This study analyzes especially drag and lift models recently developed for fluid-solid, fluid-fluid or liquid-liquid two-phase flows to understand their applicability on the computational fluid dynamics, CFD modeling of pulsatile blood flow. Virtual mass effect and the effect of red blood cells, RBCs aggregation on CFD modeling of blood flow are also shortly reviewed to recognize future tendencies in this field. Recent studies on two-phase flows are found as very useful to develop more powerful drag-lift models that reflect the effects of blood cell's shape, deformation, concentration, and aggregation.

In this paper, we demonstrate the more accurate confidence intervals for median survival time under the simple proportional hazard model of Koziol and Green (1976) via the Edgeworth expansion for the distribution of the studentized ACL estimator derived in Jeong (2000). The numerical results show that the intervals, so-called test-based and reflect intervals (Slud et al., 1984), outperform normal approximating method in the small sample sizes and/or heavy censoring.

Zellner(1994) introduced the notion of a balanced loss function in the context of a general liner model to reflect both goodness of fit and precision of estimation. We study the perspective of unifying a variety of results both frequentist and Bayesian from Poisson distributions. We show that frequentist and Bayesian results for balanced loss follow from and also imply related results for quadratic loss functions reflecting only precision of estimation. Several examples are given for Poisson distribution.

Slope sedimentation on the modern west Florida continental margin is controlled by pelagic carbonate accumulation and off-shelf sedimentation of neritic carbonates and terrigenous fines. Production and deposition of pelagic carbonates by planktonic foraminifera and coccoliths have played a significant role in the total slope sedimentation and are mainly promoted by sea-surface productivity. Organic carbon data reflect the relatively high biological productivity in surface waters, indicating high accumulation of biogenic calcareous sediments. The surface-water productivity in the study area is supported by the relation among microfossil assemblages, carbonate mineralogy and sedimentary organic carbon.

Water regulators in New Zealand have recognised the need to adapt water allocation regimes and water permit conditions to reflect the likelihood of lower catchment yield on the east coast from 2030 due to climate change. Water management mechanisms to protect the environment and maintain the reliability of other water users are currently being applied or assessed in Marlborough province. These include seasonal water quota based on spring aquifer status, linking water use to environmental triggers to avoid seawater intrusion or spring depletion; and redefining water permit entitlements to account for recharge variability.

Black-Scholes equation arising from option pricing in the presence of cost in trading the underlying asset is derived. The transaction cost is chosen precisely and generalized to reflect the trade in the real world. Furthermore the concept of the bandwidth is introduced to obtain the better rehedging. The model with bandwidth derived in this paper can be used to calculate the more accurate option price numerically even if it is nonlinear and more complicated than the models shown before.

The four-terminal transmission matrix method has been widely used to estimate the insertion-loss. However, the predictins using the equations in the four-terminal transmission matrix method do not reflect a practical phenomenon accurately, In this paper, the correction method to derive the insertion-loss for a constant sound pressure source is presented. The method of correction to the four-terminal transmission matrix method was proposed by rewriting the real and imaginary parts as they depend solely on the flow velocity. Then the result was compensated for by adding the component of the temperature gradient.

We have studied magnetostructural phase transitions in the perovskite-type layered structure compound (C18H37NH3)2 MnCl4 by means of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) measurements. Distinct slopes were observed in the linear temperature dependences of the Mn++ EPR linewidth in the low and high temperature phases. Besides, linewidth anomalies at the transition temperatures sensitively reflect the magnetic changes arising from the MnCl6 octahedra.
