  • In distributed arithmetic-based architecture for an inner product between two length-N vectors, the size of the ROM increases exponentially with N. Moreover, the ROMs are generally the bottleneck of speed, especially when their size is large. In this paper, a ROM size reduction technique for DA( distributed arithmetic ) is proposed. The proposed method is based on modified OBC( offset binary coding) and control circuit reduction technique. by simulations, it is shown that the use of the proposed technique can result in reduction in the number of gates up to 50%.

  • Since the dimensions of MEMS gyroscope are very small compared to those of conventional gyroscope, MEMS gyroscope should be able to measure charge of pico-coulomb caused by very small change of electrodes gap. However, feed-through signal from driving electrodes to the sensing electrodes due to the electromagnetic coupling is much greater than the sensing signal, which degrades the sensitivity of MEMS gyroscope. This paper introduces the feed-through noise canceling technique using dummy port and confirms the feasibility of feed-through noise canceling experimentally. Experimental results shows that, when driving signal is 6 Vpp, 30 kHz, feed-through signal of vacuum packaged Si Gyroscope decreases from -53.2 dBm to -77.1 dBm by using feed-through reduction technique. Q-factor that could not be measured without noise reduction is measured to be about 2500 and resonance frequency to be 7.018 kHz.

  • In this paper, a new technique to reduce the phase noise in microwave oscillators is proposed using the resonant characteristics of the Photonic Bandgap(PBG). Microstrip line resonator has the low Q(Qaulity factor). Therefore, as PBG structure was applied, we examined that the phase noise of the oscillator has been reduced.

  • With the advent of fast power devices, the high dv/dt voltage produced by PWM inverts have been found to cause EMI noise, shaft voltage and bearing current. This paper describes the application of newly developed Conducted EMI reduction SVPWM technique in induction motor drives. The newly developed common mode voltage reduction SVPWM technique don't use any zero-vector states for inverter control, hence it can restrict the common mode voltage more than conventional PWM technique. The validity of the proposed technique by software approach is verified through simulation and experimental results.

  • In spite of many advantages of OFDM, a major drawback for implementation is a non-linear distortion in the HPA due to a high PAPR problem. In this paper, the Complementary Clipping Transform technique (CCT) for the PAPR reduction of OFDM system is analyzed for the QPSK and QAM mapping data. BER performance and PSD in front of HPA and after HPA are analytically demonstrated.

  • Some well known order reduction methods are briefly described and a nev order reduction technique is introduced. A comparison of the various classes of order reduction approaches are indicated. Furthermore, the question is raised how order reduction should be executed with respect to controller design. Finally, by means of an example, results of the discussed approaches are compared.

  • As the large amount of data can be efficiently stored, the methods extracting meaningful features from big data has become important. Especially, the techniques of converting high- to low-dimensional data are crucial for the 'Data visualization'. In this study, principal component analysis (PCA; linear dimensionality reduction technique) and Isomap (non-linear dimensionality reduction technique) are introduced and applied to neural big data obtained by the functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). First, we investigate how much the physical properties of stimuli are maintained after the dimensionality reduction processes. We moreover compared the amount of residual variance to quantitatively compare the amount of information that was not explained. As result, the dimensionality reduction using Isomap contains more information than the principal component analysis. Our results demonstrate that it is necessary to consider not only linear but also nonlinear characteristics in the big data analysis.

  • This paper describes a tomographic imaging technique for evaluating the thickness reduction of a plate-like structure using a noncontact sensor network based on an electromagnetic acoustic transducer that generates shear horizontal plate waves. Because this technique is based on the effect of mode cutoff and time of flight of guided waves caused by a change in thickness, the tomographic image provides information on the presence of defects in the structure. To verify the performance of the method, artificial defects with various thickness reduction ratios were machined in an aluminum plate, and the tomographic imaging results are reported. The results show that the generated tomographic image displays the thickness reductions and can identify their locations. Therefore, the proposed technique has good potential as a tool for health monitoring of the integrity of plate-like structures.

  • This paper presents measurement error reduction technique of touch and step voltage of grounding system based on numerical analysis. When measuring touch and step voltage of grounding system, auxiliary current probes should be located at suitable places. However, the auxiliary probes can not be located at suitable places in such cases as there are buildings and pavements. Therefore, in this paper, we provided measurement error reduction technique of touch and step voltage of grounding system according to the positions of auxiliary probes and angle between auxiliary probes. Also, measurement error analyses of touch and step voltage of grounding system have been conducted using more than one current probe. Based on these analyses, recommended positions of auxiliary probes within allowable measurement errors were presented.

  • A more applicable optimization model for extracting flutter derivatives of bridge decks is presented, which is suitable for time-varying weights for fitting errors and different lengths of vertical bending and torsional free vibration data. A stochastic search technique for searching the optimal solution of optimization problem is developed, which is more convenient in understanding and programming than the alternate iteration technique, and testified to be a valid and efficient method using two numerical examples. On the basis of the section model test of Sutong Bridge deck, the flutter derivatives are extracted by the stochastic search technique, and compared with the identification results using the modified least-square method. The Empirical Mode Decomposition method is employed to eliminate noise, trends and zero excursion of the collected free vibration data of vertical bending and torsional motion, by which the identification precision of flutter derivatives is improved.
