In this study, it is investigated the modified modulus of elasticity of the reinforced concrete columns including the longitudinal reinforcing steels as well as the confinement effect of the core concrete due to the transverse reinforced steel through the literature reviews. Equations are derived in order to evaluate the modified modulus of elasticity for the reinforced compressive concrete including the confinement effect. The finite element analysis for the 20 story reinforced concrete building is undertaken as a case study depending on the steel ratio and modulus of elasticity, and the analysis results are discussed.

For reinforced concrete members, bond strength is one of the important factors between the two materials: the concrete and the reinforcing element. The bond strength of Aramid Fiber Reinforced Polymer (AFRP) rebar was tested using the pull-out method. Presented were comparison results of the bond strength between AFRP rebar and deformed steel bars from the test. Embedded lengths and diameters of the rebar were taken into account as parameters. The bond stress-slip responses and failure modes of AFRP rebar were evaluated. It was found that the bond stress-slip responses of AFRP rebar were similar to those of deformed steel bars. As the diameter of rebar increased, the pull-out load increased. In addition, it was shown that the bond strength of an AFRP rebar was approximately 54% compared with that of a deformed steel bar.
Waste tires can be used not only for reinforcement material due to its high capacity against tensile force but also effective for massive treatment. In order to use waste tire as reinforcing material Tread mat using tire treads only was made. Plate load tests on the embankment of decomposed granite soil reinforced with Tread mat and geogrids were conducted for comparison with the test results, respectively. And numerical analyses were performed to see the stress and stain around the reinforced material. Tread mat showed bearing capacity increase and the amount was bigger than that of commercial geogrids. Finite element analysis showed decrease of stress beneath the reinforced material and stress distribution. Finally Tread mat was proposed to use for soil reinforcement as a means of massive treatment of discarded tire.

Recently various composite beams in which concrete is filled in the U-shaped steel plate have been developed for saving story height and reducing construction period. Due to the high flexural stiffness and strength, they are widely being used for the building with large loads and long spans. The semi-slim AU composite beam has proven to take highly improved stability compared to the existing composite beams, because it consists of the closed steel section by attaching cap-type shear connectors to the upper side of U-shaped steel plate. In this study the finite element analyses were performed to evaluate the safety of the AU composite beam with unconsolidated concrete which were sustained through the closed steel section during the construction phase. The analyses were performed on the two types of cross section applied to the fabrication of AU composite beams, and the results were compared to the those of 2-point bending tests. In addition, the flexural performance according to the space of intermittent cap-type shear connectors and the location of reinforcing steel bars for compression was comparatively investigated. Through the results of analytical studies, it is preferable to adopt the yield moment of AU composite beam for evaluating the safety in the construction phase, and to limit the space of intermittent shear connectors to 400 mm or less for the construction load.
In this paper, a mechanism of the soil structure reinforced by geosynthetics is discussed. The reinforcing mechanism is interpreted as an effect arising from the reinforcement works preventing the dilative deformation (negative dilatancy) of soil under shearing. A full-scale in-situ model test was carried out in Kanazawa of Japan (1994), and in the laboratory test the strength and the characteristics of deformation conducting a constant volume shear test are examined. The parameters needed in the FEM are also applied by using the experimental data. The elasto-plastic finite element simulation is carried out, and the results are quantitatively compared with that of experiment. As a results, it is known that the theoretical predictions could explain effectively the experimental results which are obtained by a full-scale in-situ model test.
Cast in situ and grouted concrete helical piles with 150-200 mm diameter half cylindrical ribs have become an economical and effective choice in Shanghai, China for uplift piles in deep soft soils. Though this type of pile has been successful used in practice, the reinforcing mechanism and the contribution of the ribs to the total resistance is not clear, and there is no clear guideline for the design of such piles. To study the inclusion of ribs to the contribution of shear resistance, the shear behaviour between silty sand and concrete slabs with parallel ribs at different spacing and angles were tested in a large direct shear box ($600mm{\times}400mm{\times}200mm$). The front panels of the shear box are detachable to observe the soil deformation after the test. The tests were modelled with three-dimensional finite element method in ABAQUS. It was found that, passive zones can be developed ahead of the ribs to form undulated failure surfaces. The shear resistance and failure mode are affected by the ratio of rib spacing to rib diameter. Based on the shape and continuity of the failure zones at the interface, the failure modes at the interface can be classified as "punching", "local" or "general" shear failure respectively. With the inclusion of the ribs, the pull out resistance can increase up to 17%. The optimum rib spacing to rib diameter ratio was found to be around 7 based on the observed experimental results and the numerical modelling.
In most cases in urban areas, construction of divergence tunnel should take into account proximity to existing tunnel in operation. This inevitably leads to deformation of adjacent structures and surrounding ground. Preceding researches mainly dealt with reinforcing of the diverging section for the stability including the pillar. This has limitations in investigating the interactive effects between existing structures and surrounding ground due to the excavation of the divergence tunnel. In this study, the complex interactive behavior of pile, the operating tunnel, and the surrounding ground according to horizontal offsets between the two adjacent tunnels was quantitatively analyzed based on conditions diverged from operating tunnel in urban areas. The effects on ground structures confirmed by analyzing the ground surface settlements, pile settlements, and the axial forces of the pile. The axial forces of lining in operating tunnel investigated to estimate their impact on existing tunnel. In addition, in order to identify the deformation of the surrounding ground, the close range photogrammetry applied to the laboratory model test for confirming the underground displacements. Two-dimensional finite element numerical analysis was also performed and compared with the results. It identified that the impact of excavating a divergence tunnel decreased as the horizontal offset increased. In particular, when the horizontal offset was larger than 1.0D (D is the diameter of operating tunnel), the impact on existing structures further reduced and the deformation of surrounding ground was concentrated at the top of the divergence tunnel.

In this study, in order to asses the structural performance of trapezoidal PSC girder using a socket joint system and it is possible to calculate the optimized cross-section of the web element tests were carried out for each specimens. we conducted a socket joint performance test, web bending and shear performance tests and all tests were performed at 4 point loading method. The initial crack load of socket joint specimen was significantly lower than the reference specimen but post peak behavior was no significant differences. And the length of the loop joint of the reinforcing bars had no significant effect on the maximum load. As a web shear tests, to obtain a maximum load of the specimen has a prestressing rod reinforced at tension side. As a web flexural tests, to obtain higher diagonal cracking load in specimen of reinforced using prestressing rod than reference specimen.

Social interest in the seismic retrofit of the structure is growing massive earthquake that occurred recently. The brittle fracture of Non-seismically designed Columns lead to full collapse of the building. In the past, cross-sectional expansion method, a steel plate reinforcing method is applied mainly in recent years, fiber-reinforced method utilizing the advantages of the composite material are preferred. However, the reinforcement methods such as this, there is a drawback to induce physical damage to structures, and time consuming work space is large. IIn this study, FRP seismic reinforcement was developed using the Aluminum connector and the composite material (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer). Then, the optimum quantities of FRP seismic reinforcement was determined using a nonlinear finite element analysis program. Finally, the quantity decision process through the design and analysis of FRP reinforcement was suggested.
In this paper, a mechanism of the soil structure reinforced by geosynthetics is discussed. The reinforcing mechanism is interpreted an effect arising from the reinforcement works so as to prevent the dilative deformation (negative dilatancy) of soil under shearing.
