  • Power semiconductors are being currently used as a application of intelligent power inverters to a refrigerator, a washing machine and a vacuum cleaner as well as core parts of industrial system. The rating of semiconductor devices is an important factor in decision on the field of application and the forward blocking voltage is one of factors in decision of the rating. The Power MOS device has a merit of high input impedance, short switching time, and stability in temperature as well known. Power MOS devices are mainly used as switches in the field of power electronics, especially the on-state resistance and breakdown voltage are regarded as the most important parameters. Power MOS devices that enable a small size, a light weight, high-integration and relatively high voltage are required these days. In this paper, we proposed the new lateral power MOS which has forward blocking voltage of 250V and contains trench electrodes and verified manufactural possibility by using TSUPREM-4 that is process simulator.

Internet of Things based Smart Energy Management for Smart Home

  • Thanks to internet, as one of indispensable parts of our lives, many devices that we use in our daily lives like TV, air conditioner, refrigerator, washing machine, can be monitored and controlled remotely by becoming more intelligent via Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Smart Home applications as one of the elements of smart cities, are individually the most demanded application without question. In this study, Smart Energy Management (SEM) system, based on NodeMCU and Android, has been designed for SEM, which is a part of the smart home application. With this system, household energy consumption can be monitored in real time, as well as having the ability to record the data comprising of operation times and energy consumption information for each device. Additionally, it is ensured to meet the energy needs on a maximized level possible, during the hours when the energy costs are lower owing to the SEM system. The Android interface provides the users with the opportunity to monitor and change their electricity consumption habits in order to optimize the energy efficiency, along with the opportunity to draw up of a daily and weekly schedule.

A Study on the Human Growth Hormone Response Following Electro Convulsion Therapy (전기-경련 시술후의 혈장 HGH 반응)

  • Effect of Electro Convulsion Therapy (ECT) on the Human Growth Hormone (HGH) response was observed in 32 cases of various mental illness. The patients were fasting overnight and ECT was induced in the morning by application of $90{\sim}120V$ for a period of $0.1{\sim}0.5\;sec$. In all patients, venous blood samples were taken prior to simultaneously with 1 and 4 hours after the ECT. Plasma was immediately seperated and stored in $-20^{\circ}C$ refrigerator. HGH concentrantion was determined by means of radioimmunoassay Results were as follows: 1. Application of electric current was not followed by a significant change in mean plasma HGH of 52 cases. 2 Increases of plasma HGH following ECT were observed in about half cases showing low initial level but in 20 other cases with high initial level of plasma HGH, reasonable decreases after therapy were not found. 3. Plasma concentration of HGH one hour after application of current were always higher than just after the current. 4. There were no differences between HGH responses to a 1st, 2nd or 5th ECT. 5. Discussions were made on the possible modification of HGH response following ECT by the autoregulatory control mechanism.

  • This paper describes a Voice User Interface(VUI) method and a design guideline tool which supports the studies for domestic appliance. This issue covers specification of user requirement and selection of appropriate VUI to represent speech generation. The criteria for paper is interaction design to enhance user engagement. The studies were carried out to measure prototype of domestic appliance such as a refrigerator, a washing machine, a Gimchi refrigerator, an oven range, a dishwasher and an air conditioner. This paper is presented a study of user preferences and suitability. The results of these findings to voice interface design are discussed and it is suggested that VUI guideline and optimal prototyping can provide a useful application tools in the design process.

  • Foil bearings have been successfully used for small high speed rotors, such as ACM(Air Cycle Machine), turbo charger, turbo compressor, high speed motor, etc. Recently advanced researches are concentrated on the high load capacity and the extreme temperature foil bearings to extend the application boundary. Some bearings are already adopted into cryogenic machines and micro gas turbines. In this paper, a foil journal bearing designed for high load capacity, which is under development, is introduced. The bearing is for the turbo refrigerator which has a rotor of 18${\~}$25 kgf rotating at 23,000${\~}$38,000 rpm. This application is well beyond conventional spectrum of foil bearings because the rotor is relatively heavy and the rotational speed is low. Therefore, the development is challenging. The foil bearing is a bump type, the size is 60mm in diameter and 50mm in length, the operating fluid is air and rotational speed is 26,000 rpm. In-house software was developed and used for bearing design. Tested maximum load capacity is 80kgf, 0.62 in terms of load capacity coefficient, and testing is being continued.

  • The concept of Smart-Homes is becoming more and more popular. It is anticipated that Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology will play a major role in such environments. We can find many previously proposed schemes that focus solely on: authentication between the RFID tags and readers, and user privacy protection from malicious readers. There has also been much talk of a very popular RFID application: a refrigerator/bookshelf that can scan and list out the details of its items on its display screen. Realizing such an application is not as straight forward as it seems to be, especially in securely deploying such RFID-based applications in a smart home environment. Therefore this paper describes some of the RFID-based applications that are applicable to smart home environments. We then identify their related privacy and security threats and security requirements and also propose a secure approach, where RFID-tagged consumer items, RFID-reader enabled appliances (e.g., refrigerators), and RFID-based applications would securely interact among one another. At the moment our approach is just a conceptual idea, but it sheds light on very important security issues related to RFID-based applications that are beneficial for consumers.

  • IoT 산업이 발전하면서, 인간 생활의 3대 요소 중 주거환경 개선을 위한 많은 종류의 스마트 가전제품이 출시되었다. 그 중 스마트 냉장고는 소비자에게 많은 편리함을 제공한다. 하지만 기존에 출시되어져 있는 스마트 냉장고는 아직 스마트폰과 연동되어 다양한 제어를 하는 것이 개발 초기단계에 그쳐있다. 또한 비용적인 부분에서도 소비자가 부담을 느끼게 되므로 이미 출시는 되어있지만 소비자가 사용하기에 대중화되어 있지 않다. 그리고 사용자가 수동적인 제어가 상당부분 필요함으로 판단하여 일반 냉장고와 다를 것이 없다고 판단하였다. 또한 사용자가 장을 볼 때, 이미 구비되어 있는 물품인데도 불구하고 그것을 인식하지 못하여 같은 종류의 식품을 중복되어 구매하는 것이 다반사이다. 또한 음식의 유통기한도 기록하지 않아서 유통기한이 지난 음식을 섭취하고 식중독에 걸리는 일이 종종 발생한다. 이러한 식자재 관리에 대한 피해를 예방하기 위한 연구 과정에서 현대인이 대부분 스마트폰을 사용하고 있다는 사실을 고려하여 터치스크린을 통해 냉장고 안의 식자재를 관리함과 동시에 저장 및 기록할 수 있는 프로그램을 개발하고 추가로 스마트폰에도 동일한 어플리케이션을 개발하여 동시 제어가 가능하도록 설계하였다.

Application of an Electric Field Refrigeration System on Pork Loin during Dry Aging

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of an electric field refrigeration (EFR) on the quality characteristics of pork loin including dry aging loss, pH, water holding capacity (WHC), cooking loss, color, shear force, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), and microbial growth during dry aging (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 9 wk) in comparison with a commercial refrigerator (CR). Total plate counts (TPC) of the CR group approached 8.07 Log CFU/g at 2 wk of dry aging, thus indicating meat spoilage. Cooking loss, lightness, and shear force of EFR were significantly decreased (p<0.05) at subsequent aging weeks in both the EFR and CR. Aging loss, TPC, TBARS levels increased at subsequent aging weeks; however, pH values were not influenced by aging. At the same aging weeks (1 or 2 wk), the EFR group displayed significantly lower values (p<0.05) of aging loss, pH, TPC, and TBARS levels than the CR group. No significant differences in WHC, cooking loss, and shear force was observed until 2 wk of aging between the EFR and CR groups. The present results show that application of the EFR system improves the tenderness, color, and lipid oxidation stability of pork loin and extends its shelf life in comparison with a commercial refrigeration.

Refrigerator inventory management in mobile environment (모바일환경에서 냉장고 관리 프로그램)

  • 본 논문에서는 모바일환경을 활용하여 인터넷 접근이 어렵고 인터넷 사용이 불편한 사용자를 중심으로 개발한 일상생활에서의 냉장고 정리, 쾌척 등과 같이 냉장고 사용의 편리성을 위하여 안드로이드 5.1 버전의 스마트폰 Application으로 개발하였다. 이를 해결할 시스템을 구현하기 위해 GCM(Google Cloud Messaging) Server를 활용하였고, 서버에서 특정 시간이 도래되어 클라이언트로 메시지를 전송하면 사용자의 안드로이드 폰으로 푸시 메시지(Push Message)가 수신되는 방식으로 구현하였다. 안드로이드 환경을 기준으로 실행하기 위해 APACHE CORDOVA를 기반으로 CORDOVA PLUGIN에 있는 Camera 기능을 사용하였고 사용자 안드로이드에 있는 사진을 업로드하거나 즉석에서 사진을 촬영하여 앱에 올릴 수 있는 기능을 사용자 편의성을 고려하여 개선하였다. 사용자의 편리성, 가독성 등을 고려하여 개발함으로써 사용자는 활용성이 높은 사용자 인터페이스를 통해 냉장고를 정리하고 관리할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

Schmidt cycle analysis in the quest of designing stirling cryocooler

  • Design of Reverse Stirling Cycle based refrigerator can be predicted by Schmidt theory as a useful tool and by experiment it is found that for practical purposes the power and efficiency predicted by this analysis are about 35% of the actual values. Therefore, appropriate provision is to be made for getting the realistic result with the minimum deviation. The present paper first investigates the suitability of application of Schmidt design analysis for standard ZIF-1002 and PLN-106 Single cylinder Cryogenerator model. As the result is found to be optimistic, the same design procedure is applied for the design of a separate Cryogenerator for generating a cooling effect which is sufficient to produce 7 kg per hour liquid nitrogen using an indigenous condenser of 80% effectiveness. The paper describes all the details of the design methodologies and relevant results are found to be satisfactory.
