Cambodia is higher than in Vietnam. Even Korean Wave has had the longer history in Vietnam, but the favorable perspectives on Korean Wave are stronger in Cambodia. For migrant workers from Vietnam and Indonesia, the economic causes in Vietnam are more significant than in Indonesia. The impact of Korean Wave is stronger in Vietnam than in Indonesia. In case of study-abroad, the social-cultural elements and policy elements are more diverse in Malaysia than in Korea. For the Korean retirees who immigrate to the Philippines and Malaysia, the economic causes in the Philippines is more significant in Malaysia.

Effects of Breed, Laying Age, and Egg Storage Period on the Vitality of Hatched Chicks in Korean Native Chickens (한국토종닭의 품종, 산란 연령 및 종란의 보관 기간이 병아리의 강건성에 미치는 영향)

  • We investigated the effects of breed, laying age, and egg storage period on the vitality of chicks using the Hwanggalsaek Jaeraejong, Korean Rhode Island Red, and Korean White Leghorn chicken breeds. Their eggs were collected during the early laying period (27~29 weeks) and late laying period (50~52 weeks) and were stored for 3 days, 7 days and 14 days. After the eggs hatched, the hatching time, production performance, and organ weight of chicks were investigated. IL-6 gene expression level and relative length of telomeres were analyzed to determine the physiological activity of the chicks. HSP gene expression level and heterophil to lymphocytes ratio were also analyzed to examine the degree of stress response in the chicks. The results showed that breed and laying age influenced the vitality of chicks, but the egg storage period did not. Korean Leghorn chicks were considered the weakest breed in terms of vitality owing to their low survival rate, small heart size, low physiological activity, and high stress response level. Although the survival rate of chicks produced in the early laying period was low, their high physiological activity and low stress response indicated that they had a high vitality than the chicks produced in the late laying period. In conclusion, to obtain chicks with high vitality, it would be desirable to select a high vitality breed and avoid the use of chicks produced in the late laying period.

Magnesium Sulfate Resistance of Geopolymer Incorporating Evaporated Rice Husk Powder (증해추출 왕겨분말을 혼입한 지오폴리머의 황산마그네슘 저항성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the magnesium sulfate resistance of a geopolymer mixed with rice husk powder. General concrete, silica fume mixed concrete, and binary blended geopolymer were selected as comparison targets to confirm the magnesium sulfate resistance, and sulfate deterioration was calculated using the compressive strengths with ages. In addition, the weight change rate and the relative dynamic coefficient of the geopolymer were comparatively analyzed, and the degree of etteringite formation was confirmed using X-ray diffraction analysis. the experiment, the geopolymer mixed with 10% rice husk powder showed 10.8% higher compressive strength than concrete with silica fume when submerged for 56 days. Also, the geopolymer mixed with rice husk powder showed a small weight change rate of 0.9 to 1.45%. composition after immersion in magnesium sulfate through X-ray diffraction analysis, it was observed that a small amount of ettringite was dispersed in the geopolymer containing rice husk powder.   • The attractiveness of the gingiva is determined by its color, shape, and the shape and location of the boundary between the teeth and the gingival tissue. The standards beauty, balance, and health of the gingiva are all different, but the general public would agree that a coral pink gingiva is more beautiful than black or brown gingiva. Hence, one would be able to smile more confidently in public if he or she receives a gingival pigmentation removal surgery that changes the color of black or brown gums to a beautiful pink color with relative simplicity. The color of one's gingiva varies from pale pink to deep bluish purple, depending on many health components. The most prominent among these include the vascular supply, epithelial thickness, the degree of keratinization, and the presence of pigment in the epithelium. Melanin, carotene, reduced hemoglobulin, and oxyhemoglobulin are the main pigments contributing to the normal color of the oral mucosa. The health of one's gingival tissue are essential for an attractive smile. Excessive melanin deposits in the basal and early basal layers of the epithelium stored in the form of melanosomes frequently cause pigmentation.
