This paper reports the application study of the ground reinforcement under a buried pipeline subjected to differential settlement via a finite element modeling. The soil-reinforcement interaction helps to minimize the differential settlement between the adjoining pipe segments. The settlement pattern and deformation slope of a pipeline have been evaluated for a boundary condition at the joint between a rigid structure and a pipeline. The analysis results are compared for both non-reinforced and reinforced cases to numerically evaluate the stress transfer mechanism and the effectiveness of the soil reinforcement for restraining the settlement of the pipeline.
This paper reports the application study of the ground reinforcement under a buried conduit subjected to differential settlement via a finite element modeling. The soil-reinforcement inter- action helps to minimize the differential settlement between the adjoining conduit segments. Three different field conditions have been considered. The settlement pattern and deformation slope have been evaluated for each boundary condition. The analysis results are compared for both non-reinforced and reinforced case to measure the effectiveness of the soil reinforcement for restraining deformation of the conduit.

When building tunnels beneath riverbeds where very large quantities of groundwater inflow exist, added to high water head the soil supporting conditions are very poor because the soil consists of sand and silt, etc. It is necessary to have grouting and mini pipe roof installed in the region for ground reinforcement to decrease permeability. According to this result of horizontal boring and laboratory soil testing, ground reinforcement was achieved by L.W grouting for range of 3.0 times the tunnel radius, to increase stability of the tunnel we used the ling-cut method, 0.8m for one step excavation, shotcrete with 25cm thick, steel lib with H-$125{\times}125$. and a temporary shotcrete invert 20cm thick was installed to prevent deformation of the tunnel.

As existing materials for ground reinforcement, chemical grout material using cementitous materials and waterglass was used. But many problems in terms of ground reinforcement effects were implicated. In this study, for development and applicability verification of new materials, viscosity, fluidity, permeability, Self-Leveling, keeping of drilled hole, antiwashout underwater, resistance of water (groundwater dilution and minimize material eluting) and the early strength and long-term strength characteristics of developed materials was confirmed, and material standards, and establishing construction standards for the various model tests were conducted. As a result, high viscosity, flowability, permeability and keeping of drilled hole characteristics are excellent, in addition to the early strength properties, dilution does nat occur to groundwater, including groundwater is available for dealing with environmental issues. Application of basic and reinforcement method by Filler function in addition to structure can also or development of a new concept can be expected. In addition, middle and large-diameter drilled shaft, micropile, ground anchors, soil-nailing, steel pipes multi-grouting reinforcement for cement injection process could be used enough to even be considered.
Reinforcement with geotextiles have been used in the foundation soil to enhance the resistance of embankments to avoid failure through excessive deformation or shear in the foundation. It is improtant to know the amount of the strain and the displacement of buried geotextiles for the verification of the reinforcement behaviour. Full scale trial constructions were performed to check the deformational characteristics of the polyester(PET) mat which was used for the embankment reinforcement. Many instrumentation equipments including surface settlement plates, profile gauges and inclinometer casings were installed to observe the behaviour of the soft ground due to the soil embankment. 60 electrical resistance strain gauges and 9 vibrating wire LVDTs were installed 세 measure the deformation of the polyester mat. Results of various tests and geotextile, waterproofing and protection from the hazard environments were introduced. The proposed instrumentation method was effective for the monitoring or the geotextile behaviour. The direct attachment of electrical resistance strain gauges on the gertextile mat was able to measure small changes of the strain of geotextiles. At the end of the 5 month monitoring, 54 of 60 (93%) strain gauges and 7 of 9 (78%) displacement transducers survived all perils of the compaction impacts and the humidity. And the tensile strain of grotextiles increased as the ground displacement became larger. Though the observed strain of mats under the 3m high embankment load was less than 1%, the magnitudes of the strain according to the mat spreading method were different from each other.

Earth reinforcement techniques are used worldwide and offer proven solutions to a wide range of geotechnical engineering problems. Here in this paper, recent developments of three major reinforced soil retaining wall methods in Japan were introduced in order to show how the current situation of this technique in Japan is. And the statistical data for the volume of the use was also shown, such as the total volume of the use, the scales of the structures, layout of the earth reinforcement, fill materials, and foundation conditions. Some of the case histories were also introduced with photographs and figures. And then, as one of recent research activity by the author, the study on the application of X-ray CT for the problem of earth reinforcement method combined with other method such as piling and soil improvement was introduced. In this study, a series of model test for several reinforced ground with geogrids was conducted using a newly developed test apparatus. Then, the behavior in the soil box was scanned after settlement using X-ray CT scanner. Based on these test results, the reinforcing effect by the geogrids and the soil arching effect over the pile heads was discussed precisely and those are done in 3-D with nondestructive condition. Finally, the effectiveness of the use of X-ray CT scanner in geotechnical engineering was promised.

This paper presents a case study that achieved both of serviceability and safety of the building through soil reinforcement and restoration around foundations subjected to serious differential settlement using D-ROG method. The building which has one basement floor and three ground floors is founded on soft ground and differential settlement occurred to the maximum extent of 678mm. The foundation type of the building is a independent mat foundation. Soil profiles consist of landfill layer, alluvial layer, weathered rock, and soft rock. The bearing layer consisting of gravel and weathered rock is located 16.0~17.0m below the bottom of the building. As a result of soil reinforcement and restoration, the recovery ratio of more than 90% can be attained with the maximum set-up of 657mm.

The grout-effect evaluation of the ground reinforcement technique, which has been widely applied to civil engineering and construction fields, is not established for the guidelines of choosing the efficient evaluation method, and in fact the experts have little effort to determine the reinforcement effect quantitatively. The evaluation of the grout was carried out by experiments on core specimen and drilling, which is impossible to evaluate grout-reinforcement effect quantitatively. This paper presents an example on verification of FRP grout-effect using geophysical prospecting on ground surface, which is 2D resistivity survey that easily visualize survey results with color graphics and seismic refraction method that interprets the subsurface seismic velocity structure.
Recently, the natural and man-made slope collapses occur frequently because of sudden heavy rains. So, a variety of slope reinforcement methods have been developed and applied to failure slopes. Soil nailing method usage has been increased because of its workability and economic aspects. This method has been applied in combination with other slope stability methods. Soil nailing method is a kind of combinational structure of steel bar and cement grouting. This method uses skin friction between adjacent ground and cement grouting to stabilize the slope. In this study, End-expanded soil nailing method was developed. This method consists of steel bar and anchor body attached at the tip of the nail. During construction, the anchor body at steel bar tip is settled to the ground through the expanding action. In this study, field pull-out tests were performed for un-grouting soil nailing and grouting soil nailing. From the test results, a wedge force of End-expanded soil nailing method was analyzed. And the behavior characteristics of End-expanded soil nailing were studied.

Stone columns (or granular column) have been used to increase the load carrying capacity and accelerating consolidation of soft soil. Recently, the geosynthetic reinforced stone column technique has been developed to improve the load carrying capacity of the stone column. In addition, reinforcement prevents the lateral squeezing of stone in to surrounding soft soil, helps in easy formation of stone column, preserve frictional properties of aggregate and drainage function of the stone column. This paper investigates the improvement of load carrying capacity of isolated ordinary and geotextile reinforced sand column through field load tests. Tests were performed with different reinforcement stiffness, diameter of sand column and reinforcement length. The results of field load test indicated an improved load carrying capacity of geotextile reinforced sand column over ordinary sand column. The increase in load carrying capacity depends upon the sand column diameter, stiffness of reinforcement and reinforcement length. Also, the partial reinforcement length about two to four time's sand column diameter from the top of the column was found to significant effect on the performance of sand column.
