  • Analyzing electromagnetic properties in plasma medium, it is difficult to numerically solve electromagnetic problem with thin plasma. In this paper, subcell Maxwell-Boltzmann FDTD method was proposed which is combined with Maxwell-Boltzmann FDTD and subcell FDTD method for analyzing plasma and electrically thin materials, respectively. Calculations of reflection coefficient and absorption rate error were performed by using 1D FDTD method. Reflection coefficient computed by applying the proposed method is in agreement with analytic solution. Absorption rate error analyzed by employing the proposed method is 1/10 times less than one by using conventional method.

  • A numerical method to efficiently secure necessary design informations of the hydraulic characteristics of rubble mound breakwater was attempted here. The method combines the exterior wave field with the interior wave field which is formulated incorporating porous media flow inside the breakwaters. An approximate method based on the long wave assumption was used for the exterior wave field while a boundary element method was used for the interior wave field. A hydraulic experiment was also performed to verify the validity of the numerical analysis. The numerical results were compared with experimental data and results from existing formulae. They generally agreed in both reflection and transmission coefficients. The calculated pore pressures also showed a similar pattern with experimental data, even if they gave some significant differences in their values fur some cases. The main cause of such differences can be attributed to the strongly nonlinear wave field occurring on the frontal slope of the breakwater. The direct input of dynamic pressures(measured from hydraulic experiment) into the numerical method was suggested as a promising method to enhance the predictability of pore pressures.

  • In this paper we examine the reflection characteristics of dielectric microstrip lines with open-ended termination containing an optically induced plasma region, which are analyzed by the assumption that the plasma is distributed homogeneously in laser illumination. The characteristics impedances resulting from the presence of plasma are evaluated by the transmission line model. To estimate theoretically the characteristic response of identical systems in the time domain, the Fourier transformation method is evaluated. The reflection characteristics of time and frequency response in microwave systems have been calculated using an equivalent circuit model.

  • In this paper, the imdedance for each layer using triple cepstrum signal processing for reflected ultrasonic signal from the multilayer structure has been analyzed. The reflection coefficient can be obtained from the amplitude and the polarity of the peaks in the triple cepstrum, and then the impedance of each layer has been reconstructed by the reflection coefficient. In this experiment, four types of multilayers consisting of different metal layers were manufactured. The reflected signals from the multilayer structure have been detected by pulse-echo method. The impedances have been reconstructed by triple cepstrum technique. The experimental results have been in good agreement with the theoretical results.

  • In this paper, an adaptive beam tracing method with revised subdivision technique is proposed, in which the beam is generated by a set of three rays. According to reflection and/or refraction of the rays on the buildings and/or ground, additional rays are generated adaptively and the beam is subdivided efficiently and automatically. After generation of the set of beams, we transform the electromagnetic wave propagation data into volume data. Then one can visualize the data of propagation with reflection, refraction and interaction in full three dimensional space at any viewpoint by the so-called ray casting algorithm, which is one of the most useful methods in compute. graphics(CG).

  • Shock-wave focusing from a two-dimensional parabolic reflector was simulated using an explicit finite volume upwind TVD scheme. Computations were performed for three different incident shock speeds of $M_s$ = 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, corresponding to the relatively weak, intermediate, and strong shock waves, respectively. Numerical solutions nicely resolved all the waves evolving through the focusing process. As the incident shock strength increase, a transition was observed in the shock-fronts geometry that was caused by the change in the reflection type of converging shock fronts on the axis of symmetry, from regular-type to Mach-type reflection. The computed maximum on-axis pressure amplification and the trajectories of three-wave intersections showed good agreement with experimental results. The strong nonlinear effect near the focal region which determines the shock-fronts geometries at and behind the focus and at the same time confines the pressure amplification at the focus was clearly revealed from the present numerical simulation.

  • In recent years Jin-Beach and Hyeya River mouth have experienced severe erosion phenomena. The cause of erosion is examined using a 3-dimensional nunumerical sediment transport model. The model is composed of three components : wave model, wave-induced current model and 3-dimensional sediment transport model. In the wave analysis component we consider refraction, diffraction and reflection based on Maruyama and Kajima method. For the wave-induced current model we use depth-integrated continuty equation and momentum equations. For the 3-dimensional sediment transport model we consider bed load and suspended load simutaneously. Model results obtained for Jin-ha Beach and Hyeya River mouth agreed well with experimental results.

  • Two of fundamental approaches that can be used to understand ion-solid interaction are Monte Carlo (MC) and Molecular Dynamic (MD) simulations. For the simplicity of simulation Monte Carlo simulation method is widely preferred. In this paper, basic consideration and algorithm of Monte Carlo simulation will be presented as well as simulation results. Sputtering caused by incident ion beam will be discussed with distribution of sputtered particles and their energy distributions. Redeposition of sputtered particles that are experienced refraction at the substrate-vacuum interface additionally presented. In addition, reflection of incident ions with reflection coefficient will be presented together with spatial and energy distributions. This Monte Carlo simulation will be useful in simulating and describing ion beam related processes such as Ion beam induced deposition/etching process, local nano-scale distribution of focused ion beam implanted ions, and ion microscope imaging process etc.

  • In this paper, Power Flow Analysis(PFA) method has been applied to the prediction of vibration energy density and intensity of coupled shell structures in the medium-to-high frequency ranges. To consider the wave transformation at joint between shell elements, power transmission and reflection coefficients are investigated for various joint angles, and here Donnell-Mushtari thin shell theory has been used. For validations computations are performed to analyze the response of coupled shells by changing the excitation frequency and damping loss factor.

  • Recently, the authors have developed a new material test system fur thin film at the high temperature. It is so compact and precise with sub micron resolution that it seems to be a useful tool fur research of the oxide film growth, its mechanical behavior and failure mechanism. To this end. in this paper three methologies are described for in-situ monitoring of the displacement & strain and the temperature, the oxide thickness. These are the Laser Speckle analysis with digital image correlation technique, the two-color infra-red thermometer and the laser reflection interferometry respectively. The calibration results and some issues which should be addressed for practical application are presented.
