  • In the remote sensing researches, the reflected bright source such as snow, cloud have effects on the image quality of wanted signal. Even though those signal from bright source are adjusted in corresponding pixel level with atmospheric correction algorithm or radiometric correction, those can be problem to the nearby signal as one of the stray light source. Especially, in the step and stare observational method which makes one mosaic image with several snap shots, one of target area can affect next to the other snap shot each other. Presented in this paper focused on the stray light analysis from unwanted reflected bright source for geostationary ocean color sensor. The stray light effect for total 16 slot images each other were performed according to 8 band filters. For the realistic simulation, we constructed system modeling with integrated ray tracing technique which realizes the same space time in the remote sensing observation among the Sun, the Earth, and the satellite. Computed stray light effect in the results of paper demonstrates the distinguishable radiance value at the specific time and space.

  • When finite length signal is the input of QMF banks which are composed of the M-band orthogonal wavelet filter, the boundaries of reconstructed signal are not reconstructed perfectly. For boundary signals to be reconstructed perfectly, different type filters or methods are applied to them. In this paper, the design method of boundary filters which can be reconstructed the boundary signal perfectly was proposed, in case the dimension of M-band decomposed signal is the same as that of input signal. The boundary filters were designed using the perfect reconstruction condition of paraunitary matrix. In an application of subband coding of still image, the proposed boundary filters achieve better PSNR about 5% in reconstructed image than reflected method at the same bit rate.

  • This paper proposes an advanced detection technique for cable fault by eliminating the sign of reference signal in STDR(sequence time-domain reflectometry) and SSTDR(spread-spectrum time-domain reflectometry). The proposed fault-detection technique can eliminate the reference signal more effectively than the conventional one since the sign detector can approximately recover the distorted reference signal by cable and connector, and consequently, can detect the reflected signal by fault more effectively than the conventional one. Especially, it is shown that the error rate of proposed technique can be significantly lower than the conventional one in the case of far fault simulation.

  • In this paper, we present a bitwise metric generating function for a binary reflected Gray coded (BRGC) M-PSK signal by means of coordinate rotation. Using the properties of the BRGC mapping, we minimize the number of coordinate rotations. The proposed function does not rely on channel state information (CSI), and provides low implementing complexity.

  • An optical method for surface roughness estimation based on statistical analysis of the light intensity of a scattered laser beam pattern. The method is very simple but has a disadvantage that no more information than the averaged roughness is estimated. In this study a new try was conducted to derive more advanced surface information from the details of the light intensity distribution. Some periodic ripples among the light intensity distribution being assumed to relate with scratch left on the machined surface, a corresponding surface profile is estimated from the ripples using FFT and IFFT algorithm. IFFT technique is used to extract some dominant signal components among the intensity distribution. Compared to the measured profiles by a stylus type surf-tester, the profiles obtained through the proposed method are probably acceptable in a sense of the profile shape. Calibration of the amplitude needs more works in the future.

  • A method using beamforming algorithm has been developed to measure oblique incidence reflection coefficients of sound absorption materials. MUSIC(Multiple Signal Classification) method detects the angles of incidence and reflection. By separating the incident and reflected waves using beamforming method, the reflection coefficient is calculated. Spatial smoothing technique is also used to reduce the coherence between the incident and reflected waves. The test materials were modeled as a locally reacting surface. Numerical and experiment results are performed to verify the acuracy of proposed method.

  • In The AV system, to produce a realistic sound effect is very difficult because the distance between stereo speakers is very narrow. Many signal processing method of widening the sound image for spatial impression have been studied. Most of the typical methods of widening the sound image are related to the phase shifting. but this method was not effective in the concrete wall structure with high reflectivity. In this paper, we proposed an effective method of extending stereo sound image using Precedence Effect and reflected sound. In experiments we confirmed the usefulness of the method for extending stereo sound image of a conventional AV system in wider listening area of a room.

  • The FBG sensors are inserted on the liners of the filament wound pressure tanks. The strains near the welding region of the liners are monitored in the hydro-pressurizing tests. The hydro-pressurizing tests consist of the proof tests at 4500 or 3300 psi and repeated test at the operating pressure, 3000 psi. The FBG sensors work well under $3000\mu\varepsilon$, but the strains calculated from the reflected signals are instable at the high strain level. The transverse compression on the sensor head results in the split of the reflected peaks, and the calculating algorism from the split peaks is not robust under the various signal condition. The FBG sensors fracture near $7500\mu\varepsilon$ level and lose their function permanently.

  • One of the most important issues in the wearable healthcare sensors is to minimize the motion artifacts in the vital signals for continuous monitoring. This paper presents a reflected type photoplethysmograph (PPG) sensor for monitoring heart rates at the artery of the wrist. Active noise cancellation algorithm was applied to compensate the distorted signals by motions with Least Mean Square (LMS) adaptive filter algorithms, using acceleration signals from a MEMS accelerometer. Experiments with a watch type PPG sensor were performed to validate the proposed algorithm during typical daily motions such as walking and running. The developed sensor is suitable for ubiquitous healthcare system and monitoring vital arterial signals during surgery.

  • Ultrasonic attenuation is an important parameter in Quantitative Ultrasound and many algorithms have been proposed to improve estimation accuracy and repeatability for multiple independent estimates. In this work, we propose an improved algorithm for estimating ultrasonic attenuation utilizing the optimal frequency compounding technique based on stochastic noise model. We formulate mathematical compounding equations in the AWGN channel model and solve optimization problems to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio for multiple frequency components. Individual estimates are calculated by the reference phantom method which provides very stable results in uniformly attenuating regions. We also propose the guideline to select frequency ranges of reflected RF signals. Simulation results using numerical phantoms show that the proposed optimal frequency compounding method provides improved accuracy while minimizing estimation bias. The estimation variance is reduced by only 16% for the un-compounding case, whereas it is reduced by 68% for the uniformly compounding case. The frequency range corresponding to the half-power for reflected signals also provides robust and efficient estimation performance.
