Behavior factor of a structure plays a crucial role in designing and predicting the inelastic responses of it. Recently, irregular buildings have been interested in many designers. To design irregular structures, recognizing the inelastic behavior of them is necessary. The main objective of this study is to determine the behavior factor of irregular Reinforced Concrete Moment Resisting Frames (RCMRFs) via nonlinear Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA). To do so, first, several frames are designed according to the regulations of the Iranian national building code. Then the nonlinear incremental dynamic analysis is performed on these structures and the behavior factors are achieved. The acquired results are compared with those obtained using pushover analysis and it is shown that the behavior factors acquired from the nonlinear incremental dynamic analysis are somewhat larger than those obtained from pushover analysis. Eventually, two practical relations are proposed to predict the behavior factor of irregular RCMRFs. Since these relations are based on the simple characteristics of frames such as: irregularity indices, the height and fundamental period, the behavior factor of irregular RCMRFs can be achieved efficiently using these relations. The proposed relations are applied to design of four new irregular RCMRFs and the outcomes confirm the accuracy of the aforementioned relations.

Stone column or granular compaction pile have been used in widely during the several decades as a technique to reinforce soft cohesive soils and increase bearing capacity, accelerate consolidation settlement of the foundation soil. The bearing capacity of the granular compaction pile is governed mainly by the lateral confining pressure mobilized in the native soft soil to restrain bulging collapse of the granular pile. Therefore, the technique becomes unfeasible in soft, compressible clayey soils that do not provide sufficient lateral confinement. This paper presents the main results of numerical study of granular compaction pile which is partly mixed with lean concrete. 3D finite element analyses are performed with composite reinforced foundations by both granular compaction pile and partly mixed granular compaction pile with lean-mixed concrete. Finally, a regression formula for calculating settlement reduction coefficients is proposed in this study by using numerical analysis results and applicability of the proposed method is identified by a series of parametric study about settlement reduction coefficients.

In a tension-controlled section, all steel tension reinforcement is assumed to yield at ultimate when using the strength design method to calculate the nominal flexural strength of members with steel reinforcement arranged in multiple layers. Therefore, the tension force is assumed to act at the centroid of the reinforcement with a magnitude equal to the area of tension reinforcement times the yield strength of steel. Because FRP materials have no plastic region, the stress in each reinforcement layer will vary depending on its distance from the neutral axis. Similarly, if different types of FRP bars are used to reinforce the same member, the stress level in each bar type will vary, and the member will show different behavior from our expectation. In this study, six high-strength concrete beam specimens reinforced with conventional steels, CFRP bars, and GFRP bars as flexural reinforcements were constructed and tested. The members reinforced with hybrid reinforcements showed higher stiffness, smaller crack width, and better ductility than the members reinforced with single type of FRP bars.

In this investigation, results of laboratory tests on six reinforce concrete flat plate interior connections with elongated rectangular column support which has been used widely in tall residential buildings are presented. The purpose of this study is to evaluate an effect of column aspect ratio(${\beta}$c=$c_1/c_2$) on the hysteretic behavior under earthquake type loading. The aspect ratio of column section was taken as 0.33${\sim}$3($c_1/c_2$=1/3, 1/1, 3/1). Other design parameters such as flexural reinforcement ratio of slab and concrete strength was kept constant as ${\rho}$=1.0%, 1.5% and $f){ck}$=40MPa, respectively. Gravity shear load($V_g$) was applied by 30 percents of nominal vertical shear strength(0.3$V_o$) of the specimen. Experimental observations on punching failure pattern, peak lateral-load and story drift ratio at punching failure, and stiffness degradation were achieved and discussed in accordance with different column aspect ratio.

The flexural behavior of the reinforced concrete (RC) structure upgraded by external reinforcements was examined in this study. It is well known that the incorporation of carbon fiber sheet (CFS) with concrete is one of the most effective ways to strengthen the RC structure. Complete bonding is required between CFS and concrete in order to make the RC structure provide its full function until the time the Re structures serve. Many studies have reported that construction deficiencies have caused the debonding of the CFS from concrete before the RC structure with CFS reaches its ultimate capacity. This research took a systematic look at the failure mechanism, macroscopic load-deformation characteristics, the maximum load applied, and maximum bending moment when construction deficiencies exist. The results of the experiment conducted were compared with theoretically derived values. In the future, the results of this investigation will help minimize the factors of construction deficiencies, which may occur when CFS is used to reinforce a RC structure. The experiment was manipulated with steel reinforcement ratio and piles of CFS on a total of 14 beams ($20cm{\times}30cm{\times}240cm$). The results showed that internal moment capacity increased even when construction deficiencies existed. However, RC structures with CFS in the field still contain a considerable level of potential risks.
Geopolymer concrete (GC) can be competently utilized as a practical replacement for cement to prevent a high carbon footprint and to give a direction toward sustainable concrete construction. Moreover, previous studies mostly focused on the axial response of glass fiber reinforced polymer (glass-FRP) concrete compressive elements without determining the effectiveness of repairing them after their partial damage. The goal of this study is to assess the structural effectiveness of partially damaged GC columns that have been restored using carbon fiber reinforced polymer (carbon-FRP). Bars made of glass-FRP and helix made of glass-FRP are used to reinforce these columns. For comparative study, six of the twelve circular specimens-each measuring 300 mm×1200 mm-are reinforced with steel bars, while the other four are axially strengthened using glass-FRP bars (referred to as GSG columns). The broken columns are repaired and strengthened using carbon-FRP sheets after the specimens have been subjected to concentric and eccentric compression until a 30% loss in axial strength is attained in the post-peak phase. The study investigates the effects of various variables on important response metrics like axial strength, axial deflection, load-deflection response, stiffness index, strength index, ductility index, and damage response. These variables include concentric and eccentric compression, helix pitch, steel bars, carbon-FRP wrapping, and glass-FRP bars. Both before and after the quick repair process, these metrics are evaluated. The results of the investigation show that the axial strengths of the reconstructed SSG and GSG columns are, respectively, 15.3% and 20.9% higher than those of their original counterparts. In addition, compared to their SSG counterparts, the repaired GSG samples exhibit an improvement in average ductility indices of 2.92% and a drop in average stiffness indices of 3.2%.
With the increasing tendency to construct high rise reinforced concrete building~i, it is required to use high strength materIals, smaller member sections, and larger reinforcing bars, I t is generally recognized that under severe seismic loads beam column jomts may become more critical structural components than other structural elements. In a ductile momentresistmg reinforced concrete frame, the connection of bearncolumn must be capable of resistll1g the large lateral forces caused by seismic actions,
The purpose of this experimental study is to evaluate and ll1vestigate the earthquake resistant perform
ance of beam-colurrm subassemblies constructed with high-strength concrete cast by the concrete of com¬pressive strength of 700kg / cm2 subjected to reversed cyclic loadings.
New approaches for moving the plastic hinging zone away from the column face and preventing the di¬agonal crack in the joint region are adopted to advance the earthquake-resistant performance of beam-column subassemblies using high-strengh concrete under severe earthquake-type loading. Exper¬imental results indicate that the modified new details which are introduced by intermediate reinforcement in the beam over a specific beam length adjacent to the joint are able to attain the stable hysteretic behavior and the enhancement of earthquake-resistant performance.

Concrete is a representative composite material that shows excellent performance in the construction field. However, it is a brittle and nonhomogeneous material and exhibits weak behavior against bending and tensile forces. To compensate for such weakens, fiber reinforcement has been utilized, and steel fiber has been recognized as one of the best material for such purpose. However, steel fiber can seriously affect the durability of concrete exposed to the marine environment due to the corrosion caused by chlorine ions. This study intended to evaluate the mechanical performance of steel fiber reinforce concrete during and after repeated wet/dry cycles in salt solution. According to the experimental results, there was no reduction in the relative dynamic modulus of concrete during the repeated wet/dry cycles in salt solution for 37 weeks. Flexural strength was not decreased after completion of repeated wet/dry cycles in salt solution. There was no sign of corrosion in steel fibers after visual observation of fractured surface. However, the flexural toughness was decreased, and this is because about half of the concrete specimen showed failure before reaching the maximum displacement of 3 mm. Although repeated wet/dry cycles in salt solution did not cause cracks in concrete through corrosion of steel fibers, specific attention is required because it can reduce flexural toughness of steel fiber reinforced concrete.
The design of space, which focuses on human senses and perception, has become more prominent. It can be understood as the space needed for a field of experience. Phenomenological attitude focuses on the relations between human in the context of their environment. The experiences generated were used as a method of design. The method guides a formation of active space through phenomenological experience in interior space as well as architecture. To stimulate a phenomenological sensitive experience, the parameters for certain experiences were connected to the five senses, finally creating a concrete space. Water, light, air, vapor, and earth as architectural media are connected to the five senses and lead to intermediation from abstract to actual. In particular, water is deeply rooted in peoples subconsciousness and stimulates our instincts. Using water by effectively combining its symbols and physical characteristics will be a method to reinforce the experience with a given space. This study will examine the need for space experience and characteristics of water as an essential elements for perception experience and present possible experimental design.
